  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) Haha, I was thinking the same thing about Fields. Now, if KW trades him in the offseason, people will go nuts. I have to say though, it was an impressive homer. It's probably the most bat speed we've seen from the Sox in the month. Atleast the ball jumps off his bat which is something we did not see from Ryan Sweeney.
  2. Damn you pessimists are starting to piss me off, is it just me or do the Sox still mathematically have a chance? They have not been eliminated yet you negative nellies, this team hasn't hit their stride yet. Maybe if you all showed a little faith in this team they could feed off your positivity and win a few. They're only losing games because all you BAD fans don't believe. JUST REMEMBER! DON'T STOP BELIEVIN' HOLD ON TO THAT FELLIN' STREETLIGHT PEEEOOOPPLLEEE!!!
  3. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) Then wouldn't it be the manager's job, especially a manager whom is regarded as a "player's manager" like Ozzie Guillen to motivate his players and avert a sense of complacency from overtaking his team? ???
  4. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 06:07 PM) How many days til opening day 2007? 195 days, 18 hours, 16 minutes and 19 seconds 4698 hours 281895 minutes 16913719 seconds
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 05:56 PM) We only play 1 non-AL-Central team after 8/31, and we have a lot of late games against K.C. That September portion is going to be nuts. The Sox have 3 off days in the final month which is huge, so that's 27 games in 30 days with 24/27 being against division rivals so no lead will be safe for any team in the division going into the final month. 7/13 of the final games being played against KC looks pretty damn good as of right now but it could be disasterous if the '07 Sox are anything like the '06 team. I'm liking the mixed interleague this year, @CHC(3), HOU(3), @PHI(3), @PIT(3), FLA(3), CHC(3) of the 4 teams the Sox have to play in interleague (excluding the Cubs) it seems they'll atleast play the thougher 2 at home (FLA, HOU) so that should be neato. The most concerning part of the schedule is the post All-Star break road trip from hell 11 games in 11 days all on the road comming after a 3 day break starting with 4 @ BAL which is never easy for the Sox, 3 @ CLE and ending with a 4 game tilt Vs the Red Sox at Fenway which scares the s*** out of me even now. Sadly the Sox will have to go out to Oakland for 2 series of 3 again this year which blows ass, appearantly the MLB brass hate the Sox. Atleast the Sox get another home opener oddly enough it's against the Indians for the 3rd straight season.
  6. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 02:41 PM) Whatever happened to him. I lurked here for a long time before posting. That guy was a huge Michigan homer. Oh, I think he might just be around here somewhere . . .
  7. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 02:56 PM) Welcome to the world of the high paid ballplayer. The Sox are not exempt to this attitude apparently. Why do you think so few teams repeat. At least Boston made it back to the playoffs after their title. Then wouldn't it be the manager's job, especially a manager whom is regarded as a "player's manager" like Ozzie Guillen to motivate his players and avert a sense of complacency from overtaking his team?
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) The Bills d is fine and dandy but once again it was more about Culpepper not being able to make a f'n throw that cost the phins the game. He looks like absolute crap so far. Sounds like the same Culpepper we saw in Minnesota the past few years, he's also slimmed down quite a bit which was always a big advantage he had. Comming into the season I figured Harrington would be starting in Miami about halfway through the year when Culpepper completely implodes and likely injures himself.
  9. QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 12:40 PM) Thomas will always be a Sox?. I don't buy that. I appreciate all he did alright - up till 2006. I will always appreciate and smile at what he did - but I could care less what he does now. "Always a Sox" - yeah, hold on to that thought when you see him wearing green during his induction ceremony. SFF Who gives a s*** what color suit he wears during the ceremony? The Bronze statue will have an S-O-X on it which is all that really matters.
  10. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 12:33 PM) You're mean. p.s. You guys are going to kill us. It's what I do. I have good memories of a Bears defense just brutalizing Daunte Culpepper and P-Nut "It's more fun to just tackle the reciever than to turning around and defend the damn pass." Tillman jumping numerous passes thrown to his side of the field, usually while covering Randy Moss but that's a whole 'nother story. And yes I have managed to completely repress the memories of him tearing apart the Bears teams of the past, I'm convinced that was a different person.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) The Jets suck too for that matter. What an easy schedule. Yeah but I only know one Jets fan so I can't gloat all that much. It's amazing just how many Dolphins fans there are in the area though, I know about 10 Phins fans and it would feel good to rub it in all their faces if the Bears can take that game.
