QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) No I mean he said that was the Sox minor league philosophy. I am talking about that as well. -

QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 08:10 PM) Oh, speaking of which, when the Sox played the Twins, Ron Coomer said that the minor league philosphy for hitting was to make contact out front and keep your head down. I don't remember anyone posting that and I forgot until right now so...there. Ours involves clearing your hips with a dip in the back shoulder and the hardest swing you have ever seen. -

QUOTE (sox1844 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 08:09 PM) He didn't get lucky, he ran his ass off. He had men on 1st and 2nd and no outs. Pull the ball on the ground is what the opposition wants. He hit a slow chopper. Him running his ass off made the play close. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 08:06 PM) Bunt, OC! He gets the job done, but I would like to see OC less pull happy. When he was with the Angels he would go to right field with 2 strikes. This year he is pull happy. -

QUOTE (letsgoarow @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 07:54 PM) id rather hawk announce by himself Plesac was the same moron that was wearing the towel around his neck making fun of the sox pitchers during the wrigley series, because their necks hurt. It was classless and here I see this same mope announcing on TV for the sox. They could of found someone else. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 07:45 PM) Let's just ignore the fact PK even bats. Whats with the sox hitters this year throwing their ass out on fastballs on the inner half, like the big ass moving away will distract the ump from the fact that the pitch is over the plate. Our 2 strike approach is pathetic. Swing as hard as possible, or pull a Pods. -
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 08:06 AM) I meant to say he was never really a power pitcher for us. Through in the early 90's, used a lot offspead pitches and so on. But yes you were right Freddy was a power pitcher back with Seattle. Freddy was a power pitcher for us. He didn't throw 95, but it was 93 with sink to it. His last year here his arm was dead.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 11:05 AM) Here's my question...what do the doctors think? I'm really not surprised Joe's having back issues again this year, it's still been only 1 year or so since he actually had the surgery, and within 6 months or so after the surgery he was already pushing himself to get back to baseball. Think of people who try to rush back from Tommy John or any other major surgery, they tend to come back but then wind up feeling a little more pain then having to shut themselves down to heal a bit. The question is...is Crede's back problem now just related to his back stiffening up after all the work he's loaded on it trying to rehab, or is it actually continuing to degenerate? The question is, how long has his back hurt this year. This is a guy on the verge of a big payday. I would say that for that kind of payday, people could deal with a lot of discomfort. To me the drop off from his hot start with the bat, and the amount of errors on simple plays is a bit concerning. Look at how he works. He can make the spectacular plays. The ones he reacts to. The ones that take time, and allow him to think cause him issues this year. These are the types where he has to bend over quite a bit or follow through on the throw. Sailing a throw and not following through is something that screams the back. If you look at his fielding issues, there were he has to bend over with the ball in front of him. It takes him a bit to do that. Normally you bend you knees, level to the ball and make the play. He is trying to bend over without bending his knees. I dont know if a doctor will get near him until he signs his FA deal.

QUOTE (thedoctor @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 09:33 AM) does anyone really think that fields is going to be the key to a deal that gets us a good starting pitcher? if sox fans are aware he's been sucky and hasn't solved the hole in his swing, i'd imagine other gms are aware as well. You can't teach that type of raw power, so he will have value. Not the value to get an SP, but something will come back our way. Other teams might think that a change of venue, a different message might help him make better contact. How many physically talented pitchers have we fixed up to rehab here. Now the key is, to move the asset before he burns all of his value like Mr. Borchard.

If you want to point your finger at something as the reason why we are in the situation we are in. Its not our record post ASB, its not the pitching tiring, hell its not even the injuries. It was when our pitching staff put up top shelf numbers at the beginning of the season and we were bouncing around as a 500 team because our offense decided to take a few months off. The stress and the wear and tear of our pitchers having to pitch perfect, because god forbid if the offense could scratch a few runs across the board. Its when we have 8 shutouts on our offense by early June. Pitchers have a few dead arms periods over the season. But we should have 5 or more wins than we have now. If we had a mediocre offense early in the season we wouldnt be in this situation. Now we are trying to survive injuries, and some tired arms at this point. We should of never have been in this situation.

Of course the Suntimes handles it like its the end of the world.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 04:57 PM) I think a lot of people would riot if the Sox started spending their #1 picks on low ceiling singles hitters like the Twins sort of have done lately. This year was the first time in a long time that baseball players have been selected instead of "athletes". Its not our drafting policy that irritates me, its how we instruct them. We have people that come up, that have no clue how to execute fundamental baseball. Thats on their prep. The talent of the Twins organization is not better, its their instruction. They get a single message. And every level builds on that. Its not singles hitters. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 04:44 PM) Or a healthy Liriano... Or Torii Hunter, Radke, Jacque Jones, Denny Hocking, Koskie, Guzman, Rivas, David Ortiz, Matt LeCroy, Jason Tyner, Lew Ford, etc. Again their minor league instruction is great. Everyone learns how to play Twins type baseball. They learn how to hit, to run, to play solid defense and to play smart baseball. We seem to draft football players, who we challenge to crush the ball as far as humanly possible. -

This team is very much like the 2004 team. One night we hit all sorts of bombs, and blow the team out. The next game we get 4 hit. Pull only team, that can score only via the homer. Bad defense as well. Played the Twins about the same late in the season as well. -
