  1. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 12:19 PM) Third -- notice how there are ZERO quotes (or very few) from Kenny Williams in this article? This writer is going on pure speculation, no factual basis. Oh, wait -- he's going by Ozzie's mouth. And I personally believe, that for every time Ozzie spouts off about Anderson not doing something well, Kenny has someone much smarter and much more rational in his other ear saying that Brian has saved however many runs over the average CFer defensively, and that he's been a much different player since June. The funniest thing about Ozzie's appearant hatred of Brian Anderson is that Kenny Williams seems feels the opposite way. He was on the Score with Offman and Rogers and basically said that Ozzie is handling Anderson all wrong and that he'd like to see him play everyday. Kenny had to go to Arizona for a few days just to clear his head and get away from all the bulls***, I think that's pretty telling right there IMO. QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 12:24 PM) Can we realize something here. We are talking about some guys that only a year or two ago were treated like gods and needed to be wrapped up in long term contracts. They were the can't miss HoFers. Now we have another group of guys that are can't miss HoFers and people are rushing into the lineup. And guess what, they'll be dog meat at some point also. Who are the current group of HOF that will soon be dog meat because if it's the players I think you're referring to, it already seems like a lot of people have jumped straight to the dogmeat already.
  2. QUOTE(TaylorStSox @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) I'm still not convinced McCarthy will be any better than an average 5th starter next year. We have to find some speed somewhere. The only 2 viable positions are LF and SS. I wouldn't mind seeing Pierre in left. He does get on base, steal bases and cover alot of ground. He's better than Pods. If we fill SS with a speed guy and start Sweeney in left, we might have a shortage of guys who can drive the ball. 1.) Pierre does not get on base he had a .329 OBP in '05 and a .333 OBP this year that is absolutely terrible for a leadoff man. Not to mention the fact that he was nowhere to be found for the first few months of the season. 2.) He is a pretty bad defensive player who, like Podsednik, uses his above average speed to make up for a lack of defensive ability. He also has one of the 3 worst arms in the history of major league baseball, he makes Pods look like freaking Roberto Clemente in that regard. 3.) Just because he might be slightly better (SLIGHTLY) than Scott Podsednik does not mean he should be playing for this team, that would be settling for mediocrity again and I'm sick of seeing it. All I want next year from my LF/Leadoffman is someone who can play a little D with an above average arm and a .360+ OBP. 4.) Juan Pierre is bad. He's also bad and when it comes to playing baseball he is not good at it. 5.) He's going to get more money than he is worth because people think he's an excellent leadoff hitter due to his speed, I do not want to give a s***ty player $6-$8M a year over 4/5 years that money could be spent better elsewhere on players who are good at baseball. 6.) Even in all his suckiness he's never played in the AL, imagine how far that .333 OBP could dip once he shows up in the superior league, we could be looking at a .300 OBP leadoff hitter. 7.) Juan Pierre sucks at life.
  3. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) The only argument I might see for trading Vaz and keeping Garcia is that Vaz might have higher trade value if he closes out this season well. Well, and Vaz is a little more expensive. With both of them, basically if you keep either of them, you're hoping for the best next season. You're hoping that a longer offseason and it being a contract year gives Garcia reason to find his fastball again, or you're hoping that Vaz has actually turned a corner and can at least give you 6 quality innings in most games next year if you're careful with him. I'm not sure I'm confident in either of those statements. So if someone's willing to throw a top 20 prospect at me for Vazquez but not Garcia, I jump on the deal. No matter what I want Garcia gone after this season, even if you can get something of great value for Vazquez I'd rather see both of them go as opposed to keeping Garcia and trading Vazquez. Garcia has proven this year that he's just a s*** teammate and that he'll likely never be a dominant starting pitcher in the American League again.
  4. The amount of people who would rather keep Garcia over Vazquez is appalling.
  5. QUOTE(Wealz @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 12:18 AM) Read what you've written if you don't know what you are. Sexy?
