  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) you forgot to add "And Gammons then reports that the Red Sox are now interested in acquiring Griffey as insurance, and Griffey never had a problem playing in Boston. 2 AA prospects probably will get it done." I was gonna put that in there two but thought the post would be too long winded with it.
  2. QUOTE(SnB @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 10:44 AM) any nfl 2k fans, or hell any football fans in general, watch this video. It's a tribute to 2k, but has some really really really cool moments in it. http://www.ocgn.com/features/movies/misc/N...GN_original.wmv Gotta love the Safety to end the Bears game Vs. the Titans. Mark Columbo had a big field goal block that saved the game. The defense showed just how good they are in that game.
  3. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) I love when ESPN's columnists and reporters contradict each other at the same time in opposite chats. I'm waiting for the Steve Phillips chat where he says that the trade has already gone through and are just waiting to announce the trade to the media. And at the same time the Peter Gammons chat which says all talks between the White Sox and Reds have broken off and that there will not be a trade.
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 07:58 AM) nite? ahhhh we're the fans, not the players. I think we can have fun and let the team worry. I'm pretty certain that none of us will have to grab a glove and play left. But, I will bite. How exactly are you worrying about Boston? Are you working the worry beads? Reading all the Boston papers? Lighting candles? I just don't know how to worry about Boston in a constructive manner. I thank you Tex. I had just about the same thing all typed out and pretty looking when my DSL went down for the night. Why should I worry about Clevelan or Boston? I'm not on the Sox, I don't have any affect on the team what so ever so if I'm all hot and bothered about the Indians catching the Sox what's that gonna do? It's going to make me miserable for no particular reason, it's not going to make the player play harder or the team win. Let the players worry about all that, I'll watch the games and enjoy their success.
  5. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 01:00 PM) ESPN.com chat... That's pretty f***ing stupid basing the production of a leadoff hitter on his OPS. That is the one stat that does not apply to the #1 hitter in your lineup. Podsednik is not expected to have a high Slug.
  6. QUOTE(Be Good @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) Fans have no impact at the very least, but at least should help. Read the first post. Please :banghead
  7. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) I think he meant Rogo That makes no sense (Rad, Rogo?) but that's about the only person it could be. Who the hell else in the org. even has a name close to Rad?
  8. I seriously don't want Mike Sweeney. He'll make $12.5M in '06 and '07. I Don't want to pay a 32 year old DH with a horribly bad back (which constantly flares up) $25M over the next two seasons. He can't stay healthy at all 100 games out of him is not worth that kind of money. People b**** about Griffey's hamstring injury, Sweeney's back is 1000X worse.
  9. The #1 reason you won't be seeing any of the "young, talented outfielders" in our system called up in september is.... THEY'RE NOT ON THE 40. You can only call up players on the 40 man roster to play in September. The only ones you'd be seeing are Anderson and Borchard. Sweeney (who's not even close to MLB ready), Young and Owens are all in AA and not on the 40 man roster. You're going to be seeing Timo for the rest of the year, get over it, it's not gonna change.
  10. You don't just name a captain (Jeter, V-tek, Sweeney) a player first becomes a captain by their attitude and the way they handle things in the clubhouse. If the players look up to Konerko and see him as a captain then he is a captian. We don't really know what goes on in the clubhouse, we only get small samples from the media, which a lot of the time mean nothing.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:48 AM) You told me we were going to trade for Aubrey, in fact you just about guaranteed it to me. Yeah, and how did that turn out.
  12. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:38 AM) What about the Indians. Karma's a b****. If we were to pull a choke job, I'd like to see what all these posters say then who are making these threads. It's not over til it's over. :sleep You can say the same for the Twins catching us, it's only a 2 game difference between the two . I'm not worried. We've still got a nice double digit lead in the division (12, 14, 18.5, 36.5) not to mention the biggest divisional lead in baseball.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:40 AM) I say no. Why? Because it's to damn good to be true, stupid reason I know but I just can't see it happening. I'm gonna give this about as much of a chance of happening as the Aubrey Huff trade.
