  1. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:42 PM) Even though I think Jose's trade value is nada, do you think that a Contreras and Dye for Betemit, Billingsley and Kershaw trade is reasonable from both teams standpoints? Earlier we were talking about Betemit and Billingsley for Dye alone, we would essentially be trading Contreras for Kershaw straight up. Do you think the Dodgers would consider that, or do I need to lay off the bong?(figuratively speaking) Incredibly one sided trade. Contreras' trade value is pretty much nil at this point let alone getting one of the best pitching prospects in baseball in exchange for his 50 year old broken down ass.
  2. So this throws a bit of a wrench into the resurgence now doesn't it? 66-29 here on out and this team will be playing in October!
  3. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 10:00 PM) You gotta admit that the Thornton/Marte thing is a fair guess though. It was a well educated guess, I'll give you that.
  4. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 09:58 PM) Number of 3 run innings tonight: 13 Number of innings with at least 3 runs: 17 Am I the only one fascinated by this? Your updates have piqued my interest.
  5. QUOTE(knightni @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 09:57 PM) Damn. I think that I just figured out your avatar. Matt Thornton's Damaso Marte. If only Matt Thornton and Damaso Marte had even half the good looks of Chad Billingsely and Wilson Betemit.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 09:53 PM) Exactly....besides for the closer, it's the worst bullpen I've seen in the majors in a long time. I do love letting a lefty start against the 2-3-4 that destroys lefty pitching. Right now out of 7 slots the Sox have 2 filled, the closer and LOOGY roles are pretty reliable. I don't see how a team can be expected to go 66-29 to finish out the season when 5/7 of the pen is filled with dog s***. This resurgence bulls*** is just f***ing retarded. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 09:54 PM) I don't question this move, if only because just about every manager doesn't use their closer in a tie game in the ninth. But seriously, why is this common practice? If it goes to extras anyway, you're using another pitcher besides the closer if it goes that far. The goal is to not let it (obviously). Actually it's pretty common practice to use your closer in the top of the 9th in a tie game at home.
  7. Anyone who thinks the Sox can make a run this year with this bullpen is f***ing delusional.
  8. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) How on Earth do you platoon two lefties? Especially 2 as similarly inept as Groiny and Grindy.
  9. The Rangers extended the contract of GM Jon Daniels today for an additional year, locking him up through 2009 despite the fact the pretty much every move he's made since taking over the position has been a failure.
  10. Hell, I'd deal them Buehrle, Dye and Contreras for a king's ransom if they were down for it. Can you say Wilson Alvarez, Danny Darwin, and Roberto Hernandez?
  11. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 05:20 PM) What have you seen from this squad to warrant that sort of optimism? They scored 10 runs last night! The fuse has now been lit for the 12th time this season! Of course those 10 runs were at the aid of an injured starting pitcher, some of the absolute worst defense you are ever going to see and a 29 year old Korean who's major league career might just be coming to an end.
  12. Wayne Krivsky is said to be looking for a whole lot more than a young major league starter and a lefty reliever, you'd have to include a big time infield prospect on top of that atleast. Though I don't even see how the Sox could match the talent of Hensely and Hampson. Hensley who was one of the better young starters in baseball last season putting up a 114 ERA+ (park adjusted) though he has had some injury problems this year. And Hampson has been unbelievable this year, he's a 27 year old lefty who's sporting a sub 1 ERA and a 493 ERA+ in 22.3 IP out of the pen this year. I can't really think of the White Sox equivalent to that sort of talent.
  13. Nick Masset is on right now with Boers, Bernstein and Steve Stone. If anyone is interested. Stone has long been a huge fan of his. Masset says it has been pretty tough adjusting to the role of a reliever and that he believes he's better suited as a starter. Stoney hinting at a trade coming soon saying the saying Kenny is shopping a few starters and could very well deal one sometime soon.