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 11:31 AM) Maybe a distraction would help at this point? You know what, I hate enough things about this team already I don't need a player/announcer spat on top of it.
  13. I just LOVE the fact that the Bears play the AFC East this year simply because of the Phins and Bills games (both games also being played in Chicago) this shall be a fun season.
  14. When Mike North mentioned Hawk's comments to AJ this morning on his radio show I had sudden flashes of Kent Mercker and Todd Walker run through my head. I was frightened he would go that route and they'd have another distraction on their hands, one of Cub like proportions. Luckily he brushed it off saying "Well, that's unlike him" and that was basically it, so thank god for that.
  15. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) Yikes, thought something was up with those dropped passes he had today. Any word on how long he's out for? And oh yes, our defense is GOOD. Can't say I'm not happy about this news.
  16. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 11:12 PM) This is what I was trying to say in regard to my position on this thread. The Critic said it for me. I agree wtih The Critic wholeheartedly. This is my stance on the season from my perspective as well. Though I would add the bullpen also faltered and we had the automatic out in cf coupled with the butcher on days the automatic out didn't play. As well as the automatic out in lf. I realize I'm being too hard on BA. I know, he hit .300 the last 3 months; but like some other poster pointed out he wasn't exactly mr. clutch. And the most automatic of all outs at SS in Uribe since Cintron had all but disappeared up until today.
  17. QUOTE(Damen @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) I view it the same way. I really just wanted to see this team make it into the playoffs, and this team had the talent to do it. Their second half has been a tremendous disappointment, and to be honest, I'm glad the Bears are rocking so I can put the Sox on ignore for a few months. I'm tired of seeing a different facet of our lineup fail to show up on any given night, tired of Ozzie's ritahded lineups, tired of reading Ozzie's ritahded interviews, and tired of all the idiot Sox fans who thinks we haven't won this year because we didn't play 'small ball.' This is gold, pure gold.
  18. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) I believe it was you that said it best before...this year would have been immensely heart-breaking if we had not won a championship last year. And just to be clear, I do find this year's collapse saddening, just not at the level some people are making it out to be. It ain't easy to repeat, and the pre-season favorite usually doesn't go all the way... Just because it's not easy to repeat doesn't mean it shouldn't be expected, the Blue Jays won in both '92 and '93 and the Yankees won in '98, '99 and '00. So out of the past 13 World Series Champions there has been 3 repeats and there have been 3 multi-world series winning franchises (Jays, Yanks, Marlins). And for the record the White Sox weren't even a clear cut favorite this year, IMO the Yankees were.
  19. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) Fathom I'm sure you'v enjoyed some of the games this year. If not forgive me for misreading you. There have been plenty of seasons worse than this one. I enjoyed a lot of games in 1998 and 2000 and 2001 oh and 2003 HEY! I've enjoyed games every single season since I've been watching baseball. Just because I enjoyed a bunch of games this season doesn't mean this year is any less disappointing, infuriating or confusing. QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 10:21 PM) Um, I beg to differ on that. I do agree with you however we underachieved. No doubt. But cmon. Disgusting = prolific/awesome
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 10:16 PM) So you reference a game we eventually lost, and 4 out of 6 wins against one of the worst teams in all of baseball? The worst team in the worst league in the history of planet earth.
  21. QUOTE(credeisamazing @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) what happened to all the people that had faith in the team?? this post is disgusting me with the way that people are acting. it's still possible. it's going to be hard, but it's still there. you never knwo what's going to happen. seriously though, that's a ridiculous way to act. things happen. we came off a championship year, so the standards are higher, but it's not the same team. suck it up and think about it. have faith in your team Why exactly should anyone have faith in this team after this past weekend/entire second half of the season?
  22. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) Michigan-OSU football>Yankees-Red Sox Jason Avant YES!!!!