  14. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 02:39 AM) "Part of our problem, the fans.." that is the heading... Read his post. You're taking the title out of context. The title should say something like part of our problem as fans. You should really read the thread starters first post instead of just going by the title of the thread.
  15. QUOTE(wsox08 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 01:14 AM) The sox don't lose because of the fans... He never said they did.
  16. QUOTE(Jake @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) I think part of our pessimism on this board is because our team wins, yes, but we don't look good on paper. Our lineup on paper looks absolutely flat, and no matter what there's no number for clutch hitting so we can't really know if that is true or not. Our staff looks decent on paper, although some things have inflated lately and our back end doesn't look stellar on paper. Our bullpen on paper actually does look good on paper although I personally don't have too much trust in it at times. But overall, i think its the fact that on paper we appear to be overachieving, and our keys to winning often can't be measured with numbers. No stat for team chemisty, no Ozzie Factor stat, no true stat for clutch hitting, no stat for judgement of fly balls, a lot of our claims to fame this year aren't exactly easy to measure. So yes, my friends, I can understand your pessimism, when our play seems to match our look on paper. 8
  17. FX is by far my favorite channel. Just about every show I Tivo is on FX. They have turned themselves into a quality network.
  18. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 10:50 PM) Rowand needs to throw better in order to win a Gold Glove. If you look at guys like Hunter and Edmonds in CF, they have incredibly accurate arms in the outfield. Rowand's arm has been disappointing this season. That's the #1 thing he has to work on, he's got the above average arm but his accuracy has been pretty bad this year.
  19. QUOTE(Soxpranos @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 10:42 PM) Sometime in the next 3 years... Just by that statement... he isnt close to a gold Glove? Give me Anderson the future CF of the White Sox or Young. Once again it's f***ing retarded to want a player like Anderson or Young over Rowand but I already said that. I said the next 3 years because GGs are usually won by popularity along with excellent defense, this year people realized just how good he is, he'll gain a s*** load of GG votes but isn't popular enough yet to win the award. IMO next year he'll have a great shot at winning one, seeing how people will be watching for him to make the plays that he has been making instead of him going unnoticed. He's GG caliber this year just not well known enough yet.
  20. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) I'm just happy he's not in the AL Central or on the Cubs. It would be nice if he was tucked away in the NL West never to see daylight. We'll have to face him once or twice a year, it's not going to be fun.
  21. QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) Ozzie puts Timo in instead of Anderson. FU Ozzie :fyou Anderson got into Chicago just before the game. There was no way he was going to start today.
  22. QUOTE(Brian @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 10:34 PM) Didn't he have two good starts before this vs. good teams. Why can't we get kids like this? He faced the Tigers in his ML debut and his last start was against the Tigers. He the best pitching prospect in baseball and possibly the best since Doc Gooden, which means noone gets pitching prospects like this.
  23. You might want to trim around it.
  24. Please don't compare Felix hernandez to Brandon McCarthy. That's not fair to either player.
  25. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 15, 2005 -> 10:19 PM) Ha what? I didn't say I wanted A-Row out of the lineup or out of CF. He's very solid in the OF, but he is not a gold glover IMHO. He's made nice plays for 3 games against the Yanks. He doesn't do that type of stuff every game which seperates good defensive OF's from GG'ers. Yeah, you also agreed with a troll but that's cool too. My stance on Rowand defensively is well documented, the guy will win a GG sometime in the next 3 years, I've watched every game this year plus last year and a lot of them in person. He gets amazing jumps on the ball and has above average closing speed. I don't want to see him diving all over the place in the outfield because a lot of the time it means you got a s*** jump or totally misjudged a ball. Rowand gets to a lot of balls and makes them look easy that others would be diving for. He also has an above average arm but with average to below average accuracy, which is really something he has to work on. I don't slurp Sox players simply because they play for the Sox, hell I don't even like that many players on the team at this point in time. I have seen Rowand play a lot of CF over the past two seasons along with a little RF last year, he's made amazing strides and is only going to get better.
