QUOTE(VAfan @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 09:56 PM) I've been on the fence about the Griffey trade, for a few reasons. 1. Money allocation. This year we took Carlos Lee's contract and spread the money over Pods, El Duque, and Pierzynski. Lee v. Pods straight up is a bad deal, but Lee for Pods, El Duque, and Pierzynski is the reason we're #1 right now. Next year, do we spend $12.5 million on a DH? Or should we take that money and sign AJ Burnett for the same 3 years we have a declining, injury-prone Griffey? I'd say the money is better invested in top pitching. 2. Chris Young. Could be better in each of the years 2007-13 (when he's ours) than Griffey will be in any year 2005-08. 3. Is Griffey the missing piece this year? In 1999, Griffey laid an egg in the ALDS. 2 for 15, with 1 BB. That was when he was good. I also remember Frank Thomas in 2000, a year he should have been MVP. On the other hand. 1. We need lefty power. We haven't had a lefty middle-of-the-order guy in who knows how long. And all of our likely AL playoff opponents will not have faced our team with Griffey in it. So it is going to give them a completely different look. 2. It's only money. If we make a serious playoff run, I believe JR will increase the payroll enough to keep Griffey AND pursue Burnett. 3. Chris Young could be great, but how many times has a Sox team won 100 games and had a shot to win the World Series? Only once. In 1917. The last time we won the World Series (or any playoff series). So what is hanging up this deal? I think it is money. I bet if the Sox took on all of the non-deferred portion of Griffey's deal, that the Reds would say okay. They might even accept something other than Chris Young if we'd pay all of Griffey's $12.5 million/year through 2008. But then we'd have to give Griffey a carrot to say yes to the deal too, because he wants Spring Training in Florida where I guess he lives. To come to Tucson, we'll have to sweeten the deal. On balance, I'm now in favor of it. I think Pods going down has made the difference. Indeed, I actually like this Pods-less lineup better than any we've used this year. Iguchi 2B Rowand CF Griffey LF Konerko 1B Everett DH Dye RF Pierzynski C Crede 3B Uribe SS Make the move Kenny. On the fence? You've hated the Griffey rumors more than anyone. Now all of a sudden you want him? what about the great Chris Young who will be better than Griffey in 4 years?

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Apparently turning from the corners of the field causes the problems. I recall this as the rational why Drew wanted to play center for LA and have Bradley in the corner Bingo, which is why Grif would play CF and DH and not much LF/RF.

We better keep Konerko, his numbers are just as...

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 12:54 PM) I dont know much about Tracy. I know a lot of people here like him more than Overbay and with Connor Jackson coming up for them, I doubt they will be needing him much. I understand he plays 3B as well. Tracy can play 3B (not very good), he can play 1B and right now they have him in RF. They don't want to unload him especially now that they have signed Tony Clark to an extension so he'll be getting a lot of time at 1B so Conor Jackson is out of a job, seeing how he is brutal defensively. You could get either Tracey or Jackson with a nice package, which would be less costly than Overbay. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) I'd throw up. I'd rather have Chad Tracy. ^^^ 2 of the Sox top 3 prospects for Overbay is way too steep, especially unloading a guy like BMac. -

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) Completely slipped my mind. You are indeed correct. Any idea of what they would want. My guess would be a SP or a top SP prospect and maybe a IF prospect. No IF prospects, they are absolutely loaded. They'd probably want a top SP prospect and I've heard a lot of talk of them wanting a top CF prospect, so a guy like Brian Anderson. -
Let me know when they make a hybrid with a top speed over 130 mph and make it look like a car.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 14, 2005 -> 12:38 PM) ^^^^ This is what I am hoping for. I would do a sign & trade of PK for Overbay... The only reason the Brewers would trade Overbay would be because they have Prince Fielder (a 1B prospect who they think will be better than Overbay) in the minors. They don't need another 1Bman, they'd have NO interest in Konerko. -
QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 01:29 PM) You have to give up something to get something. Young won't be contributing to this team. Griffey would. Not everyone is the Pittsburgh Pirates. They won't take complete crap in return for a very nice player. There are players equal to or better than C. Young in terms of in org. rankings that could be traded and people would not mind as much. Brian Anderson is not complete crap, in fact he's a more sure thing than Chris Young is and if Anderson was traded I'm sure there's a lot of people that wouldn't mind as much as seeing Young go.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 01:45 AM) Very solid? I don't think there are five starting pitchers in the game who I'd rather have and only Johan Santana, both 26, would I rather start a team with. Would you disagree? If I'm starting a team there's a few guys I might take over Buehrle, Roy Halladay (28), Roy Oswalt (27), Jake Peavy (24), and Johan Santana (26). Buehrle is a very good pitcher but I don't know if I'd take him over a couple of those guys.

