  1. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) Then again, neither could Dye. I'm not saying the two are even close, but it's just something. Maybe a change of scenery would do him some good. He'd look mighty nice in LF. Rocco's situation is much different than Dye's, just look at the nature of the injuries. Dye's have mainly been freak injuries, following balls off his shin has been his main problem as well as the spiderbite fiasco. Rocco on the other hand relies on his speed, without that he's nothing, he missed 230 games over 2 seasons because of a knee injury and since comming back this year in July he's missed games because of a hip injury and is fighting a nagging hamstring even now. I'm not really sure how a change of scenery is going to keep him from f***ing up his legs any further.
  2. QUOTE(beautox @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 10:40 AM) What would you give up to get either of these? Broadway + _______ & maybe _________? For Crawford? Anything they want, they can take anyone from the minor league system and any prospects the Sox pickup after dealing Garcia and Podsednik. Crawford would turn the Sox into an offensive jugernaut. For Baldelli, much less, I love him and all and he'd be a great fit in LF for the team but I'm not going to give them anything near what I'd give up for Crawford. Rocco just has not proven he can stay healthy.
  3. QUOTE(beautox @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 09:52 AM) What about your boy Rocco, he appears to finally be healthy, do you think the D-Rays would move him? I think it comes down to the trade value of the 2 players. The Devil Rays when you look at it have a pretty damn good young offense going for them right now but have absolutely NO pitching outside of Kazmir, Crawford if traded this offseason could bring in 1 or 2 frontline pitching prospects, Rocco on the other hand would bring them considerably less in any deal they make, he still has amazing upside considering his athletic ability but he has missed 230 games over the past 2 seasons due to injury. So if they're going to trade 1 of the 2 they'd probably be better suited to move Crawford and get some real value for him instead of trading Rocco when his value is at its all-time lowest. That said, if they're willing to move Rocco, I'd be all for swinging a deal for him.
  4. I can not cheer for David Wells or any team he plays for. I'll take Lance Broadway the rest of the way as opposed to 2 s***ty starts from Wells followed by an extended DL stint and constant b****ing.
  5. And once again it comes back around to the failures of the top of the order. Just imagine how unstoppable this offense would be with a real leadoff hitter. Watching Crawford yesterday, I'm not sure there's a better fit for this team out there than that man.
  6. QUOTE(qwerty @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 02:36 AM) This is arguable... short does not have as much power on the team as a center field. It's basically a tossup between CF and SS, you have to go on a team by team basis I guess. Taking into consideration the type of park they play in (big OF, Comerica) and what kind of pitching staff they have (sinkerballers, flyball pitchers). On some teams the SS position could be more important and on others it would be CF.
  7. I was watching the game live when it happened, that ball was hit crazy hard by Vlad. Soriano was incredibly lucky here.
  8. QUOTE(greg775 @ Aug 30, 2006 -> 12:21 AM) Brian is a likeable player cause of his defense. Don't you all agree we could use an upgrade, though, at ss next year? Of course Juan could get hot in the postseason if we make it that far and emerge as a hero again, but as of now, he's a bit annoying with his average THAT low I think. One thing about Uribe though, he plays the most important defensive position on the field, can you name me a single player in all of baseball who plays better defense than him at shortstop?
  9. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 29, 2006 -> 12:08 AM) which really sucks when there are like 5 people I can think of off the top of my head who are more deserving Dye Thome Ortiz Morneau Thomas And if Jim Leyland pinch hit 1 time this year, he would be a better candiate that Jeter too Even though he's on a s*** team, I'd still put Hafner ahead of Jeter as well.
  10. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 06:45 PM) I don't have anything against Ortiz, but no one will ever convince me that he's a better hitter than Manny. Manny may very well be the greatest run producer of all time. So god damn true, Manny is one of the all-time greatest offensive players, David Ortiz will never be anywhere near the level of Manny Ramirez. I just can't believe what I hear from some people, one f***stick (can't remember who it was) on TV actually had the balls to say Manny Ramirez wouldn't be anywhere near the player he is now without David Ortiz.
  11. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 03:42 PM) This offense goes from really good to a friggin' juggernaut if Pods comes out of his coma. Just imagine this team with one of Sizemore, Crawford or Reyes leading off. You give this team an elite leadoff hitter and they're unstoppable.
  12. QUOTE(Wealz @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 11:59 AM) He probably does have a say, but he isn't accountable for who is on the team. Kenny Williams must think the pros of Mackowiak playing center outweigh the cons or he would have found someone else to share time with Anderson. Why does anyone need to share time with Anderson? Perhaps Williams feels Anderson is the type of player who can play everyday for you and Mackowiak is capable of playing CF once a week, I certainly believe this to be true.
