  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) Lift and pull mode already. Baker is pitching low and away, to avoid the homers. And our guys are trying to hit it through the baggy. Nice approach guys.
  2. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 03:55 PM) I just hope that Anderson is in there early if they take a lead. 5th or 6th is not to early. Anderson is so far down the depth chart. If they were to replace Griffey, it will be with a pinch runner ( Owens ) who will take over in CF. The only way Anderson plays is if he gets traded.
  3. Griffey in CF? AJ in the 2 hole? I wonder how many times it took Ozzie before he realized the Iron was hot as a child. I am surprised he has a hand.
  4. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 07:30 PM) I hope Guillen adopts a similar stance and allows other people to talk about the Twins if questions about them are asked. If anyone really does believe Gardenhire disrespected us with his comments, just think -- where has our Twins love got us recently? If there was one thing I could tell management about this series, from players to Hawk/DJ, is PLEASE scale back on the compliments, the nicknames, the supposed invincibility of the Twins at home and geniousness of Gardenhire. It's sickening. I'm glad not to have read anything this morning in the papers. I fully expected it. Its simple. Every ground ball should be run out like a track meet. Every at bat should be focused on, ever pitch needs to be concentrated on. If you are going into second to break up a double play, plant the dude into the ground. If you are coming around 3rd, plant Mauer into the ground. If you are pitching, throw inside. Back that f***er off the plate. Its your plate. Throw strikes, take the game to them. Show no mercy. Jump all over them. The best thing would be to jump all over them in game one. Take the life from them.
  5. QUOTE (almagest @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 10:27 AM) My point in mentioning Windows hosts wasn't that they raise the malware threat level for a Mac, it's that a non-Windows system can often relay Windows malware to machines, especially on a LAN where security is generally more lax. I also don't disagree that Macs *are* targeted for attack a lot more now than a couple years ago, due to the rising popularity of the OS. That being said, there's still a minuscule amount of malware for non-Windows machines. I just don't see the need for an unwieldy, slow, sometimes invasive antivirus system on a *nix machine, when intelligent usage, a properly configured firewall, Firefox browser extensions (primarily Noscript), and userspace management tools such as jailcell and SELinux can stop or limit threats before they're even on your system. Granted most users won't know about the last thing I mentioned, but the first three are as easy to find and configure as any antivirus software. I think you over estimate the capabilities of the average user. It might be Unix under the hood, but when it comes down to it these are users under the controls, not sysadmins. They are not thinking security and safety when they browse the internet.
  6. QUOTE (almagest @ Sep 22, 2008 -> 12:09 AM) I don't really think you need an antivirus program for your Mac, since it's Unix-based. No real virus problems to worry about there -- unless you have Windows machines on your network, in which case I'd just recommend running antivirus programs on those. Some things I would recommend: Not to pick on you, but how exactly does having a Mac change the need for anti-virus. And better yet, how does the addition of a windows based hosts on your network raise or change the threat level for your Mac system. Apple being on an Intel architecture and becoming more popular makes it a more appealing target. The view, and it not just you, that the mac is not a target for malware is wide spread. Making it a very attractive target. Linux has malware, hell just take a road down malware and virus history and you see the first worms on the Internet were based on exploits in sendmail on Unix systems. If its plugged into the internet or a network and especially if you have a browser or other applications on it you are at risk.
  7. QUOTE (gosox41 @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 10:27 PM) Why not stick BA in CF while Wise stays in left? Right now BA is more productive offensivle then Swish and Griffey on Astroturf makes me nervous. Griffey isn't exactly hitting the cover off the ball either. At least Anderso gives you better D and he can lay down a bunt more often then those two guys. Heck, after watching the Sox flail away the last 2 games, I'd consider moving Owens in CF. We've already proven we can't beat Minny in Minny with our power hitting line up. To play 2 struggling hitters who can't bunt, run, or play great defense in that stadium is kind of ridiculous IMHO. I think it's something Ozzie should seriously consider for the Minnesota series. It's only one line up change. While we're at it, I'd consider DHing Griffey i/o Thome as Thome has struggled a lot as of late. That being said, if Swish or Griffey were hitting better, I would never be posting this. But since they're not, the Sox still have 6 other hitters in the line up who can flail away whilese swinging for the fences. Anderson should be starting right now. Griffey and Swish provide nothing offensively right now. The extra defense in the dome is worth it. Play smart, defense before guys who cant hit and cant play defense.
  8. We should take 2 out of 3. We are the better team. Time to end this.
  9. Hopefully we can wrap this up in the dumpdome so we can get our playoff ducks in a row. With our starting pitching we can win a short series. People love Tampa, but we played them pretty tough at their dome and those games could of swung our way. We will be the underdog, and the pressure will be off when we clinch and get to play the Rays. then its showtime.