  6. QUOTE(Wealz @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 12:11 AM) Everyone who reads these threads knows what you are (misspellings and all.) You're comfortable with that so I have no issue with you on a personal level. Haha, what am I? Just curious.
  7. QUOTE(Wealz @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 11:59 PM) I read often enough to know you don't understand the game. This comming from the guy who's never seen a negative Buehrle thread, you can't be all that perceptive then.
  8. QUOTE(Wealz @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 11:57 PM) Guillen gets raked over every day on this site while Anderson, Buehrle and the like get a free ride. Damn, you REALLY don't read that often do you?
  9. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 08:08 PM) No, pulling into a virtual tie with the Tigers and Twins would be awful. You're assuming the Sox sweep the Indians which I just don't see happening. The best case scenerio would be a Tigers sweep. Tigers Sweep Sox Sweep: 3.5 game lead in the WC, 4.5 GB in the division Tigers Sweep Sox get Swept: .5 GB in the WC, 8.5 GB in the division Twins Sweep Sox Sweep: .5 GB in the WC, .5 GB in the division Twins Sweep Sox get Swept: 4.5 GB in the WC, 4.5 GB in the division Now these are only the best and worst case scenerios for both situations but it does show how a Tigers sweep would be the best scenerio of the 2 simply because the worst case scenerio is not THAT devastating.
  10. QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 07:20 PM) No offense intended to you as a Tigers fan, but I'd love to see the Twins and Sox sweep their series this weekend, just to make the Central a complete clusterf*** for the last 3 weeks of the season. That wouldn't exactly help the Sox now would it?
  11. Tigers currently up 3-0 on the Twins in the top of the 2nd . . . the sweep is underway.
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 06:44 PM) BTW, great night for Sports Comcast-Sox ESPN2-Tigers-Twins NBC-Steelers-Dolphins... All of which should be in HD, along with a 'meh' college game on ESPN.
  13. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 06:24 PM) It's sort of surprising to see how many people want Vaz gone OVER Freddy. I guess that much doesnt surprise me anymore on Soxtalk, but.... It kind of reminds me of the whole Jim Thome "clutchiness"/"he stole the small ball" situation.
  14. QUOTE(WCSox @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 06:13 PM) Agreed on Garland. But as for the rest, Vazquez has sucked for most of the season, Contreras and Buehrle have been maddeningly inconsistent (and possibly injured), and Freddy's arm is about to fall off. Vazquez has been pretty good for 3 months and horrid for 2, so he has not sucked for most of the season, he's actually been pretty good for a majority of the year. ERAs by Month: April: 3.67 May: 3.99 June: 7.50 July: 6.82 August: 3.41 September: 1.13
  15. QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 06:11 PM) Reason #1 why Mack is in LF vs. Lee: 4 for 6 lifetime http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/bvsp...=4&sort=avg The lack of a starting LFer and leadoff man, maybe. But the lack of a 4th Ofer has cost the sox few games this yr compared to the lack of production at the top of the lineup. Well if a lack of a 4th OF has cost the Sox even 1 game this season then that is in fact why they are .5 back in WC race as opposed to .5 up on the Twins.
  16. QUOTE(beck72 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 06:02 PM) Nothing that interesting. Just a show of support for the sox making the playoffs when they were sliding. Still time to sign up [anytime up to the clinch date of getting the division or wild card]. The lack of a decent 5th OFer is not the reason the sox find themselves 1/2 game out of making the playoffs. 4th OF and it very well could be.
  17. QUOTE(qwerty @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) Why do threads constantly suck now? Because you havn't started one in 6 months.
  18. When the Twins looked like they were basically done and the offense had gone to s***, Justin Morneau was the one who stepped it up and went on an absolute tear. His season stats may not be is eye-popping as the rest but when the Twins needed it the most Justin Morneau came up huge and helped a team that seemed to be dead in the water climb back into the playoff race.
