Royals vs Sox...Part Trois - Sweep Edition
southsideirish71 replied to nitetrain8601's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 14, 2008 -> 09:20 AM) Anyone know what Felix Diaz is doing these days? I always liked him for whatever reason. Opposing hitters liked him as well. -
Getz is looking good as a utility guy. Puts the bat on the ball, hits line drives and plays good D.

Royals Vs Sox - Part Deux - 7:11pm CSN

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 13, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) Yes Balta, but he's a good fielder. He'll get it back. What about a player who is on the DL for back soreness, coming off back surgery and having the worst year defensively springs confidence in you Greg. If healthy I agree, he is a good fielder. I dont think he is healthy. -
I would have to say Thome. I never thought he would bounce back. I never thought for a million years that we would be in the position we are this late in the season. I thought it was a battle for 4th place.

Russia/Georgia and the Presidential race
southsideirish71 replied to Balta1701's topic in The Filibuster
We should avoid shooting wars with countries with GPS guided thermonuclear weapons. A 10 megaton airburst over our city would put a crimp in my plans on living a long healthy life. -
I hope this taught Ozzie one thing. Please pull Griffey from CF in a close game after the 6th inning.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 08:31 PM) There's just no excuse to have a pitcher with a 5.52 ERA coming into a 1 run game in the 8th inning with 50 games left in a pennant race. Logic went out the window, when Ozzie decided to trot General Soreness out in CF, with a young kid with a no hitter, in the 7th inning in a 1-0 game. None of these scream 38 year old corner OF in CF.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox15 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) Why is Griffey still in? The magic 8 ball keeps lying to Ozzie.
-
LOL. Griffey out in CF late in a game is dumb.
-
The risk of keeping Griffey out in CF in a 2-1 game better result in him hitting a jack.
-
QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 08:25 PM) Barring something amazing we're outta first...our SP wheels a 2 hitter and we lose ground. Damn Its Deja Vu from the first 2 months. We should be 5 games up now.
-
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 08:23 PM) Wow that outside corner is being called hard. The Joe Mays attack model. Our lack of offensive execution in games where we dont deposit the ball over the fence is a joke. If we dont hit home runs, we cant win.

Sweet Jesus Web Gem.

I guess down the cock isnt a strike anymore.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 11, 2008 -> 08:09 PM) Very likely that run will score. Show some leadership OC and call off Uribe! Uribe called him off. Ala Detroit last year, when he waved everyone off then let the ball bounce in front of him. And that was with Danks pitching.
-
Can someone wake up the manager, and tell him that the 38 year old corner outfield in CF needs to be pulled for defense.
-
We better have a defensive replacement in CF starting next inning Griff should have 6 innings in CF. If its a one run game, you take him out. He is not providing enough offense right now to state that he should be in CF late in games.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) even more telling, the end of this interview indicates that Poreda himself believes he still has a long while before he's ML ready. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/21338-c...er-aaron-poreda I am sold now. He said he wasn't ready, in the first week of May, when he wasnt in AA yet. Yup. Broadway and his home runs is a much better solution.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:49 AM) Well if he starts and sucks than he's only bad once a week, instead of 3 times as a RP. I heard this before, Danny Wright/Felix Diaz/Arnie Munoz and other associated crap that we trotted out as the 5th starter. They only lost once a week as well. How did that work for our playoff hunt.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:49 AM) I would agree with you if I thought he could be great this year, but I dont think it's his time. Though I only base this on parallel situations from other teams at other times. I suppose there's a chance he could be the exception. You realize that AA to the Majors is kind of a normal move for teams top prospects. AAA, especially the IL is where people stockpile aging vets and AAAA guys to sprinkle across other prospects who aren't good enough yet to make the majors. AA is still where the talent is.
-
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 11:37 AM) It sure doesnt help. Poreda trade could be the #1 way one day to make the team better instantly. It could be next trade deadline. You'll want the leverage then, for sure. The last time I checked we are in the midst of a playoff run, this year. Not next year. Who knows next year what position we will be in. This years Indians and last years WhiteSox should of taught you that.

I hope that Broadway isnt allowed to face any lefties. Scenario pointed out in another thread that he struggles against lefties. Well that isnt a joke. In 74 innings, he has given up 17 dongs to lefties. With a .317 BAA against.
-
QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 10:27 AM) I'm excited to see Getz play. I would rather see Broadway start. You want to see Broadway start, why. Do you like the sound of hard crushed balls flying through the thick August night.
-
QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 10, 2008 -> 10:09 AM) I expect we'll see Broadway get a start against Kansas City. For several reasons it makes alot of sense. Sure because pitching in late September with 2 dead teams translates to this year in a pennant race with a team that there is bad blood with. Hopefully the kids in the outfield are warned of the flying objects leaving the ballpark.
-
Imagine Masset, but worse. Thats broadway. He will be a flesh colored batting Tee down the road. AAA hitters are rocking him, what exactly do you think the major leaguers will do. He has a problem giving up the home run, so playing at the Cell in August is going to help that. Bring up Poreda if you are going to the well. At least his ball sinks.