QUOTE(knightni @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 11:22 AM) You don't think Baj or Tracey would make it through waivers? Ehh.. they might not. But, they aren't exactly BMAC or Jenks. There's a ton of teams that would claim a guy like Sean Tracey especially, someone that throws that hard and is as young as he is would get claimed by a lot of teams. Also Baj who is still only 28, very cheap and kicking ass at AAA, he may not look to be a Major league relief pitcher for the White Sox but I'm sure someone would claim him and put him in their bullpen. Putting in a claim for a guy like Baj or Tracey is litteraly like no risk all reward.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 01:53 PM) I rest my case... Actually i have 4 different versions, the one I originally posted was a rushed version. The others are much more refined. I didn't change anything because you said to. And the filter on Arow looks bad ass, I don't know WTF you're talking about.

QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 05:31 AM) Kalapse... that sig is just f***ng marvelous. any complaint SF1 has is out of jealousy IMO. I haven't seen anything from him that rivals that marvelous work. Well done. And yet I didn't change anything that he said should be changed. Hmm.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 06:20 PM) I will say this for the last time. IMO Ken Griffey Jr. will NOT be claimed by any team. He will clear waivers, that does not mean he'll come to the Sox, all it means is that the Reds will have full power to trade him to what ever team they wish if they want. :D
-
I just want to know who the #1 advocate of the "Yankees will not claim Ken Griffey Jr." thinking was? Hmm I remember one person saying numerous times that Ken Griffey Jr. would clear waivers with ease. Well actually there were a few people who said this. No doubt in my mind ever that Griffey would clear waivers.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 02:30 AM) Case in point, Alfonso Soriano has an OPS of .864. Lyle Overbay has an OPS of .843. The thing is Soriano has an OBP of .324 and a SLG of .540, while Overbay has an OBP of .374 and a SLG of .469. Even though Soriano plays in a position where it's harder to find good players, everyone hear would probably take Overbay every time. I'd put Overbay at 2B, he'd play better defensively than Soriano.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 12:57 AM) and since we're on a TV kick.... after 2 episodes, 'Starved' is my favorite comedy on the tube. I thought both episodes or It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia were f***ing hillarious. Starved IMO is right behind it. FX has turned into a very good channel with Nip/Tuck, The Shield, Rescue Me, Starved and It's always Sunny in Philadelphia. I havn't seen an episode of Over There yet but I'm sure it's good.

Now way in hell is OPS overrated for batters. The only way it's overrated is by who you're using it for, it's a great tool for judging middle of the order guys who are supposed to get on base and hit for power. It doen't work for leadoff hitters and other role type player such as a #2 hitter (like Iguchi) Most Overrated for hitters: BA Most Overrated for Pitchers: tie Ks and Ws

QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 06:09 PM) They improve your eye sight...?? Where did you get that from? The cornea is not a muscle. It can't be improved by "working out"... I was talking about HGH, even though I didn't mention it in my post, which was stupid. Human Growth Hormone builds muscle and strengthens connective tissue, especially when taken in combination with steroids or insulin. Which leads to improved eyesight, especially at night.

QUOTE(GBlum27 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) According to Skip Bayless the hidden ball trick is bush league. He went on to say good players like Jeter would never try it. Matt Williams and George Brett have also pulled off the hidden ball trick in recent years, would Skip call them good players?

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 03:31 PM) I think there's a few Yankee fans who can tell you. Actually they're more infatuated with Aron Rowland whoever the f*** that is. They had never even heard of Aaron Rowand 2 weeks ago and now they love him. And why do they love him? Because he single handedly dominated a 3 game series with stellar defense.

Bullinger is 40 years old and hasn't played in the big leagues since '98. I doubt this is a move to try and help the big league club.