  19. Buehlre and Garcia especially have been absolutely HORRID against the Indians this year, Garcia has an 11+ ERA vs them so that oughta be fun. Vaz on the other hand has dominated the Tribe with a 2-0 record, 1.53 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, .221 BAA, 20:7 K:BB and has not allowed a HR to them this season. At this point Garland is the best pitcher in the rotation and I have faith that he can shutdown any team he faces right now so I won't even bother checking his season stats Vs the Injuns.
  20. QUOTE(longshot7 @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:55 PM) Twins throwing some real dogs in this Tigers series, so my money's on Det taking 2 of 3. It's a 4 game set. Also, Garza has the ability to shut down the Tigers offense especially with the way they've been playing of late, Boof Bonser has been outstanding since being recalled from AAA on August 9th and Johan Santana is the best pitcher in the game. I wouldn't exactly call them dogs.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) Game 3 likely doesn't go into extra innings if Ozzie didn't make the terrible decision to bring in Hermanson to face Jason Lane in the 8th inning. Hermanson hadn't pitched in about 3 weeks, and he clearly had nothing left at that point in the season. YES! I was just about to post that, it sure seemed like a sentamental with Guillen going to Hermanson late in the game. It made no sense at the time and it makes even less sense now. QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 01:48 PM) Okay how about this trap: Ozzie won the world series last year, true or false? Manuel couldn't even win a friggin' playoff GAME. When did Manuel ever have a pitching staff anywhere near to what Ozzie had last year?
  22. An Outfield of Sweeney, Anderson, Dye would immediately improve the starting pitching which should be the #1 goal of management. That sort of OF defense will save more runs than you can imagine.
  23. IMO it should really be between Morneau and Dye with Dye currently kicking the crap out of him, so in other words it should be Dye. There's absolutely no reason to even mention Ortiz, Ramirez and Hafner seeing how pathetic their teams are and their numbers are not so outragous to where they overshadow the other guys in the running.
  24. QUOTE(Dan @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 11:31 AM) i absolutley agree. half this forum is nothing but fair-whether fans, and thats including many of the guys with a lot of posts too. last year, you guys sing our teams praises, we dance in the streets, world series yada yada yada. this year, Podsednik sucks we need to replace him. hell i saw threads sugesting the likes of Dave f***ing Roberts. come on people. we've seen what scotty (and the rest of the team for that matter) can do but he hits a rut and you loose all faith? no trades need to be made, until scott comes out of the slump we play Ozuna in LF and try to pick up our offense 1-9. PS the true reason for scott's slump, Lisa Dergan is too much as for him to handle. shoota's got me on this one. Wow, talk about being WAY offbase. Yes, anyone who questions the team or the manager is a fair weather fan, that makes sense. 1.) Scott Podsednik is a bad baseball player, it was appearant in '04 as well as the second half of last year, tell me one thing that he does well? Exactly, this is not a slump this is him playing the kind of baseball he was born to play. He's been in the league for 4 years, 1.5 of which have seen him play good ball, the other 2.5 years he's been a below average offensive player with some of the worst defense imaginable in LF. There is no more "waiting for him to come out of his slump" it's over, done with, the man should no longer see the field, there's currently 4 better alternatives to him on the current roster, 3 lefties, 1 righty and 2 of which can play excellent defense in the corners. 2.) Dave Roberts. The idea of acquiring Dave Roberts to take over leadoff duties next year was not thought up by an "fair weather, Scott Podsednik hater" on this site, it was reported in some San Diego Newspaper that once Dave Roberts hits free agency this offseason he will be targeted by Kenny Williams so ya, if you want to get upset at anyone for that, go after the writer and Ken Williams. If you think I or anyone else is a "fairweather fan" because we refuse to settle for mediocrity/get upset with the team losing then you should probably rethink your definition of the phrase.
  25. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 7, 2006 -> 12:31 AM) Someone doesn't count records with as-ter-isks!
