  1. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Sep 1, 2006 -> 02:33 AM) Yay for Farney That's actually where I got the link from, hell that's where I get a good portion of my baseball information. That may not be a good thing.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 11:52 PM) I wish we could swing something for Freel. I love that guy. If you enjoy psychopathic, alcoholic, drug addicts. He is litterally insane.
  3. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 05:15 PM) He has to be better than some of the crap we have here. I'll take him. No, no he is not especially when you factor in his injury woes/attitude/past transgressions.
  4. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 03:08 PM) lol, i was really just goofing around. He actually has been pretty bad in clutch situations, as shown by Kalapse...I actually didn't know that...but atleast when he hits it it goes a long ways, I guess. Actually his close and late is pretty horrible but he's been incredibly clutch this year, about a month or so ago I went back through and found a plethera of huge hits Thome has come up with this year. Plus outside of the 9th inning he's a monster and to quote some guy I once talked to on the internet "I'll take a guy who's great for 8 innings as opposed to just 1" atleast I think that was the quote.
  5. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 02:42 PM) WOW...just WOW. Are you kidding me? I understand the number, but COME ON!!! I think Thome has EARNED the right to continue past the 6th inning. His .167 batting average in clutch situations says otherwise.
  6. QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) Zito will get a lot more dough than Oswalt. His agent is Boras and the Yankees and Red Sox are going for him. I will gaurantee right now that Zito will not get more than 5 years $75M, Oswalt got a ridiculous amount of money and years, I can't see him getting anymore than that even if the Yakees and Red Sox are bidding for him.
  7. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 01:29 PM) When facing RHP, I'd rather Pods be in the lineup. If he's getting on base, he's a tremendous help to this offense. Gload or Mackowiak can come in as defensive subs later in the game. Podsednik's OBP is currently in the .320's, he is not getting on base. It really doesn't matter what arm the pitcher throws with, Pods will suck against both as he showed yesterday with this 0-5 4 K performance against a righty starter. You can say "when" all you want but he's not getting on base at all and any of the other 3 will more than likely give you a much better performance out of your leadoff man than Pods will.
  8. QUOTE(shipps @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 04:12 AM) hes hitting .348 with risp.but yes only .262 risp w/2 outs.he is still pretty damn dangerous when the game is on the line.i wouldnt say he sucks. Have you seen his close and late? .167 BA and .746 OPS! That is absolutely wretched, there's no reason for Jim Thome to ever bat after the 6th inning, you might as well imediately pinch hit Pablo Ozuna for him the second you hit the 7th, Pabs is sporting a .522 BA and a SICK 1.238 OPS in close and late situations.
  9. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 07:15 AM) I don't know if Baldelli is still hurt or not, but he looked god awful in CF... I am talking worse than Pods. Then again a pulled hammy shouldn't make you drop baseballs that hit your in the palm of the glove. Well, he's barely played organized baseball over the past few seasons so a little defensive rust is to be expected. Rocco is one of the better defensive CF in baseball, I'd compare his defensive ability to that of Grady Sizemore when Baldelli is fully healthy.
  10. The next person to mention Jon Garland and Cy Young in the same sentence shall be b**** slapped. TAKE A f***ING LOOK AT JOHAN SANTANA'S NUMBERS! Then tell me Jon Garland has a chance, the guy will have a 4+ ERA at season's end and the rest of his numbers look like s*** when compared to Santana, Verlander, Halladay or even Danny Haren and John Lackey. DAN HAREN/JOHN LACKEY > JON GARLAND
  11. QUOTE(stretchstretch @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 01:18 AM) I still can't for the life of me understand how this could be the same person who played LF for us last year?? How could one guy collapse in every single aspect of his game, literally every single one??? He was pretty similar to this in the second half of last season as well, in his defense he was pretty damn good in the first half of '05. Post AS Break of last year he put up an OBP of .326 had a K:BB of 34:13, he put up nearly a 50% SB% (15SB, 14CS) which is just deplorable and the cherry on top of that b**** would be his wretched defense and 8 RBI in the 2nd half but hey I guess that's what team MVPs do, just ask Carmon DeFalco.
  12. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 01:16 AM) Damn -- I was kinda hoping it was intentional. I wish it was, perhaps it was done subconsciously.
  13. That wall would be SO much cooler if Tyrus Thomas didn't totally suck.
  14. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 01:07 AM) "sole" -- Love it. I'm aloud my one grammatical f***up of the day.
