  1. QUOTE(knightni @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 03:44 PM) Well... That worked well. Guess we shoulda taken Edwards eh? QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 03:45 PM) Ronnie Brown would have been a good pick too. Too bad both of those guys were taken before Benson. Carnell Williams, Troy Williamson and Mike Williams are the only RB/WR taken after Benson in the top 20 picks of that draft.
  2. The Sox are going to have a s*** load of money to spend by 2010 when Cabrera is ready to cash in. He'll only be 27 years old and I definitely think the Sox would be willing to pay him what he's worth.
  3. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 03:04 PM) 4.23 ERA at the Cell = 1.65 at Petco and in the NL. Jon Garland is a much better pitcher at the Cell than he is on the road. So it's not like USCF is inflating his ERA.
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) Not really. PODS was an injury risk, Uribe hasnt nearly missed as much time as PODS has. In Uribe we know we have a 150-160 game player at SS playing a a high level defensively. That is almost the opposite of PODS. Like I said, the situations aren't really comparable.
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 02:51 PM) Do you really think we burned Aaron Cunningham for a future backup/utility guy. The reason Iguchi was moved was to check him out. He will get every opportunity to start next year, maybe with a platoon mate. Ozuna already looks like a good platoon mate for Richar to alternate against tough lefties. Lets also give the kid more than a half of a season before we get the pitchforks out. You realize that we are not the yankees and we need to use some cheap options here and there to help with the mega millions club members on the team. Even the Yankees have Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano.
  6. He's been the best combination of injured/terrible in baseball over the past two seasons. 2006/2007: 18 starts, 7-13, 5.90 ERA, 1.56 WHIP all while being 80 pounds over weight, tearing his rotator cuff and missing 2 months of the '07 season with severe elbow irritation.
  7. Heh . . . QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 11:49 AM) I'd wait for the offseason to be over to make this type of statement. Still possible [uribe] gets traded and we bring in a good [sS]. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) what better alternatives are/were out there? kw could just be doing this for insurence incase he cant get someone else.... QUOTE(aboz56 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) I'm not surprised at this after seeing what [Vizquel] got. KW doesn't want to be left with no options [at SS] come spring if he can't swing a deal at the winter meetings. QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) Correct - [Eckstein] had a better '06 season, but why anyone would rather have him on a 3 year deal is beyond me. [uribe] has 1 year to prove himself or he's gone. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) This means absolutely zero about whether or not [uribe] is [at SS] come Opening Day. The chances of that happening have not changed. Its still maybe. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 12:11 PM) People, people...just because he signed doesn't mean he's our starting [sS] next year . . . He's very limited, but he's going to be playing for a contract again . . . I'm not saying the two situations are necessarily comparable but it is pretty funny that I can so easily plug Uribe's name into some of the posts from the Pods Signs thread from Dec. 1st of '06.
  8. QUOTE(thomsonmi @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) The Score and Fox Sports also confirming. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7418304 $4.5 million for one year. We did actually decline and renegotiate, saving $500,000. Where did you see the $4.5M number? It wasn't in the Rosenthal article.
  9. Well if they declined the option then they'd have to pay him his $300K buyout so they saved $200K if this is true.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 10:50 AM) From 2004 to 2007 HRs 34-26-24-18 SLG .534-.515-.498-.442 OPS+ 131-128-126-109 I'd call that a trend. 2004 was a peak, if you look at it the few years previous were nothing close to '04. His numbers from '02 are almost identical to '06 while '01 and '03 are pretty damn similar to '07. That looks a whole lot more like an inconsistent hitter than a red flag for steroids. Since 2000: 111, 109, 128, 111, 131, 128, 126, 109 There's no consistency to these numbers, '05 and '06 were two of the best seasons of his career. If his '08 season is anything like his '07 then yeah there's probably something very wrong with him but as of right now there's no real pattern of decline.
  11. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 10:00 AM) .363 /.350 /.356 OBP in the last 3 years. OBP is a more important skill than AVG. The Sox can afford his low SLG if he gets on base enough for the boppers. A .350 OBP isn't the be-all, end-all of OBP, but it's a lot better than that put up by Owens/Podsednik/Erstad last year. And his SLG isn't that lower than Uribe's slugging, even with Uribe's 20 dingers. The question is whether he can play 150 games per season and whether he will decline over the next 2-3 years the Sox sign him for. He's a rip off at $15 million per year, but he's pretty good at $6-7 million. Also keep in mind the division in which he was putting up those numbers, the worst in the game. His last 2 years in the American league were less than impressive and a .350 OBP only means so much when you can't do ANYTHING else. He doesn't even steal bases. If the Sox do sign Eckstein they better have a good backup plan because he's starting to hit the DL for large chunks of games at a time. He missed about 40 games in '06 and about 2 full months last year. Watching Andy Gonzalez man SS for all of June and July is going to be unbearable.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2007 -> 09:47 AM) Good for Kenny for staying away from Tejada. He is in such a decline, and it is probably due to the drug testing from the sounds of it. Shouldn't a decline encompass more than 1 season?
