Glad we have this kid getting destroyed in a pennant race.
-
So we get 2 hits in the first inning. What inning will it be before we get our 3rd hit.

QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2008 -> 05:46 PM) He's one pitcher you have to say screw the pitch count when you face him. As Hawk is saying, our approach is all wrong against him. You have to be aggressive and hit those pitches that he throws to get ahead in the count. Our strategy against pitchers at times is horses***. We get a rookie making his major league debut and he is wild. So what is our strategy, swing early in the count. Now we have a guy who pours strikes, with a lot of fastballs early in the count. And what do we do, we take 2. This is dumb.

Happy Birthday Tex.

Alexei should be our leadoff hitter with Ocab behind him. -

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) Is Wakefield pitching well? As a knuckleball thrower you'd think he'd have more balls than only 17 at 80 pitches. Well against a patient team that takes pitches I am sure. But against our team, the bat swings if the ball is anywhere near the zone. -

I think if Gavin adds the cutter to keep the lefties honest next year, he can really pitch top shelf. -

Anytime the offense wants to start scoring runs, we would be appreciative. -

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) would be nice if gavin had an out pitch right here My guess is like all whitesox pitchers, he will develop a cutter in ST next year. -

How come all of the RedSox young hitters try to hit line drives. Its like they have been prepared well. Maybe we should have our minor league instruction use on of theirs as a mentor. -

Our offense needs to get going. We can't have it go into a slumber at this point of the year. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 12:25 PM) Feels like Gavin is pitching on borrowed time. Hope he proves me wrong. As nervous as he makes you feel. He has been pitching heads over some of our proven vets down the stretch here. He has been pretty solid all year long. The biggest thing is surviving the first couple of innings until he gets the feel for the curve. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 12:20 PM) No! Swing for fence everytime! Kenny talks a good game on the grinder theory crap. On how we will model ourselves after the hard playing twins. Outside of Q, AJ and Ramirez, all the rest are plodding pull hitters who seem to try and hit homeruns with every AB. I would like to see two more line drive types on the team. Maybe Getz at 2nd next year until Beckham came come up. But we need some diversity on offense. -

The old theory on hitting a knuckleball. If its high, let it fly If its low, let it go. -
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 09:37 PM) ------ R. Sweeney reached on fielder's choice, B. Crosby to third, E. Brown to second, E. Brown and B. Crosby scored on pitcher J. Nathan's throwing error Wow. I have to see that! It was a bunt as well.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 10:22 PM) his 86-87mph isn't fooling anyone anymore, though i'm sure there are other issues w/ him right now as well For buerhle to be sucessful, he has to drive his cutter in on the hands on the right handers. When he goes away away away like he did tonight, he is going to get destroyed. When he pounds in with the cutter, then goes away with the change he can handle anyone.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 08:16 PM) I'll say it...Crede and Griffey are mediocre players now. Only the sox would have Griffey in CF. Even the Reds didnt have him sauntering around CF in Cincy.
-
QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) Tell ya what...who the hell pitched...Bowden? Just who the F is that?!? I know Ozzie's trying to give his guys the benefit of the doubt...but to tell ya the truth....OCab was right...this team has NO KILLER INSTINCT. Not with the passive likes of Crede, Paulie, Griffey, Thome. Not saying they're bad players...just no fire. I really think it's time for Ozzie to go off again. F these guys little feelers....nut up...pitchers included. How much better would our team be, if Kenny got over his crush and picked up Kotsay for CF instead of Griffey.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) So Richard is pitching now? Does this mean Danks is going to pitch on Monday? Maybe we can just surrender early and start Broadway. There is no reason on earth a team in a pennant race should have to start Broadway or Richard.
-
Wow is all I can say on that baserunning by AJ. Grounder to the 3rd baseman, and he runs on contact from 2nd and meets the 3rd baseman for an easy tag out. I guess the team wants to golf in October.
-
QUOTE (BearSox @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 07:40 PM) I still think it was a stupid move to give Buehrle that contract... He isn't an ace like White Sox fans make him out to be. It he pitched like he did last year, sure the contact makes sense. This year, the minute something goes wrong. He starts to groove it.
-
Mark needs to stop throwing batting practice. What a frustrating year. He pitched well last year, when money was on the line.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 07:32 PM) The Sox are not a good situational hitting team. They haven't bee all season. It's just the HR's aren't there right now. We need more line drive types to sprinkle around our power core. Its okay to have a power team, but over the years we have had a myopic approach with the same type of power hitters. When you have diversity in the lineup, you rarely have pitcher shut down an offense completely unless they are special. We get shut down, by the pitcher picking an approach and setting it on autopilot. The makeup of our offense is flawed.
