Speculation: Is this a precursor to a Peavy Deal?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 09:59 AM) Peavy, 27, will make $8 million in 2009, $15 million in 2010, $16 million in 2011 and $17 million in 2012, and he has a 2013 option for $22 million, with a $4 million buyout. Peavy's 2007 Cy Young award raises his 2009 salary to $11M. From '09 through '12 Peavy is guaranteed $15.75M per season, this is the 4th highest annual average value for a pitcher on a multi-year deal in the history of the game. Include his $4M buyout and that's $16.75M. Given the amount of talent and money it would take to acquire and keep him, I think it would be borderline irresponsible of the White Sox to acquire him. If that elbow becomes an issue or he never adjusts to the new league/park it could cripple the organization.

Cabrera offered arbitration
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 04:34 PM) If Uribe doesn't accept arbitration last year who plays third? That's no what happened with Uribe. The team held a $5M team option on Juan for the '08 season, the option was declined and Uribe was re-signed at a lesser price ($4.5M).

Cabrera offered arbitration
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) You do not lose your #1 pick if it is within the top 15. If you're sitting at #16 and you sign a type A FA, you lose your pick. Basically, go Diamondbacks, you know you want Cabrera. That Drew guy you have at SS isn't worth anything. One question...the Mariners have an extra pick at #22 next year because they didn't sign their #1 guy last year. Anyone know what happens if they sign a type A guy? That 22nd pick is their's no matter what, you can't lose that kind of draft pick as compensation for signing a type A free agent.

Dye to Reds Speculation
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 12:44 AM) That sucks. I've only seen video on the guy. I guess I'd just put faith in the Sox staff. He'd have to take a full physical to come here so I'm sure if there was anything all that major it would pop up - I can't imagine the Sox letting this go through without getting a look at everything they possibly can. Then again, I still wonder how in the world we were able to send Freddy to the Phils after '06 with a physical. I'd have my worries too, but he's one of those guys that if he can keep his FB in the mid-90's and find that curveball again, he could help us a whole lot for the next 6-7 years. Freddy Garcia never took a physical.

Vazquez & Logan Dealt to Braves
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 12:01 AM) Javy and Boone truly suck, but as far as what we got in return. Let's see. I can't imagine we acquired very good prospects. Traditionally the Braves have been a smart organization. Javy is trash and so is Boone. Well in the past 2 years they've given away Max Ramirez and Willy Aybar for Bob Wickman and Jeff Ridgway.

Vazquez & Logan Dealt to Braves
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 11:45 PM) Roberts and Daniel Cabrera are attainable much more easily. I think Roberts is a great one year fit until Beckham is ready. The rest of the options are meh..... How about Roberts and Furcal with Ramirez in CF or at 3B with Anderson in CF. I'd say there's about a 60% chance Daniel Cabrera is non-tendered next Friday. I think they've reached the point with Cabrera that they'd rather just let him walk than pay him the ~$3.2M it would take to retain him in his final year of arbitration.

Vazquez & Logan Dealt to Braves
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:49 PM) I think he signs for 2 years 18 mil with an option. Well if he somehow goes for 2 year's, $9M per then I hope it's with the Sox.

Vazquez & Logan Dealt to Braves
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 10:36 PM) Well, no dout Abreu's a better defender....and moving Dye and having Quentin and Abreu on the corners would make more sense from a defensive standpoint. I just don't think Abreu's numbers over the last couple of seasons and his age justify a big investment, and I do think he will get at least a 3 year commitment from some team out there, not sure which, but it will probably happen. Abreu has gone from being one of the better corner defenders in the game to one of the worst the last few years, he's awful.

Vazquez & Logan Dealt to Braves
Bobby Abreu is no where near a $16M-$18M player. He's looking at 3 years, $13M and that's probably tops. Problem is he's a joke in the field and isn't exactly what you're looking for in a DH (probably a ~.800 OPS and no speed once 2010 rolls around) especially at 36 years old.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 08:04 PM) Is this the 1st KW deal that was reported and went through? It's actually like number 5 or 6 in the last 3 or 4 years.

Vazquez & Logan Dealt to Braves
QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:08 PM) Why would we trade Dye and then sign Dunn? Unless we were doing it for the spects, that's pretty much a similar player. Dunn is 6 years younger than Jermaine, Dye is only signed for 1 more year and the Sox are going to need a DH in 2010. Makes sense to me.
-
Vazquez & Logan Dealt to Braves
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:06 PM) Dunn's not a bad athlete, but he is a horrible OF. I think KW will stay away from him because he is the all or nothing type. Unless he can unload one or two of his current all or nothing types. A year of Dunn in LF followed by 3 or 4 at DH would be ideal, this is assuming of course that Dye is traded.

Vazquez & Logan Dealt to Braves
Flowers in the AFL: 75 AB, 12 HR, .387/.460/.973/1.433 He led the AFL in HR, hitting 33% more than the next guy. Oh and he led the AFL in OPS by 210 points.