  23. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 08:19 PM) POWER doesn't work. THis team needs better defense, better pitching and more speed. They won last season because of a balanced scappy lineup (kinda like this years A's and Twins). I understand KW's feel to get greedy with some extra bucks and go out and get Thome and Vazquez. But changing your team's philosophy after winning the title a certain way was a HUGE mistake. I can't believe you actually believe this. C - Pierzynski 1B - Konerko 2B - Iguchi 3B - Crede SS - Uribe LF - Podsednik CF - Rowand RF - Dye DH - Everett C - Pierzynski 1B - Konerko 2B - Iguchi 3B - Crede SS - Uribe LF - Podsednik CF - Mackowiak/Anderson RF - Dye DH - Thome The starting lineup changed by a whole 2 players, 2 PLAYERS! So if the Sox had Carl Everett and his .745 OPS as well as Rowand and his .736 OPS in this year's lineup instead of Anderson and Thome the Sox would be characterized as a tough, scrappy, well balanced lineup as opposed to an unbalanced, non-scrappy all power lineup and they would be better off? Seriously? Here's why the Sox won last year, it's really really simple. 2005 Team ERA = 3.61 (Best in the AL) 2005 Team ERA+ = 123 (Best in the AL) 2005 Runs allowed per game = 3.98 (3rd best in the AL | CLE: 3.96, ANA: 3.97) 2005 Homeruns hit = 200 (4th most in AL) Last year's offense sucked ass they put up 4.57 Runs/G which was the 6th worst in the AL, luckily the pitching held the opposing team's to 1-3 runs nearly every damn game so if the s*** offense managed to knock in a run in the first along with a 2 run HR in the 8th the Sox would likely win because the bullpen was the s*** last year thanks to career years from Hermanson, Cotts, Politte and who knows maybe even Jenks. Let's say in 2007 the Sox keep this offense intact and they produce the exact same they have this year and by some magical stroke of luck the 2007 White Sox pitching staff pitches equally as good as the 2005 staff. The 2007 White Sox would win around 120 games.
  24. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 07:37 PM) Im going to have to disagree with the last two posts. This team, especailly the O, was a blast to watch in the 1st half. The 2nd half they just tanked, nothing else to really say. I have faith Kenny will get the job done for 07. We'll be back. The saddest thing is, I've lost basically all interest in next year's team even if KW went out and got a new group of players that I actually liked and felt have a chance to will it all I have no faith that they'd be used the right way. NOTHING I've seen this year makes me believe that they'd be put in the best position to succeed. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 07:31 PM) I can honestly say that this year wasn't even fun to watch. Even in other years (losing years, in fact), they were at least still enjoyable to watch. This year was just one kick in the junk after another. It doesn't even feel like a swift kick to the crotch. I trusted this team, I felt safe with this team, I thought they'd never do a thing to harm me, I opened up to them and let them see the real me. Then the 2nd half came along and the Sox took my trust and used it against me. Frankly, I feel violated.
  25. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Sep 17, 2006 -> 07:13 PM) Wow. How quickly people forget. Yeah, sure, they've played poorly a lot more this season, and YES, you have to be hungry for more, but: 1. They DID just win their first title in 88 years, and everyone was so happy, and now, what? It doesn't matter for s*** anymore? SpringfieldFan posted one of the very few sensible and pure posts in this entire thread. 2. This season is NOT over. It MIGHT be, but not certainly. Anything can still happen. 14 games is plenty of time to catch a Wild Card IF things shape up, and seeing as Detroit is next, I'm fairly confident. I very well could be wrong, but if they make it this year, hell, just to the PLAYOFFS, I'm permanently sigging a picture of a big, fat crow to remind all of you about not only last year, but hopefully this year. Have some damn optomism. If we lose, we lose, but this is NOT over yet. I guess nobody learned from what happened last year. They just got their asses handed to them in the biggest series of the season, they got swept in a series that they knew going into they could not afford to get swept in. These are not things that promote optimism. I'm just wondering why I should care if the team wins or loses when it seems they could care less about the outcome of the games they play. This is 2006 by the way, just like Kenny Williams said the time for celebrating last year's achievements has come and gone it's now time to focus on the success of this year's team. You can hold that World Series with you forever and reminisce as often as you please but you can't let the success of a completely different team from last year overshadow the failures of this year's squad. This team has taken the underachievement tag to a whole new level. They've gone from World Series Champions to 3rd place in the AL Central and the 5th best record in all of the AL, in other words they're losers.