  13. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) This is what he is talking about, and its his plans for next year not this year. They either want Brian to develop into a power guy or a top of the lineup guy. Guillen likes Brians speed and wants to use it more. BRIAN'S SONG: Guillen has speed in mind for center fielder Brian Anderson's future if Anderson is willing. Guillen would like Anderson to play winter ball after the season with the intent of improving either his power-hitting ability or his speed. ''I told him, 'You have to work this winter on being a power hitter or a speed guy,''' Guillen said. ''I think he's the fastest guy we have. He has to pick because you can't be successful in both.'' Anderson's speed has been a plus defensively, but his hitting woes (.227) have limited his chances to steal bases. He has four in nine attempts. Just off the top of my head: Bobby Abreu Carlos Beltran Vlad Guerrero Alfonso Soriano Barry Bonds Steve Finley Reggie Sanders Sammy Sosa Ray Lankford Raul Mondesi Alex Rodriguez Derek Jeter Craig Biggio Johnny Damon Mike Cameron
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 11:23 AM) You're stretching when you say Mack is a CF. Podsednik has played a lot of CF, in fact, I think I would play Pods in CF and Mack in LF if Ozzie insisted they both play together. Mack at least is a good LF, much better than Pods. Pods may not be good in CF, but its hard to imagine he would be any worse than Mack. Take it from someone who has seen Podsednik play a lot a CF, Scott is MUCH worse than Mackowiak in center and that is saying something. Just think of how bad Podsednik is in LF, now double the amount of ground he has to cover and imagine just how far Scott would have to throw from the right center field gap just to hit the cutoffman.
  15. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 10:58 AM) KW said he acquired Alomar because the coaches specifically asked for him. But you think that if the coaches insisted that a cf was needed, he'd tell them to shove it? C'mon... Either the coaches think Mack is a decent cf (ho ho ho), or they don't think cf defense is important. Either way, they're wrong. Precisely.
  16. QUOTE(Wealz @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) The GM is responsible for the make up of the roster. The Sox have preached equality between the GM and Head Coach when it comes to player personel since the day Guillen was hired, this ideal can not be abandoned now that it appears the team is shorthanded.
  17. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 10:40 AM) Kap, the issue is that same Sunday lineup costing us too many games before September. Mack's the whipping boy around here, but it seems like he costs us a run every friggin game cause he's been misplaced. It's not his fault, but he's not in a position to succeed. We have a left fielder who's doing a hell of a lot worse than our centerfielder. However, Mack doesn't start there....ever. Exactly, resting guys for September is all fine and good but if it's costing you a good amount of games in April-August to the point where you don't even hold a playoff spot going into September then all that rest your starters got for the first 5 months may have been all for naught.
  18. QUOTE(Wealz @ Aug 28, 2006 -> 10:45 AM) It's a difficult task to develop players in a pennant race, but that's exactly what Guillen has done with Anderson. The problem is he's the ONLY CF'er on the roster. That isn't Guillen's fault. You really don't know that. For all you know, KW was ready to pull the trigger and acquire a 4th OF but Ozzie nixed it saying he likes his team the way it is or KW went to Ozzie and asked him what he thought his team was missing and Ozzie like Konerko said this team was good enough. There's just too many factors involved to completely exonerate Ozzie.
  19. To me it seems Mackowiak is the starting CF for this team right now and BA is the spot starter.
  20. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Aug 27, 2006 -> 02:32 PM) From the life-is-not-fair department: The Phils trade Vicente Padilla in the offseason, yet still somehow lead the majors in getting hbp. That can be explained fairly easily, they did trade Padilla but at the same time they did acquire Aaron Rowand who has been hit by 18 pitches this year which is 2nd in all of baseball behind Ricky Weeks and his 19.
  21. Can we get an MVP chant going?
  22. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 09:01 PM) I would not be upset if the White Sox were to replace their manager some time in the near future. ^^^
  23. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 06:05 PM) yeah. this game wont be played tonight. Actually, it looks like it's just a small system passing over the city moving W -> E. There might be a delay but I definately think they'll be playing this game.
  24. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 25, 2006 -> 05:46 PM) I think all you guys are ridiculously optimistic. He's due for at least a bad outing and that would pretty much throw that 2 to 2.5 runs theory out the window. I just hope he pitches like he has and goes 6-7 innings giving up roughly 3 runs per. That would basically be the 3 ER per game scenerio. Over his final 7 outings I do see the numbers averaging out to one of those 5 scenerios.