Cabrera offered arbitration
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 02:52 PM) The one thing that could drive our pick down is if the team signing Cabrera also signed another type A free agent who was more valuable than Cabrera. Then the other team that lost its player would get the top pick from the signing team, and we'd wind up lower down. For example, if the Nationals decided to sign both Teixeira and OC, we'd probably wind up with their 3rd round pick. The number of type A guys not being offered arbitration decreases the chances of that happening by a lot though. I believe it goes in order of signing, not value. If the Nationals sign Cabrera on Dec. 15th and Tex on Dec. 30th the Sox would get Washington's 2nd round pick and the Angels would get their 3rd.

CONGRATULATIONS Mr. and Mrs. Quentin!
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 1, 2008 -> 06:34 PM) Not to crap on this joyous occasion, but I'm about to. I thought this was real news when I opened Soxtalk. Damn it. If someone posted a thread entitled "CONGRATULATIONS" and it contained any real news, the title would be changed within 10 minutes of it being posted. When Cabrera is officially offered arbitration sometime in the next 5 hours the title of the thread will say so.

Ryan Wing going to Japan
When an American ballplayer is traded to a Japanese team it's because that player wants to play in Japan and has asked his major league team for a release/trade to a Japanese team. If he's under contract in America he can't just jump on a plane and start playing for the Ham Fighters, he first needs to be let out of that contract either through release or trade.

Dye to Reds Speculation
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 28, 2008 -> 10:44 PM) Why would the Sox offer him arbitration? He makes way too much money. He'd be more expensive than Dye in all probability. And if there really is no serious negotiation taking place, why would he agree to turn down the arbitration making himself a little less desirable to other teams because they would have to surrender a draft choice? I wouldn't be shocked if the Sox traded Dye, that Griffey would return, very cheaply. But arbitration, no way. Griffey is a Type B free agent and teams don't have to surrender draft picks when they sign type B's. I do agree with you, there's a less than 0% chance the Sox offer Griffey arbitration unless they know for a fact that he'd decline for whatever reason. He's probably worth about half of the $12M he'd make in arbitration, not worth the risk for some pick in the 40's.

Dye to Reds Speculation
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 09:59 PM) Kalapse, I eagerly look forward to your posts on this site, but let's not turn this into a PhD dissertation. We all understand what mlbtraderumors is, and even for those who don't, it's not like the "real" sources you are referring to are anything more than purposefully misleading leaks, absolute speculation, and/or old news that got distorted as it traveled down the grapevine. The bottom line is that other than perhaps Ken Rosenthal, there simply are no credible sources when it comes to hot stove rumors. Sure, a link to the info posted is always preferred. A link to mlbtraderumors, which is a warehouse of rumors which also contains links to other sources, seems perfectly acceptable considering the currency in which we are dealing. Is it really too much to ask for people to name the original source and provide a link? One thing that has become a problem on here is the posting of material from another site without the inclusion of a link which is actually illegal but that's just a part of it. If you see something interesting on MLB Trade rumors or rotoworld or wherever just follow the link they provide, copy the address and include it in your post, it's not hard. This way people (well, I) won't have to scour some rumor site looking for a small blurb from some Dominican newspaper. Plus, and I think this may be the key, there won't be anything lost in translation like there has been so many times before.

Dye to Reds Speculation
People, mlbtraderumors.com is not a source. They have no original news on the site just a nice collection of links to real news outlets, if you're going to post rumors please include the actual source and a link to that source. And ALWAYS include a link especially if you're going to copy and paste information off another site. This is the original source: http://www.thelotd.com/lance/blog/2008/11/24/tuesday And this is the original story:

Edgar Renteria HAS Signed with San Francisco
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 05:03 AM) ' So the former club (in this case the Tigers) can't simply offer arbitration after the new contract has already been signed but before December 1st and get the picks anyway? "6:00pm: Additional denials have come in via Andrew Baggarly and Derrick Goold. Baggarly says Renteria is the Giants' fallback for Furcal. He notes that the Tigers would've loved to see Renteria sign today, as they're unlikely to offer him arbitration. Goold learned that Meister (Renteria's agent) will double back with the Cardinals before Renteria signs elsewhere." mlbtraderumors.com If a type A/B free agent signs before Dec. 1st then his former club gets the comp picks even if they have yet to offer arb.

ESPN radio reporting Mets/White Sox talks heating up...
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 04:00 AM) Just the part in the blurb about the Sox looking for a SS prospect and starting pitcher (young). With the Rays, that means Brignac...Edwin Jackson/Davis/Niemann. KW, I'm sure, wouldn't settle for Niemann or Neimann or whatever his name is... Assuming you're talking about Rosenthal's column (I don't know to what else you could be referring), he didn't mention anything about the Sox seeking a shortstop prospect. He merely mentioned "a young starting pitcher plus additional players". Nothing about a shortstop. here's exactly what he wrote:
