  1. Right now I'd say the Tigers are tops followed by the Sox and Indians tied for second with the Indians maybe taking a slight edge.
  2. You know it's fun debating this and all but I've got a major case of deja vu going right now so I'm done. I think the situation was pretty f***ing obvious but whatever my 2000 posts on the subject can speak for themselves.
  3. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 06:53 PM) I don't disagree with you, but did you consider that maybe he did and maybe KW said "no"? KW has always been a big BA supporter and he very well may have refused a request to send him down to the minors. No because that's pretty ridiculous. Even if KW is a big BA fan he's not going to leave him on the roster if he's not going to be used correctly. The use of Mack in CF last year hurt the team big time and lead to more than a handful of losses, KW knows this and has said it a few times on Chicago Sports Radio. He's not going to put his like/dislike of a player over what's best for the team this much is true. If Ozzie went to KW and requested a CF, KW would have gone right out and got him one and from what has been said in the media no such request was ever made.
  4. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 06:46 PM) So, is Ozzie terrible for not playing Brian enough? Or not playing Mack enough? I can't say I really understand the question seeing as how I never said Ozzie was terrible to begin with. Ozzie did f*** up last year by having a corner OF/infielder play CF for 63 too many games when it was not at all necessary. Either play Anderson in CF everyday or go find someone else who can play the position. I think Mack got a perfect number of ABs last year just at the wrong position the 436 innings he played in CF probably should have been played in left.
  5. QUOTE(WCSox @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 06:37 PM) Did it ever occur to you that Anderson may have had limited playing time for disciplinary reasons? He does have a history of cocky, immature behavior. Then find a legit 4th OF, it's really not that hard. Anyone who could play even average defense in CF would have helped the Sox out a whole lot last season. If you're going to be disciplining your players then go to your general manager and request a player to fill in. There was no reason at all for Mackowiak to be starting in CF last year when he or Gload should have been starting in LF.
  6. 2 yrs, $13M guaranteed to resign with the Cardinals. That's $4.33M to pitch 3 months in '07 and $8.67M for the '08 if you break it down in monthly earnings. That's just the guaranteed money, he can earn up to $45M over 3 years if he manages 30 starts in '07 and '08 which he will not do. This has a very good chance of being a major waste of money.
  7. QUOTE(shoota @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 03:43 PM) Post #18: So what managers currently in baseball do you like?
  8. Amy Jo Johnson was the was a favorite of any kid growing up in the 90's.
  9. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jan 10, 2007 -> 01:57 PM) Does MLB keep statistics on that? MLB does not but independent baseball statistical organizations do like baseballinfosolutions.com and Stats Inc.
  10. QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 09:12 PM) I know it's heresy, but I think the Indians have a better starting staff than the Sox. Last year CLE had a better overall ERA (4.41 to 4.61), with Westbrook having a better ERA than Contreras, Lee better than Garland, and Vazquez and Byrd almost even (4.84 to 4.88). Granted, the Jake is easier to pitch at than the Cell and I don't know what the park-adjusted stats are. Still CLE's key pitchers are young and likely to improve, and they can expect Sowers and Sabathia to pitch more innings this year. I know that it'e easy to say Sabathia will get hurt and Sowers is just a rookie, but I think objectively it's at least arguable who has the better pitching. I'm not real excited by the idea of Floyd, Sisco, and Logan being on the Sox. I have very little confidence in any of those guys, although Logan at least performed OK in AAA last season. The AL Central simply looks loaded in 2007. ERA+ is a park adjusted stat so it's often a good tool for comparing players. below average Player (age): ERA+ | WHIP Contreras (53): 109 | 1.27 Westbrook (29): 107 | 1.43 Garland (27): 103 | 1.36 Lee (28): 102 | 1.41 Vazquez (30): 96 | 1.30 Byrd (36): 92 | 1.50
  11. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 05:44 PM) Yup but they are basically done. It's like the end of an era after Ripken, Larkin, Biggio, Bagwell. I think I'm going to fight for Larkin in '10. He's far from a lock and could very well be passed over for a few years but the guy deserves to get in. The top offensive SS for the 90's while playing outstanding defense and carrying himself well in the media, sounds like a HoFer to me.
  12. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 05:42 PM) Haha, me and greasy were just saying the exact same thing. I'm struggling to think of another player who might retire having played for 1 team. Astros right side of infield for the 90's.
  13. QUOTE(The Critic @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 05:26 PM) I know I will. Mike Piazza played 70 of his 1829 career games at first base over 14 seasons. (68 of those games came in one season) That's not a first baseman, that is a catcher who played a little first base. He's also possibly the worst defensive catcher in the history of baseball, he kept himself at catcher over the course of his career when he was so much better suited for firstbase. I don't consider him a catcher either, you could have stuck Alex Rodriguez at catcher when he was 23 and he could have played equal or better defense than Piazza did but with twice the production. So when looking at Piazza's numbers you can not look at them in terms of the defensive position he played do to the fact that he really didn't play one. When looking at his numbers as a power hitter they're still very good but nothing outstanding. He'll get in because he holds basically every offensive career mark for a catcher that there is despite the fact that he was playing the position under the most ultimately loose terms imaginable. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 9, 2007 -> 05:31 PM) I wonder if this is the last class we'll see where the HOF inductees played their entire careers for one team. I think Jeter will retire a Yankee but outside of him I can't really think of any other likely candidates. Actually Pujols and Helton *gag* are also possibilities. And Bagwell is basically a lock as is Biggio
  14. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 8, 2007 -> 09:02 PM) They couldn't have casted a better actor for the role of JD's brother; ZB and TC look a lot like. If you didn't know who the actors were you'd think they were brothers, thank god Ed was on NBC and struggling for ratings or we may never have gotten to see Cavanaugh in that role.
  15. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 8, 2007 -> 08:50 PM) I can't pick one favorite so I'll pick a couple from each season: 1: My Old Man (w/ John Ritter) and My Occurrence (w/ Brendan Fraser) 2: My Overkill and My First Step 3: My Catalyst (w/ Michael J. Fox) and My Screw Up (w/ Brendan Fraser) 4: My Cake and My Best Laid Plans 5: My Way Home and My Lunch This show has to do one of the best jobs incorporating guest roles. My Old Man, My Screw Up and My Lunch are probably my 3 favorite of the numerous guest appearances they've had. John C. McGinley is just outrageously good in My Screw Up and even better in My Lunch, the guy is just an amazing actor. Actually My Cake has to be in my top 3 because of how great Tom Cavanaugh is as JD's brother, of course he was great in all 5 episodes he's appeared in.
  16. QUOTE(Balance @ Jan 8, 2007 -> 04:11 PM) How about Kari Byron, the girl from "MythBusters?" I'm not a big fan of red heads but I'd definitely make an exception for her, she's not particularly good looking but there's just something about her.
  17. QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 8, 2007 -> 07:47 PM) Saw the Pilot episode for the first time today. Nothing has changed from that episode to the more recent ones. A riot! Actually I think the show has changed quite a bit. The first season (first episode especially) was a lot less goofy than the newer episodes, they used less sound effects and music and also had a whole lot more ambient noise. The beginning of the first season showed what it was like for a guy fresh out of college to adjust to his new life in a hospital, it was still a funny show but it just had more of a serious feel to it than it does. I wouldn't say the changes to the show have been a bad thing just that they have taken place. The Scrubs pilot is probably the best I have ever seen, pilots are usually completely unwatchable but IMO the first episode of Scrubs is actually the best episode they've filmed to date.