  10. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 01:15 PM) Yes, we know the offense sucks right now. You don't have to make a post about it every 2 or 3 minutes for us to know that. I stop with the offense, and you can stop with the THROW A SHUTOUT JOHNNY ITS THE ONLY WAY WE CAN WIN, crap.
  11. Duckworth against the AAA opposition. 5-11 4.75 ERA
  12. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) Better than relying on these guys to get 2 or 3 hits in a row. Its Bandon Duckworth. Minor leaguers hit him.
  13. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 01:13 PM) Cmon Johnny, throw that shutout! I wonder what our starting pitchers think about our wonderful offense. If they say just hit a tad below mediocre in April and May this would be clinched already. They took the first 2 months off, and now look like they are taking this month off.
  14. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) It was a hit and run. Well that can't be. You dont hit and run with a hitter who has a hard time making contact regularly. Even Ozzie wouldnt do that.
  15. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 01:10 PM) How long before this team realizes they can't steal bases??? The manager hasn't figured out his team cant but yet. Our manager thinks that his softball team built with linebackers is a set of dainty guys like Pierre and company.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) Did we honestly look any better against DET and KC at this point 3 years ago? I remember watching the likes of Blum and Borchard hopelessly flail away...more frustrating than this. I find more frustation of Thome, Dye and Konerko flail away that 2 scrubs.
  17. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 02:00 PM) Does anyone think opposing pitchers actually look forward to starts against this team? I honestly think they might. The last time we had a good offense was the first half of 06. 05 was pretty much a bad offense who got hot in the playoffs. We have had the same thing going for the last 8 years. Lift and pull, score 10 one game, barely get hits for the next week. When you look at the end of the year we score our runs, but its not balanced. Its a combination of our GM picking up these guys, and our hitting philosophy.
  18. 2 hits through 4, and he just Kd 2 of our power core. Someone needs to find another job after this season, because preparing, instructing and motivating hitters is not it.
  19. Anybody who tries to make the Duckworth performance into anything else but our offense sucking needs to get a clue. This is not just a pitcher having a great game, this is an offense trying to show how terrible it truly is.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 12:43 PM) Twins likely did what they had to, and split the series. the lift and pull softball team better start to hit this crappy pitcher.
  21. QUOTE (jphat007 @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) Tampa is gonna shut it down, happy to be in first, and then they are jsut gonna get rocked by the Angels in the playoffs on the road. Today is a hangover game. Trust me they will get back to business tomorrow.
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 21, 2008 -> 12:36 PM) Another impeccable at bat by Swisher. He needs to be benched. He has had the entire year to get hot. Our offense makes any crappy pitcher look good.
  23. QUOTE (beautox @ Sep 20, 2008 -> 11:53 PM) Just wondering if anyone had any tips short cuts or things of that nature for someone just getting into Mac; some friends have already directed me to the following websites. macupdate.com versiontracker.com apple.com/downloads thanks in advance for any info Heres a good place to start. Office 2008 http://mactopia.com for your Microsoft integration needs. Isquint to convert different video formats to your IPod The Free StuffIt expander Handbrake to burn movies. Toast Titanium for that Roxio commercial DVD burning hook. RadioLover takes internet radio streams and splits them into Mp3s for IPod Format. TrueCrypt for creating encrypted virtual disks. I use this to create encrypted virtual disks for my banking and personal needs. A combo cipher keeps the bad guys out. Here is a program everyone should run. KeePass. Here is the Mac version KeePassX. If you have multiple passwords, instead of writing them down. Putting them in a text file, or fogetting them use this. One password to unlock an encrypted database of your passwords. Passwords only work, if you only know about them. You will need to run antivirus. There are less threats to Mac because of the target base, but there are bad guys out there. Here are a couple of products. Give them a try and pick the one that fits your budget the best. Symantec for the Mac Virus Barrier by Intego
  24. QUOTE (Jake @ Sep 19, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) I've been really considering getting a mac and for some reason can only finds arguments for Macintosh. So what are the key advantages for PCs? I always hear compatibility issues, but since now Macs now come with the ability to run both platforms, that isn't necessarily viable any longer. The compatibility issues are minimal. You can use a virtual machine program like Parallels or VmWare in conjunction with Bootcamp and get both OSs to run independently as well as in parallel with each other. Office 2008 for Mac works well in a corporate environment and works with Office 2007. Entourage works well in Exchange 2007 environments. I am also using the OCS client from Microsoft on my Mac and can video conference, VOIP call, as well as my PC brethren.