  15. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 01:01 AM) Technicalities... Yah, but, you know, I didn't even think about that before answering. In the past, every time someone brought up Garland or Cotts or Crede, I'd ask myself if he will actually be a fa. But with Pods, gone is gone. I believe we'll get something for Freddy, but I don't know about Pods. Look at how Joey Gathrights and Jason Tyners change hands. And look at the hands involved. Gathright and Tyner are nobodies, Scott Podsednik was the heart and sole of the 2005 World Series Champion Chicago White Sox offense, the MVP of the 2005 team, an '05 All-Star and the cutest player in the bigs (outside of Jorge Cantu). He has some damn nice value IMO.
  16. QUOTE(qwerty @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 12:42 AM) He will likely sign his one year deal and then they will trade him off... depends how soon they want to get him. They do not want to get rid of him to the point that they non-tender him.. i believe that we will get more back for him than what is expected. Totally agree, I also think the same goes for Garcia, some people see him as having NO value. IMO he'll end up on some NL team next year with the Sox gettting a pretty decent package of prospects back in return. (1-2)
  17. QUOTE(shoota @ Aug 31, 2006 -> 12:21 AM) I'm ignorant to the process of how a FA is rated for draft picks, so could the reason Pods has been playing every day be to ensure the Sox receive an A draft pick and not a B when Pods signs elsewhere in the offseason? Scott Podsednik is not a free agent after this season, he still has i believe 2 years of Arbitration remaining. Meaning he is under Sox control so they can do 1 of 4 things this offseason: 1.) Trade his ass 2.) Sign him to a new deal avoiding arbitration 3.) Go to arbitration with the bastage 4.) Non-tender him, he becomes a free agent, the Sox get diddly.
  18. QUOTE(Whitewashed in @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) Lol check this out. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...sp&c_id=chc EDIT: The link will probably only work until they find out its wrong. That's actually pretty hillarious.
  19. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 11:07 PM) Ozzie is a player's manager and wants players to play the game right. Delmon Young did not play the game right. He got 50 games for it. And when he got to the majors, he got hit by a man that won't tolerate anything like that AND will take the heat for his players in just a situation like this. Maddon, the Rays coach, is just giving this thing lip service...if he was that upset about it, then he woulda hit someone on the Sox...but he didn't. How telling is that? Bottom line, stuff like this is solved on the field and left on the field. Done and...done. So anyone who does not "play the game the right way" shall be hit by a Sox pitcher because Ozzie Guillen wants everyone to "play the right way"? Since when is Ozzie the baseball police?
  20. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 10:47 PM) Would people just forget about the damn Cy Young already. He's not gonna sniff it. He would have to throw 4 complete game shut-outs to get his era that low. I just want him to lead us to the playoffs. Not to mention Santana faltering in September would be like Jermaine Dye faltering in a clutch situation . . . ain't gonna happen.
  21. I really don't see how Derek Jeter should even be considered for MVP. IMO it's a 3 man race; Dye, Morneau and Mauer.
  22. According to SportsCenter, with Chin Mang Wang (SP?) winning his 16th game today he now must be included in the Cy Young race along side guys like Santana, Halladay and Verlander. ERA WHIP BAA K BB Santana: 3.01 1.02 .221 196 39 Halladay: 3.12 1.08 .251 111 26 Verlander:3.42 1.27 .258 106 48 Wang: 3.66 1.29 .271 62 49 Looks like a 2 man race to me and frankly it's not even that close. Also, there was no mention of Jon Garland and his 16 wins, you'd figure since ESPN appearantly values wins so much that they'd include a guy who's only 1 of 3 guys in baseball to reach the 16 win plateau this season.
  23. Well, you're basically wrong on both fronts. Not really sure why you mentioned the Cubs, as far as I know they've never signed a draft pick with a clause in his contract that he must be called up by September after being drafted earlier in the season. It has nothing to do with being thin pitching wise, they HAVE to call him up.
  24. QUOTE(WCSox @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 12:56 PM) Crawford would also require that KW deal B-Mac. No thanks. I don't think that the Sox are going to get much in terms of prospects for Garcia and Pods (especially considering how much the Sox owe Freddy next season). And if the D-Rays didn't think that Ervin Santana was enough for Crawford, Crawford-for-Sox-prospects is highly unlikely. Garcia is only due $10M next year which really isn't all that much for a guy of Freddy's "stature" they'll get a very good package of prospects from an NL team, I'm certain of it.
