Mariners Looking at Dye; Sox Looking at Otsuka
Kalapse replied to CWSGuy406's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) Joe's still an IF, and the numbers for Infielders don't have to be dominant. Joe could put up numbers somewhere between his 05 and 06 campaigns and probably at least earn B level compensation next year (and some times, in the case of injuries, I'm convinced that MLB does look at the previous healthy year when deciding how to slot people. See: Eric Gagne, going as an A level FA) MLB doesn't slot the players, it's the Elias Sports Bureau and their computers of judgment. -
Yes, worse than Uribe. He's putting up a .243/.293/.294/.587 line in the National League compared to Uribe's .218/.273/.333/.606 in the American League. Omar has a grand total of 12 extra base hits, his legs are beginning to leave him and his defense is starting to slip. He'll be 41 years old next year and he's having one of the most pathetic seasons you're ever going to see from a possible hall of famer. There's really no reason for him to play next year.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 11:12 AM) If the Sox can't trade him at the deadline...wouldn't it make sense to keep him and get the draft pick(s)? It's one year of Fields in LF. Many players have played other positions for a year or more (Chipper Jones, Craig Biggio, Miguel Cabrera) only to get moved back. Personally, I think Fields is in LF next year. Sweeney is in RF and it's open in CF. Crede played 47 games this year and put up a .575 OPS, unless he's insanely productive next season the Sox won't be getting any sort of compensation picks for him. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 26, 2007 -> 11:14 AM) I still think Iguchi will draw at least B level compensation at 2nd base. They do organize those things by position and look across 2 years, and IMO, there's not going to be a lot of 2nd baseman on the market better than Tad. Here's the list of infielders from last year organized by FA level: And the one thing I still think the Sox need to do is move a pitcher. Somehow. If for no other reason than to free up the $10 million and give Gavin Floyd 2 more months to try to adapt to the big leagues. From what I understand Iguchi can not be offered arbitration (clause in his contract so he can become a free agent after 3 years). And if they can't offer him ARB, they can't get any compensation.

Vizquel has been one of the worst players in baseball this season, possibly the worst. I imagine he'll retire after this season rather than embarrass himself again next year.

Usually when Japanese players come over they have a clause included in their contract that makes them a free agent once the original deal runs out, the team can not offer them arbitration. -
I know there's a lot of people on here who enjoy Christian Bale's work, as I am definitely one of them. There's one movie that always seems to get over looked for some reason, Equilibrium. It's just a damn good action movie with some outstanding acting spliced in. I always found it to be more enjoyable than the Matrix due to there being some real acting going on in Equilibrium.

If he signs with the Rangers or Orioles the Sox would receive a sandwich (~30-50) and 2nd round pick (~50-70 [depending on how many sandwich pick there are]), there's top 15 protection.

QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) Kenny "TAR" Rogers hasn't been the same this year. What is he, 47 years old? We're going to rock that sucker tonight! i know it sounds crazy but contreras usually does well against the tigers. it's almost like how bobby jenks OWNS the tiggers. Jose has allowed 12 earned runs over his last 12 IP vs the Tigers.

QUOTE(Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 02:41 PM) When is the last time we scored a run off Rogers? 22 2/3 innings

Colon to DL-How about the Angels
Kalapse replied to klaus kinski's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Colon wasn't even close to the AL's best pitcher in 2005. What a joke that was. -
QUOTE(DonnyDevito @ Jul 25, 2007 -> 11:54 AM) Then how did we get him? He grew up in Peoria.
-
The only reason I watch is to see Jim "choke breath" Thome fail in every clutch situation because he's overpaid and his face is stupid.
-
If Contreras is dealt I hope Floyd is giving the 5th starter's role for the rest of the season, completely uninterrupted. The Sox aren't going anywhere anyway. If he's terrible for the final 2 months of the season I'd probably be done with him.

The fuse was lit during the Orioles series following the break, 6-8 record since then. HIZZAH!

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 10:34 PM) .597, anyone got any stats on where that ranks in terms of OPS of a starter in the passed few years? Has to be near the cellar. Probably bottom 10 or so. Of players with atleast 250 PA this season Uribe's .597 OPS is the 7th worst. nick punto, adam everett, omar vizquel, adam kennedy, jason kendall and dioner navarro are all below him. -

23 of Jim Thome's 42 HR last season came when the Sox were within 2 runs of the opponent. 27 within 3 R, 34 within 4 R, 17 within 1 R and 10 in tied games. Only 8 of his HR came when the margin was >4. Of the 16 HR Jim Thome hit in the 7th inning or later last season, 11 of them were critical. 1 provided insurance when the opponent was within 2 runs 1 provided insurance when the opponent was within 1 run 2 brought the Sox within 3 R 2 brought the Sox within 1 R 2 tied the game up 3 gave the Sox the lead -

QUOTE(briguy27 @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 09:36 PM) Yeah, my guess is half were solo, and they all came when the Sox were down by 5+ runs Before I do 15 minutes worth of research to prove you wrong - since you are wrong - I'll just say that last season Thome had 20 go ahead hits in 143 games while Konerko had 22 in 152 games. Aaron Rowand has had 13 over his past 207 games. -

QUOTE(GoGoWhiteSox! @ Jul 24, 2007 -> 09:18 PM) Just to throw this out there; Aaron Rowand's stats tonight: 3 for 4 with 3 runs and 1HR. He is now batting .330 / 15HR /55RBI. IMO I would rather have Rowand than the big dumb Hillbilly Jim Thome. Thome is useless, unless you need a guy who can get you 30HR a year all coming in the 2nd or 3rd inning. Jim Thome had more home runs in the 8th inning last season than he did any other inning. -

He just laid that last one right in there to Guillen. His fastball just looks incredibly hittable.
