QUOTE(GaelicSoxFan @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) Okay, the Nationals were shopping Soriano at the trade deadline. Here's the problem: they didn't just want McCarthy, Sweeney or Fields. They wanted all the top prospects. I praise Kenny for not selling the farm in order to get an aging, whiny veteran with a big contract and even bigger ego. IMHO, the leadoff hitter for the 2006 Chicago White Sox will be Jerry Owens. He's their top speed prospect. The reasons why they traded for Scott Podsednik are 1. Owens was two years away from being ready for the big leagues and 2. I liked seeing Carlos Lee hitting walkoff grand slams against the Cubs, but he's a member of the 'swing hard in case you hit it' club. That's funny because Jerry Owens wasn't even in the White Sox Organization at the time Podsednik was acquired, the Sox got Owens 2 months after that from the Nationals for Alex Escobar. Plus Jerry Owens at this point in time is probably worse than Scott Podsednik.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) I understand the reasons why St. Louis wouldn't want to do this, but some of those same reasons apply to why they would do it. Yes, they're losing their entire starting staff...but they're losing their entire starting staff! Aside from Carpenter, they really don't have anyone in their rotation. So if they want to shoot for the division next year...they can either hope that all of their young guys progress, or they can pick up a veteran wearing a ring. I believe that Jim Edmonds and his $12m. salary also come off their books this year, IIRC. Edmonds has a $10M team option and a $3M buyout so yeah they'll have another $9M comming off the books in CF next year.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 01:13 PM) Mark didn't pitch in the WBC... ^^^ Yep there were a few things wrong there. 1.) Mark did not pitch in the WBC 2.) Randy Johnson is 43 years old (16 years older than Buehrle) and bad, so I'm not sure what the comparison is there. 3.) Mark Buehrle has a ton of trade value. 4.) Buehrle is a free agent after the 2007 season (next year). The Sox have already made one attempt (midseason) to re-sign him and failed. If you can not lock up Buehrle to a new multiyear deal before Spring Training of next season then he absolutely needs to be traded because he will be walking after next year. With a new purposal in front of the owners to eliminate draft pick compensation the Sox could get nothing in return for Buehrle is he does go elsewhere via free agency (not that any draft picks would be equal compensation). BOTTOM LINE: If Buehlre can't be locked up to a multi year deal before next season starts he needs to be dealt. The Sox have to get some kind of fair compensation for the loss of Buehrle and an offseason trade is the only way to do so.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Sep 28, 2006 -> 10:37 AM) Does Buehrle have a lot of trade value after this awful season for him? A s*** load, the Sox can do better than Reyes and Wainwright.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 09:25 PM) Better after taking contract, cost, salary, etc into consideration. I know Soriano is more talented. You do realize Juan Pierre is going to get $9M+ per this offseason right? Soriano will likely make around $15M a year and considering how much better Soriano is than Pierre I'd say Soriano is worth the extra $4M-$6M per year. Juan Pierre is going to make a lot more money than some people think he's going to get.

QUOTE(Wanne @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 02:40 PM) That's kind of my point. Everybody's lamented about how BMac is not suited for relief and is a starter. Well...the same could be said for Cotts. He's been a starter his whole life and honestly it takes a certain mindset to come out of the pen IMO. I would like to see him come up with another pitch or work on command of the off-speed. But he sure as hell may be more useful as a starter than he has this year coming out of the pen. I'm not sold on him being a valuable trade piece either, although lefties out of the pen are valuable...he really diminished a ton of his value this year. I just think it's an option to possibly look at. Brandon actually has complimentary pitches to his fastball which is something Cotts is severly lacking. There's really no comparing the 2.

The Publisist is now saying this whole thing is a misunderstanding and that Terrell did not attempt suicide instead he accidentally took the pain medication when he confused the pills with some supplements he takes daily, of course this is also a publisist saying this so take it for what it's worth. One report says that Terrell had taken only 5 pills since he broke his finger so there were as many as 35 pills in the bottle.

Just remember if McCarthy were to be traded the rotation would get 5 years older and a few million more expensive next year. Plus only 3 starters are locked up beyond '08 (Buehrle & Garcia are not) and one of those 3 is a 52 year old who has been horrible since comming back from injury. If McCarthy is dealt for a position player the rotation in 2008 could be horrendous.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Sep 26, 2006 -> 10:25 PM) I'd really like to know what his overall numbers are since that start. I think El Duque and his 59 years on earth has pitched better. A TAIL OF TWO SEASONS 4/02/06 - 7/01/06: 16 GS | 111 2/3 | 9-4 W/L | 47:28 K:BB | 12 HR | 3.22 ERA | 1.25 WHIP 7/02/06 - 9/23/06: 16 GS | 92 1/3 | 3-9 W/L | 51:20 K:BB | 24 HR | 7.12 ERA | 1.68 WHIP