  13. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 08:18 PM) Definately "cheap" isn't the word I should've used. "Cheaper" is what should've been plugged in there. He is coming off his worst year and has injuries all over the place. Everything I have seen as far as Pirates news indicates they may look to deal him. So the "no reason to trade their best player" is definately being considered. And I think poor performance (worst career year), injury (both knees), age (29 or 30)are some reasons to deal a guy like Bay. Also after next season, he has one year left. The pirates know they aren't going to keep him so why take the risk of letting his stock further drop? They will most likely deal him at the deadline next season anyways? If they are truly looking to move him, I think it will cost us but not to the extent that it may have one year ago. I'd say he could be had for a couple good prospects or a good proven MLB arm. Maybe someone to take Morris's contract even? It's all in the eyes of their ballclub. Sure he is cheap for us, but for a team like Pittsburg and how they run things...not so much. They've got to make moves and if moving Bay can bring in somethings to help out in a couple years when all that talent they have brewing gets up to the majors then why not? I never said that. I'm sure they will trade him sometime in the next year and a half. What I said was he will not be traded for anything less than a very good crop of players not just "good prospects" or a single "proven MLB arm" he'll be dealt for a young major league ready starting pitcher and another B+/A- prospect. He's put up a .900 OPS or better for the past 4 years or so, one down year from a guy in his late 20's is not going to make the Pirates deal him away for anything the Sox are offering.
  14. Say goodbye to ever single prospect in the system and even then I'm not sure we could put together a good enough package. The Sox just have no real impact prospects at the upper levels and without the inclusion of a Hanley Ramirez type of prospect, I doubt the Marlins would bite.
  15. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 05:58 PM) He's not going to cost that much and he's certainly not going to require a lot of years. No he's not the best player in the world but he's not the worst either. I know a lot of people around here dismiss batting average but at least he can hit the damn ball. At this point, I just want to have some players who can plug some holes, make contact, just have the chance to get on base. Also(this is where most disagree with me), I really don't think he's a bad defensive player, imo he's about average. Hell, I might be the only one but I really wouldn't mind Eck on this team. A player with an arm as weak as Eckstein's is not capable of being an above average defender at short. If you can't make the set throw from deep in the hole then you're nothing more than an average defender, assuming of course he can do everything else well. (which I don't think he can) He's a poor defender who's body is beginning to fall apart on him, he's going to get at least 3 years and $6M-$8M a year.
  16. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 05:34 PM) Who's he beating out? Kotchman? Minkalphabitz? Gload? Carlos Pena
  17. QUOTE(Chombi and the Fungi @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 05:19 PM) Next to nothing sounds good for Wilson. I think Bay can be acquired for cheap too. Maybe target both anyone? Greene I would assume would be replaced (if dealt) by a move via FA. Dealing Greene a coupel years ago maybe made sense b/c they had such high hopes for Bush but that has clearly failed. I thought they took some kid this year or last year in the first round to play SS. Maybe it was sandwich or 2nd round. Either way, he won't be ready for a couple years so unless they are willing to take a couple year deal with someone in FA then there is little chance I think that they move Greene. Bay is the face of that franchise, their only real good player (though he was pretty bad last year) and under contract at a very reasonable price for the next 2 years, he's not going be "cheap" as a matter of fact he'll be pretty "expensive" IMO. There's no reason I can think of for them to trade away their best player for a less than impressive package.
  18. PNC plays pretty close to neutral with a bit of an advantage to pitchers (the left center field power ally is very deep which means more doubles but less HR.) If anything Wilson's numbers would decrease with a move to the Cell. He doesn't have much home run power so moving to the smaller ballpark is only going to take away his doubles in the gaps and balls that may land in front of the CF at PNC are caught at USCF.
  19. American League: Torii Hunter (7), Ichiro Suzuki (7), Grady Sizemore (1) Adrian Beltre (1), Orlando Cabrera (1), Placido Polanco (1), Kevin Youkliss (1) Ivan Rodriguez (13), Johan Santana (1) National League: Andruw Jones (10), Carlos Beltran (2), TIE: Aaron Rowand (1), Jeff Francouer (1) David Wright (1), Jimmy Rollins (1), Orlando Hudson (3), Derek Lee (3) Russell Martin (1), Greg Maddux (17) Jeter's reign of terror is over, GRINDER GOD wins his first, Beltre is finally awarded for his defensive prowess, Greg Maddux rules the world and Torii Hunter and Andruw Jones continue to win on reputation alone.

I haven't seen the movie yet or anything but would anyone agree with me that just based on the trailers alone "Bee Movie" looks terrible? I've actually enjoyed some of the animated family movies that have been made of late including "Ratatouille" and "The Incredibles" but this one just looks bad. Seinfeld's voice isn't really fit for voice over work, the animation looks rather shoddy and I'm not so sure how many more bug jokes can be made after "A Bug's Life" and "Antz" Seinfeld has been promoting the s*** out of this thing, you couldn't go anywhere for about a month there without seeing his face.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 03:06 PM) Nine out of every ten reviews for it have been positive, damn positive I've seen the same.
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 6, 2007 -> 02:35 PM) Well we should know something soon... Today is the deadline. Anyone know what the exact time of the deadline is? Tomorrow night is the deadline.
