QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) I think Drew is the only person to think that. Your hamstrings are worked the same play any OF position. There are many times in CF in which you have to run hard all the way back or all the way forward. In fact, I would say playing CF takes more toll on your legs and hammy's than playing the other OF positions if anything. I guess since JD Drew says it, it must be true. I also agree with Mr. Chairman's thoughts on Aaron Rowand. HA!

Griffey hit his 27th HR today. He's 2-2 thus far.

I'm gonna say today's #1 an #2 hitters. I'm also gonna say that I don't care.

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 07:00 PM) FWIW, Borchard is not in the lineup tonight for the Knights. You know what that means! He has a day off? It would be aweful hard to trade him and now that Anderson is up with the big club there's no way Borch would be called up as well. Maybe Borch threw a hissy fit when Anderson was called up over him and now he's getting the night off, though that doesn't sound like something he would do. It's probably just a night off, don't think too much of it.

QUOTE(Mr. Chairman @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 06:48 PM) Ok, Aaron went from having some of the worst instincts from a CF in the game (2002) to being a Gold Glover? Seriously? Reality is such, Aaron bringsthe following to the table: good jumps, average closing speed, average at best hands, above average arm strenght but mediocre accuracy. He has improved and now is a good def. outfielder. But not a Gold Glover - there is nothing he is great at. Watch Hunter, Andruw, younger Edmonds play and you'll see what I am talking about. Griffey? Could still be a decent corner OF, but, man, is it going to be scary watching him dive/bang, knowing that some 40 Million are on the line. If the Sox did land Griffey, he wouldn't play hardly any corner OF at all. Maybe a little but you wouldn't see more than 4 games out there for him. He'd play DH exclusively and occationally play some CF. LF/RF wrench the s*** out of an OFers legs, that's why guys like J.D. Drew want to play exclusively in CF, the angle you have to take in the corner OF puts too much torque on your legs.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 06:44 PM) AJ has 17 homers The Sox's Fab 5 currently have 735 IP Freddy Leads the team with 114 K's. I'll give you the Pierz prediction, that was nice but MB, FG and JG combined for '04 had nearly 700 IP. So you'd only need for the Cubans to pick up around 340. So 190 for Contreras and 150 for El Duque would about get it done. Who else would lead the team in strikeouts? Contreras doesn't pitch enough innings to rack up enough Ks. -
QUOTE(sayitaintso @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) Would this be a possibility. Say we do get KGJ in a trade and then we have an extra outfielder. Anderson would go down when pods gets back, and we could get rid of timo somehow and KGJ would take timos place. Timo's here for the long haul, don't get excited.

The Royal have now lost 15 straight games. IMO that is not good.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) ...plus, the dude's middle name is Nikola. Go back in history and find a disappointing major-leaguer with the middle name, Nikola...not even one. So what you're saying is that Paul Spoljaric was a good major league pitcher? I'd call him a servicable reliever at best. I'ts called 0wnag3 get to know it.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) For those not familiar with the newly-anointed Shaggy, here's our guy! Got a good feeling about this one...maybe he'll provide at least a little spark to give these guys a kick in the ass. But, to think a rookie call-up will be the offensive savior is a bit much. I'm really looking forward to seeing him play.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 05:59 PM) They're tied with us in wins, but 3 games behind in the loss column. In other words...they do have a shot to be the first team to 80 wins, but you're correct we'd still have the better record. Which means this thread makes 0 sense, seeing how we'd still have the better record.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 06:11 PM) man, just look at kalapses avatar and remember he hates you too .306 BA, 22 SB, 55 RBI, 81 R, only 38 SO, 6 3B. He was quite good his rookie year. His 13.8 AB/SO was the best in the league. Not to mention the fact that he was only 21 years old.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) 89 wins. Division winner Beaten in the first round by the Yanks, 4 games. And as far as my bold prediction is concerned...I predict we score around 900 runs. I think the offense clicks, and is what wins us the division. The pitching disappoints most(with only 1 starter below a 4.00 ERA in Buehrle), and the bullpen is 3rd fiddle in the division, behind Minny and Cleveland. Shingo gets hit a little more, but is still solid, Marte is better, Vizcaino is good enough, but Hermanson and Politte struggle to keep their ERAs below 4.00. Adkins makes the team as a long reliever and puts up an ERA in the 4.50 range with a WHiP in the 1.40-1.50 range. How wrong can you be. Shame on you Wite. -
I'm pretty sure the Cardinals record has absolutly no effect on the Sox at all. So why should I care?