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 24, 2006 -> 05:30 AM) You guys are missing the point... for us he would be batting 7th or 8th. And a hitter like him in that position in the lineup is great. The key would be than we would definitely need to replace Uribe with a leadoff hitter from that position. That way the weakness in our lineup(bottom/top) are both taken cared of. Especially if Brian Anderson fullfills the potential we all know he has. This is a 39 year old with incredibly diminished defensive ability who put up a .809 OPS last season in the NL West I think I understand why people aren't all that excited about the prospects of having Luis Gonzalez in LF next year. Monthly Splits: April: .241/.349/.527/.876 May: .299/.381/.381/.762 June: .217/.330/.293/.624 July: .389/.448/.705/1.153 Aug: .237/.310/.395/.704 Sept: .257/.317/.419/.736 1 pretty good month, 1 outstanding month, 3 horrible months, 1 Timo-esque month. 2006 Vs Lefties: 169 AB, 3 HR, .260/.335/.414/.749 2005 Vs Lefties: 167 AB, 3 HR, .269/.359/.389/.749 So he sucks against lefties, that shouldn't be a problem I mean there's no good lefties in the AL Central anyway right? OPS Regression: 2003: .934 2004: .866 2005: .825 2006: .809 2007: .780's?? So it would be another season with a .700 OPS, bad defensive left fielder? Horray. Plus you're forcing KW to go out and find a new SS who can leadoff and there isn't exactly an abundance of those.

QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 11:22 PM) Sucks for Young. Didn't Brenly, when he was managing the dbacks, criticize a player for breaking up a no hitter late in the game claiming the other team had no shot of winning? If I remember the situation correctly, Curt Schilling had a no hitter in the 8th inning of a 1-0 game. Ben Davis (that's right THE Ben Davis) ended up breaking up the no-no with a bunt basehit. After the game Brenley called it Bush League and cried about the unwritten rules of the game.
-
He's starting to lose some of his control now. He's walked the second batter of this inning and now the no hitter is over with a Joe Randa HR.
-
Carlton Fisk would be a pretty bad fit for this team as bench coach. The best case scenerio (other than Ozzie being replaced) this offseason would be for Tim Raines to take over duties at 3rd base and the Sox go out and find a nice experienced bench coach for Ozzie. Someone who could get in his ear when it comes to the important decisions throughout a ballgame. A Joe Nossek type of coach, who could keep Ozzie from blowing games with his s***ty in-game managing.
-
This really is an epic choke job.
-
Chris Young has a no-no going through 8. I believe this is the second time this year he's accomplished such a feat.
-
Well Uribe is padding his stats nicely.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 08:18 PM) I hope everyone is okay. They had us in the stairwell from 4:40 to 5:15. As I was walking to my car staring at the sky, I walked through a puddle that came up to my ankle. The drive home started okay until I was entering 290 (53 extension, whatever) at Algonquin. All hell broke loose for about 20 minutes and then it let up and started again when I hit North Avenue. I had to pull over before getting on 294 as the rain, wind and hail were too much for me to drive through (couldn't see a bloody thing). I get on 294 and it was hellish until Ogden. After that it was too bad and at home it was bone dry. That was the first time driving through such horrendous weather where I really thought there was a chance I could die. Freaked me out. Yeesh, sounds like an absolute nightmare.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 07:39 PM) Should I be concerned? I mean, you're always right and all.... Appearantly a tornado hit Arlington height which is very close to where I live, this is not the first time they've been hit this decade. Also there were reports of very large hail, high winds and zero visability on I294 which is basically right down the road from my house. It was a close call but it looks like I'll live to see another day.
-
I'm not so sure they're capable of it.
-
QUOTE(Dan @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 07:22 AM) The whole entire reason for out downfalls this season is . . . . . . lack of Rowand.
-
Ok, so now the tornado sirens are going off, the wind is picking up and the rain is comming down pretty damn hard. I'll likely be dead before the night is through.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 10:28 PM) whatever. this team won the world series last year, and is almost 20 games over .500 this year... take your ass to Kansas City, the North Side, or f***ing seattle man. This team didn't win s***, the 2005 team won 99 games and a Championship this is a completely different team even if a lot of the same players are still around.

QUOTE(MHizzle85 @ Sep 21, 2006 -> 12:50 PM) I'd like to think the same thing, but with KW as our GM who knows what he's thinking. Personally if the price tag wont be too high i'd like to take a shot at Zito, and thats only because i've had a man crush on him and his curve for years. Zito is an above average pitcher who's going to get Ace money this offseason. 3.91 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, .256 BAA, 95 BB/140 SO (this is just horrendous). 5 years, $12-$14M per for that? No thanks.

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Sep 20, 2006 -> 09:43 PM) since you arent able to have a memory here we go one more time: take notes please for gods sake! YOU RESPECT YOUR WS CHAMPION PLAYERS BY KEEPING THEM! AT LEAST THE MAJOR CONTRIBUTORS! GM couldve reevaluated at All-Star break.... It worked for the Angels the year after their Championship.