  14. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 02:07 PM) A guy seemingly getting no attention at all this year is Carlos Pena. He's having an absolutely fantastic year, perhaps one that may turn him into one of the next great sluggers in the league. .314/.404/.669/1.073 with 16 homers and 29 XBHs. Kind of funny, because the last organization he was with - the Red Sox - were the ones to turn Papi into what he is today. I wonder if it's at all possible that they hold the secret to turning slow, powerful, left-handed bats into sluggers. Remember when the Sox signed Erstad and you brought up Pena's name in the "Erstad Signs" thread as a possible backup 1B for the Sox? You're like some sort of baseball genius.
  15. Do you think the Cardinals would be willing to move Pujols in a deal for Buehrle if the Sox included a replacement for Albert in the deal like say Rogowski?
  16. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:35 PM) We're lucky to have taken that $10 million off our payroll and gotten a solid prospect like Gio. Everybody who was paying attention knew that Freddy had arm issues last year and may have been damaged goods. One needs to also consider that our $106 million payroll probably kept us from acquiring somebody like Soriano. And it's not like JD, Paulie, and Thome sucked last season. The payroll is actually much closer to $96M than $106M. Just saying.
  17. QUOTE(AirScott @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 12:19 PM) I agree with that. Zito is getting $18 per, but he's got a Cy Young in his cabinet and his H/9 have generally been lower. Buehrle's control is better, though. 2004 to Date. 113 GS | 10 CG | 49-34 W-L | 772 IP | 5.5 K/9, 1.8 BB/9 | 1.17 HR/9 | 3.00 K/BB | 3.89 ERA | 1.27 WHIP 117 GS | 00 CG | 47-41 W-L | 746 IP | 6.5 K/9, 3.7 BB/9 | 1.07 HR/9 | 1.73 K/BB | 4.09 ERA | 1.34 WHIP Who's who?
  18. It depends on what they're planning on spending in payroll next season. If it's somewhere in the mid 80's then Buehrle probably needs to be dealt before the break. If it's somewhere in the mid 90's then $15M a year is probably doable. An $85M payroll with Buehrle taking up $15-$18M of that just isn't going to work, I don't think you can field a competetive team under those circumstances.
  19. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 11:57 AM) I clearly don't think Conteras contract is as unmoveable as some of you all think it is. Freddy was abl eto get moved, Javier Vazquez was moved multiple times, Chan Ho Park, etc....you can bet your ass the club could move Contreras and get something if they wanted to (although it would be nice if he had a couple good starts). Jose is up to a 4.80 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and isn't striking anyone out. He's believed to be atleast over 40 years of age but no one really knows for sure, his stuff has deteriorated at a shocking rate since he's now throwing exclusively in the high 80's with no strikeout pitch that he can throw for a strike and he's guaranteed $20M over the next 2 seasons. If he doesn't finish this year off strong it could be REAL tough to move him this offseason without eating any of the contract.
  20. Kalapse

    Entourage

So I'm the only one who thought the episode sucked? It's a show full of actors who barely act as is, so when you throw them into a documentary style show suddenly you have bad actors who aren't used to acting, acting like they're not acting and failing miserable. Vince looked completely ridiculous as Pablo Escobar, it looked like a skinny white guy in a whole lot of prostetic makeup with a terrible accent. If Medellín were a real movie Vincent Chase would win a Rassie for the role. Seeing as how nothing bad really ever happens on this show, I assume Vince will win an Oscar for the role or some s*** which will make no sense what so ever.
  21. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 02:46 AM) Kalapse I already admitted this in a previous post. I was unaware that KW asked him about this last year or in spring training. I think you just like to argue with me, which is cool with me, I don't mind. Not everything is an arguement, perhaps you need to realize that. If you're going to be quoting my posts with an opposing view then there's a good chance you're going to get a response.
  22. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:29 AM) That's an awful lineup, Southside. It's also about $98-$100M worth of players right there before including the bench and bullpen.
  23. I really don't think Eckstein is anything more than a second baseman at this point in his career, his arm has reached Juan Pierre status.