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 05:29 PM) In reality, what young position players have been up here? Willie Harris got every chance in the world to win a starting job. Pablo Ozuna has gotten ample playing time for the defensive liability that he is everywhere except SS. Ross Gload was backing up a 40 HR 110 RBI All-Star without the ability to play the OF, so he had no where to play. Who else is out there that didn't get a chance as a young position player? Pedro Lopez started a few games when he was called up earlier in the year.

We better keep Konerko, his numbers are just as...
Kalapse replied to maggsmaggs's topic in Pale Hose Talk
About Pauly not being clutch because he doesn't hit walkoff homeruns.... It may not be a walkoff but I seem to remember an ultra struggling Paul Konerko pinch hitting in the 10th inning of a game in July of '03 against the AL Central leading Twins and their stud closer Eddie Gaurdado. The Sox were down by one in this game and there was noone on, Konerko couldn't buy a f***ing hit the whole damn season yet he was pinch hitting in the 10th inning in a big game. He hit an absolute missle out over the fence in left center field tying the game and sending it to the 11th later followed by a big Frank walkoff. That was clutch. I also seem to remember another game against the Cubs a few years back, the Sox were down 8-0 and the great Kerry Wood was shutting the Sox down. However Paul Konerko came up with a home run early in the game to cut the deficit and then was hit in the head in his next AB. But comming up against Kerry Wood with the Sox ralling and a couple guys on base Konerko launched one to left field giving the Sox the lead for good as they went on to win that game against the hated Cubbies. That in fact was also clutch. They weren't walkoffs but they are two of my favorite moments in White Sox history. Oh Yeah and that Konerko bat flip leads you into Thunderstruck during the opening montage before games. -
QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) I'm sick of timo...what the f***?!? He speaks 3 languages and appearantly he's clutch.

QUOTE(spataro51 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:38 PM) AT ONE POINT I WAS THINKING THAT THIS DEAL WAS FOR SURE FOR THE MOST PART GOING TO HAPPEN. BUT I AM NOW SECOND GUESSING MYSELF AND THINKING THAT WE ARE GETTING OUR HOPES UP FOR NOTHING. IN MY OPINION IF THE SOX REALLY WANTED HIM THEY WOULD OF CLAIMED HIM.... I KNOW THAT MEANS THE SOX WOULD OF GOT STUCK WITH THE WHOLE CONTRACT AND ALL THAT STUFF. BUT AS IT LOOKS NOW THEIR IS TO MUCH OBSTACLES IN THE WAY, BECAUSE THE PEOPLE WE SEND TO CINCI ALSO HAS TO CLEAR WAIVERS AND REALLY ANY ONE OF OUR PROSPECTS THAT ARE GOOD WILL BE CLAIMED.......BUT I STILL HAVE HOPE. OUT OF ALL THE PLAYERS MENTIONED IN A POSSIBLE GRIFFEY TRADE (YOUNG, ROGO, LOWER TIER SPECT) THE ONLY PLAYER THAT WOULD HAVE TO CLEAR WAIVERS WOULD BE ROGO. YOUNG AND THE OTHER GUY AREN'T ON THE 40 THERE FOR DO NOT HAVE TO CLEAR WAIVERS. ANYONE THE SOX TRADE FOR GRIFFEY WILL NOT BE ON THE 40 MAN ROSTER.

QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 04:19 PM) By the Way Edmunds way above Rowand as well. Edmonds has also won 7 gold gloves. What exactly is your point. You're comparing Aaron Rowand to some of the best defensive players of all time. Hey you know who else is better than Rowand, Willie Mays.
-
QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) I guess... hail the all Mighty Rowand. Give me Young or Anderson for the future... you can have Rowand. That's an idiotic statement. You'd rather have a 21 year old AA CF who has proven s***, hell this is his first real good year in the minors, over Aaron Rowand who has proven to be an above average player on the major league level. A lot of people feel as though Brian Anderson will turn out to be an average to abover average (at best) player in the bigs. Once agian Brian Anderson has not proven anything yet except that he can play in the minors. You take the proven ML talent, you don't bank on a minor leaguer.

QUOTE(SpringfieldFan @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) You know, behind the sharp facial features and "spazzy" (for lack of a better term) expressions, there is something there, I agree. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) Griffey will never play RF or LF. It's a matter of the throws to the infield. In RF and LF you're throwing at much more of an angle than you are from CF. I honestly don't know how this matters, but I've read repeatedly that it somehow puts more stress on your legs to throw from the corner outfield spots. That's the last thing you want with a guy like Griffey, with a history of leg problems. That's the resign why J.D. Drew now play CF exclusively. His legs can't take the strain from playing the corner OF positions.