  18. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 7, 2007 -> 10:51 PM) I'm really just wondering what the overall response would be if I were to name Ellen Degeneres. 1 word . . . yummy
  19. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Jan 8, 2007 -> 12:09 AM) Did Knoerko ever bat 3rd last season? 9 G, 36 AB, .856 OPS
  20. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jan 7, 2007 -> 10:34 AM) I absolutely loath sports talk radio. Outside of White Sox Weekly on Saturdays, Boers and Bernstein is the only show I'll even consider listening to. I often disagree with them and sometimes they can be a little mean-spirited, but I find them to be entertaining, funny and intelligent (although most of the intelligence comes from Bernsy). Bernsy really carries the show, and I've never really cared for Boers. But Bernsy, in my opinion, really makes Boers more tolerable, and they work well together. I've listened to Carmen & Silvy, and while they are decent, I didn't consider them good enough for me to tune in on a consistent basis. And as someone else said, their crummy time slot certainly doesn't help. Talk about terrible radio, I can't believe anyone actually listens to that drivel.
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 6, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) We've sure got some jaded mofo's on this site. Regarding Mark's performance, sure he had a s***ty 2nd half to '06. But, if you take a discerning look at his overall body of work throughout his career, Mark's been one of the most valueable pitchers in the majors. Except for a couple of bad streaks, he's been as dependable as anyone. Not great. Not the best. But very solid. I for one have never had a problem with Mark being a Cards fan. I understand what it's like to be a fan. I won't comment on those that do have a problem with this. Just wanted to put my position out there. Then you get into the money issue. Well, wake the f*** up folks, it's a business. And for the players, its a finite business. They happened to blessed with a unique ability that in today's society allows them to make millions of dollars. Because of this set of circumstances, they can financially set up their decendants for generations to come. How many of you fathers out there wouldn't love to have that kind of opportunity? Step back and look at the big picture. Whether it hurts your feelings if he leaves for more money is not part of the equation. I'm having trouble finding the posts by the 'jaded mofo's' in this thread. I thought most everyone was taking a pretty realistic point of view regarding the Buehrle situation. Your post makes it sound like we have people calling Buehrle greedy which I'm just not seeing.
  22. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 6, 2007 -> 02:23 PM) I think you're right if we're talking about the posters at: score670.com I've never seen so many bitter b****es in my life. On the other hand, I have friends who won't listen to B&B because they don't understand all of the inside jokes and what not. It's definitely an acquired taste. I do agree, I listen to them as often as possible but I definitely understand how people could be annoyed by their childish humor, obscure sports references and seemingly pessimistic point of view.
  23. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 6, 2007 -> 05:42 AM) I don't disagree with that, because they both are terrible at taking walks, but you still have to consider the OBP's both players put up last season; Uribe - .257 Cintron - .310 That's still quite a difference b/w the 2 players. To me, Uribe's number is TOTALLY unaccepabtle in a plus hitting environment, while it would be berable for Cintron IF he had the defense that Uribe had, but unfortunately he doesn't. Ok, Cintron put up a .310 OBP in limited time which was only 25 points higher than his batting average that's pretty damn brutal. Who's to say if he gets starters ABs that his batting average doesn't plummet taking that horrid OBP right along with it? I just don't get how you could use OBP at all, Uribe was terrible last year I totally agree I just don't see how Cintron is any better.
  24. So he said if it came down to the Cardianals and Sox offering the same contract he'd pick this Sox? Talk about spin, I never expected the guy to sign with the Cardinals anyway, I expect him to sign with the highest bidder on the open market which in all likely hood would not be the Sox or Cards. If he came on and said he'd be willing to accept a contract similar to what the other starters on the team got then yeah this might be news but nothing has changed between yesterday and today. KW has already tried to re-sign him and failed, no one has to be the bad guy in a situation like this but both sides will be making statements trying to push the blame on the other guy. I'm willing to accept the fact that Mark is looking to cash in big time for his 'prime years' contract and that the asking price is just too much for the Sox. I don't see a need to blame either side.
