QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 07:29 PM) Ugh, this pitcher is freaking terrible. Our approach is worse.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 07:27 PM) Time to tie this game while this mediocre starter is still in the game. Long swing by Quentin. Hawk saying he is trying to hit the ball on the Pike.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 06:13 PM) Will we ever hit a changeup? 90% of our hitters are power guys, who cheat on the fastball trying to pull it for a homer. We are built to be destroyed by a changeup. This is the reason Johan, Radke, and other changeup pitchers have dominated us. If you can spot the ball low and away, and throw a change or curveball you can shut our team down. Low and away for a pull team is hard to homer. And that is how we score runs. Hopefully this offseason we pick up more line drive types to sprinkle around the team. Also moving Ramirez up in the order would help.
-
Pathetic. Nice way to drive in those runs in a pennant race.
-
Here is another obvious pitch, everytime our hitters get 3-1 on a pitcher they pretty much throw a changeup everytime. Again the only people that dont know that is our hitters. Even Hawk and DJ are calling it. For the love of god.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2008 -> 06:09 PM) Put him in the freaking 2nd spot He can bunt, he is fast, and can make contact with 2 strikes. Its obvious, however we will have to wait until next year.
-
Alexei with a good AB there.
-
3 pitches 2 outs. Good strategy guys.
-
Another first pitch out. This strategy sucks.
-
Before the game Steve Stone was talking about our guys being patient, and taking pitches as we have a rookie making his major league debut. Farmer said, so what do you think is going to happen. Well, they will probably swing at the first pitch and be aggressive, but hopefully I am wrong. Whomever comes up with our strategy against rookie pitchers needs to find another job because we have the worst approach against kids, its almost like we are the rookies.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 29, 2008 -> 08:23 PM) Uh oh Discuss Its the nature of our team. Some of it can be fixed. Some of this needs to be fixed with new personnel in the offseason. We are not a good defensive team and we give the opposition too many outs. Good teams seem to turn those extra outs into runs. We score runs by hitting the ball over the fence. We do not string hits along, and we have a hard time driving in runs outside of the long ball. Good teams keep the ball the park and usually have good pitching and defense. Our relief lately has had a problem throwing strikes and getting ahead of hitters. this results in a lot of hitters counts and free bases. Bad teams dont take advantage of these flaws as much as good teams. Our defense needs to get its head out of its ass and start to catch the ball and stop giving extra outs. Our offense needs to figure out how to drive in runs outside of hitting the ball over the fence. Getting those runners in from 2nd with a base hit score the same as the dramatic home run does with no one on base. Not every swing must result in a power stroke. Take the ball up the middle, to right. These are what good teams do. Our relief pitchers need to throw strike one. The minute they start doing this they will be effective.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 12:13 AM) I know what you're thinking, isn't this cocksucker banned? Well, I was for about 4 years and now I'm back. I'm quite a bit older now than I was then and I think I'm more mature. I'm not that big of a problem anymore. Oh sweet jesus, chat isnt safe anymore. Welcome back Duke. Glad to see you back man.

Happy Birthday to one of the original chat crew members. Happy Birthday Slav.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 27, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) I remember you from there too. I was much younger then and spent a ton of time on the computer. I had over 5K posts there before I came here. Those boards used to be a lot of fun, even with the trolls that would come over. I remember having actualy baseball chat with a Royals fan for an entire year through that board a year when they were decent. I also remember how you got your name; with the long running MB>KW and KW>MB debate that was on both Chicago boards seemingly all the time haha The original ESPNers were a good group. I was over there as well. Hawkiconk, Rdivaldi, Mike, and a few others were over in the ESPN world. At lot of these guys went to other boards, fell off the end of the universe, or arrived here. ESPN wasnt bad, and we had a lot of good banter with some of the other boards. Ofx over on the ESPN Twins board, Imann over on the ESPN Royals board were a few I got along with quite a bit. One particular anti-fan and his nonsense and the endless trolls trashing the board were the reasons I found myself here.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 03:42 PM) Did Swisher really expect a 3-2 fastball? Just a terrible at bat, as he was trying to hit a homer. The twins shorten their swing on 2 strikes when they have a man on. We swing as hard as humanly possible. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) It sucks to think that all of their runs have been due to bad defensive plays today. If Valentin didnt kick the ball at SS we would be okay. Maybe he can Valenstasche one for us later. -

Maddon pulls his players back, talks what he wants to do when they are in the on deck circle. Interesting. I thought players didn't take direciton when they came up to the majors. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 02:09 PM) How many hittable 3-2 changeups are we going to have to see from Howell (both in Kansas City and now in Tampa Bay) before we realize it's coming and hit it hard? You would think that changeups and pitches low and away wouldnt surpise our hitters. Yet it seems that the only one who hasn't read the scouting report on our hitters is our team. -

Its about time for this team to remove their heads from their asses. When KW hired Guillen, we were told about grinder ball, which is pitching and defense and playing the game hard and the right way. Years later, we have the same softball types lumbering all over the field, including a replica of Carl in CF. We play crappy defense, and our bullpen has been soft lately. And the twins are playing sound fundamental baseball and are in the drivers seat right now. Its time for this team to man up, and play. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) Man, our defense has to be the worst in the major leagues, along with the bullpen...from around the first or second week of July on. I think only Texas has more errors. The kick the ball defense needs to go. -
Winning 2 out of 3 in Oakland has been great. Keep it up when we get home. 70 wins and having 10 over the Tigers is nice. Now we can fight it out with the Twinks the rest of the way.

QUOTE (soxbearsbulls @ Aug 17, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) I don't post anywhere, but I read everywhere. I used to read you guys every single day and you were great. This board was incredibly active in 05, 06, 07. But what has happend in 08??? I also read whitesoxinteractive and they are like 10 times as big now. It used to be about even. Their post game threads normally have double digit pages, here sometimes there isent even a post game thread! This used to be the place to be for sox fans like me, i'm just dissapointed to see how far its fallen. The guy with 3 posts since 2006 is giving critique on how we dont have enough posts after a game, well thats rich.
