QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 05:00 PM) I don't think anyone is arguing over the 4 minutes. It's just that the $500K figure is a drop in the bucket. The Sox don't seem to have extracted what they could have for the move, as evidenced by the giddy spokewoman "We think it's worth way more than $500,000." Oh yeah I totally agree with you on that, I was mainly tackling the claim that this is a "non-story".

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) I think the argument against it is that, as the Sox are expected to have a payroll around $100M this year, the $500K per year only represents roughly a .5% increase in payroll. It's like spitting in the Lake Michigan. Yet what is the downside to starting games 4 minutes later than usual?

QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) Keep dumping money into the stadium; make it look better and better. This is a non story. Who cares? Actually it's $1.5M more that can go into the payroll of the team (per Brooks Boyer) I'd say that's pretty significant.

QUOTE(Steff @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) Thanks. ETA... I'm missing the reference to drinking and flying... or "flight history" as you labeled it up there? He mentioned Lidle's drinking in a television interview but it's not in the quote from the original New York Post article.
-
I just replaced it with the actual Rhodes quote.
-
Cory Lidle is now confirmed dead, he was only a pilot for 8 months, there was a flight instructor on board the plane at the time of impact. Lidle's passport was found on the street below the crash as well.
-
This is Thurman Munson all over again to a lesser extent I guess. Appearantly the Yankees weren't all that excited about Lidle flying around in a plane. Lidle was supposed to flyout of New Jersey this morning and it's believed that he was the pilot of this plane. ESPN is now confirming that Cory Lidle did die in the plane crash.

Appearantly this plane is registered to Cory Lidle. Arthur Rhodes has mentioned Lidles flight history before:

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) Don't count on Schilling coming back for sure. I would say it's about 80%. Garcia would probably interest a NL team first, I would imagine...and I don't know if Kenny would want to deal someone to a possible playoff foe. That being said, if any Chicago team gets ARod...it's going to be the Cubs. Hendry needs to make a splash and if they end up hiring Sweet Lou, ARod will be a natural choice. They can either let Aramis go and have ARod play 3B or move Izturis to 2B and use Cedeno in a deal or vice versa depending on how much they like Cedeno. And the White Sox don't need more offense, they need pitching. I keep hearing the Cubs as a possible trade partner with the Yankees but I just don't see it as being realistic. The Cubs really don't have the chips to land Arod unless they'd be willing to move Zambrano which would be completely retarded from the Cubs point of view.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 02:52 PM) Is Brian Anderson the next Jeremy Reed? Just wondering. What makes Brian a better prospect than Reed? Other than injury, what exactly is the problem with Reed? The guy is still a decent propect going into his 4th season, he hasn't shown much power potential in the bigs and regressed offensively in his 3rd season mostly due to injury. If he could just stay healthy Reed could still be a nice .280 hitter, 8 HR, 30 2B, 50 RBI, 70+ R, 15 SB with excellent defense in CF next year. What does it mean to be the "next Jeremy Reed"?
-
The first sign of Jeter being a horrible leader was his unwillingness to move to 3B after the Yankees acquired a superior defensive SS. I can't believe this isn't brought up more often, it was an incredibly selfish move and actually hurt the Yankees in the longrun.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 11:55 PM) Nope. That article has completely changed my mind. Can you guys believe that A-Rod doesn't get along with everyone on his team? What an awful person. ENEMIES!!!
-
Steve McNair is not very good, same goes for the team he plays for.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 10:04 PM) So are you trying to say that he's a bad defender? He's basically a reincarnation of Greg Norton.
-
QUOTE(Brian @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 10:02 PM) What a borefest tonight. There aren't even any sacks or hard hitting plays it's basically just bad quarterback play and running backs falling down after 2 yard runs.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 09:45 PM) Your way off base. Coming into the season, everyone wasnt sure if the O was going to be there, but you could count on the D. A Scouting Report from Roto. Here's what Jim Bowden thinks of Zimmerman's defense:
-
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 07:49 PM) Still the leader of our defense(Urlacher) was a first rounder and the leader of our offense(Grossman) was a first rounder. 1st rounders are mostly over-paid overall.... but there is also a reason they are in the 1st round as well. And the 2006 defensive player of the year (Harris) was a first rounder.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 07:18 PM) Yep, I counted is 0 for 4 against Minny on 10/1. Sorry. You are forgiven.

QUOTE(TLAK @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 06:47 PM) You are aware, I assume, that Brian hit .188 in September? Actually he hit .200

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 03:52 PM) Where's the vomit smiley??? Eric Byrnes' words, not mine.

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 01:22 PM) I'm not going to go through 17 pages, but isn't the idea of the offseason to get Iguchi out of the number 2 slot? At least one of the ideas. Also, didn't Ozzie want more speed at the top? Roberts is good, but he's not adding more speed, he's replacing it. And yes, A-Rod can steal some bases, but that's not really why he's on anyone's team. Personally, I'd rather have Jeter if we are going to trade with the Yankees. He will do whatever it takes to win, yes, you lose a lot defensively from Uribe, but you pick up about 70 points in batting average and about the same in baseball IQ. Discuss. Yes, the Yankees will likely be looking to deal Derek Jeter, the Michael Jordan of baseball.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 08:01 PM) Buehrle, Crede, McCarthy, Thornton, and a prospect? Should the Sox just include the entire Birmingham Barons roster too? I don't buy that at all. As far as I can tell, ARod is completely hated by New York in general, be it fans or the organization. Considering how much he makes(because even with money included, it is a ton), his value isn't high enough that he would net 2 all-stars(Crede's not an all-star, but he was about #33 on the 32 man), a very solid reliever, a very good looking and cheap young starting pitcher, as well as another prospect. I obviously don't have inside sources into the Yankees FO, but if they are asking that much for 1 player who has a bad reputation for not being clutch, they aren't going to get rid of him. They may not want to get rid of him, so if not, they have all the right in the world to ask for that. George and company will get laughed at, but they can do so if they wish. If you translate Buehrle, Crede, McCarthy, Thornton and a prospect into an Angels package you basically get Lackey, Figgins, Santana, Shields and a prospect for A-Rod. It just doesn't seem very plausible now does it?

Mike Lowell locked up the gold glove sometime around June.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 8, 2006 -> 03:20 PM) And eventually lose, so you have nothing to worry about. Ya, I'll stop talking trash because it's not too hard to make fun of my team.... Who the hell starts at QB for the Dolphins next week? Culpepper is just a collosal failure.
