  1. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 08:55 PM) I'd call shotgun but I am already abroad the Broadway Bus. Can I ride in the Egbert sidecar? I amongst others were trying to steer clear of the Broadway Bus, and the McCullouch MiniCooper when they were paraded as the number 1 picks.
  2. Does he really believe that this is a championship level team?
  3. If Uribe is on this team, he is your starting 2nd baseman. Remember they are going for it, and the vet will always play over the rook when you are going for it.
  4. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) And for the record, ... Greg Walker is still our hitting coach. Swish should work on his uppercut finish to his golf swing at the cell. Hit the concourse contests.
  5. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:53 PM) honestly when you are playing in US cellular field why the hell wouldn't you build a power team? Let me preface this by saying I dont want Owens in the lineup. The bantam weight speed guy is one of the annoyances of this team. But you build a team around balance. Building a team that has power in the middle of the lineup, followed up by a lot of guys who can hit doubles would play very well at this park. Having a large amount of high power, high strikeout guys make for some really nice 11 run games followed up by a 0 run, 2 hit, 12 strikeout corpseball effort where everyone is trying to hit the majestic home run when we need a single late in the game to drive in the guy from second. The wind from the bats missing the ball, and the players making the ooh I just missed it face when they fall to one knee after striking out on a low and away pitch makes me shudder. Dont worry, with Walk and the park Swish will hit himself some home runs.
  6. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:39 PM) We can keep talking about the safe pick, ect, ect. but the entire scouting department has been turned over, and Pordea was far from a "safe pick". He is what everyone was calling for, in a high upside, high risk type pitcher. Let's see what happens in the draft. The arm is more of a risk, but when a high school pitcher of the pedigree of Porcello falls into your lap with a prospect rotten system we have you select him. That was the best available talent at pitching at that point. We didnt pick him because Porcello required a larger bonus than Poreda. When this team starts to pay overslot for talent then I will breathe a bit easier. But the history of this team is playing within the slotting rules.
  7. QUOTE(IowaSoxFan @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:33 PM) Isnt that the KF philosophy every year? Broadway, McCullough, Poreda...? They like the college guys because they have no leverage in negoitiations, it is either sign or play independent ball for a percentage of the money. Fields and Borchard being the exceptions to that rule, but their leverage was another sport, not going back into the draft. With the number 8 pick, the guys should have absolute huge upside. If we can get a steal for an overslot, you go for it. This is where you invest some money. If we go for the "easy sign" or the "polished yet not a lot of upside ala Broadway" then we are f***ed for a while. The last time we were in this position, we were selecting Ventura, Thomas, Fernandez, McDowell not a Broadway or of his ilk.
  8. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) He is the #8 pick in June. Jordan Danks???
  9. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) Can we get some f***ing pitching into this organization please? Remember Nick, lift and pull. That wont be a problem here.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 01:42 PM) We have a Rick Porcello? Can you point him out to me? Wait till we draft the fire and passion part II Jordan Danks with a huge reach at number 8 because Kenny wanted a Jordan Danks, not a guy like Jordan Danks....the Jordan Danks.
  11. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 01:33 PM) Alright, I'm going to stop b****ing about the deal cause I hate to be that guy, so I'll change the subject a bit: Anybody know how good Swish is in cf? I would lead Swish off, and then have Ocab hit second. It gets Ozzie his lefty, righty, lefty, righty mix he loves so much.
  12. I feel for the next GM that has to pick up the pieces of Kenny's train wreck. This year will be painful, but next year starts the ultimate suck as these contracts come off the books and we have nothing, and I mean nothing at all to take over for them in the minors. The Kane County Cougars have more talent on their team now than we have in our minor league system. Wait till attendance drops and they start replacing the 11 million dollar contracts with more manageable just off injury guys and they complain that Attendance has really hurt our money situation. I cant give you a dollar if I only have 50 cents. We will be the KC Royals for the next few years now. f***!!!
  13. QUOTE(BureauEmployee171 @ Jan 2, 2008 -> 06:57 PM) We, the people, started a WAR and threw the English tea into the water over taxes that were MUCH LESS than the taxes we have now (and thats taking all inflation, etc. into account). Why do we simply put up with it now? The Boston Tea Party was over Taxation without representation, not taxation itself.
  14. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 28, 2007 -> 11:08 AM) OK so, first, she was shot. Then, the Paks said no, she tied of shrapnel wounds. Now the are saying she died when she fell and hit her head on a lever in the car. Ugh. That last one just doesn't even seem believable to me. Here is a new camera angle. Looks like the reports of the head injuries, or the shrapnel wounds are bulls***. The slow mo at the end is pretty interesting. MSNBC.com video of the Bhutto murder.
  15. The wife has to work on New Years eve and day. So its having a mock midnight at 8pm for my son with white grape juice. After that its xbox360 and gaming adventures and beer for the rest of the evening.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2007 -> 11:08 AM) Alexis Christine born 12-27 at 12:27 am 7 pounds even, 19 inches even. Things are a little interesting after the fact though. She had a couple of episodes where she quit breathing during the first night, add to that a couple of other little problems, so she got transfered from the hospital in Michigan City to a place in Valparaiso that has a neonatal intensive care unit just to be safe. So far there have been no major problems reported back from the tests, so keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Other than that she is a healthy and happy little girl. http://boringtheworld.blogspot.com/ Follow the link for a picture.... She is a cutie Mike, congrats to you and the rest of the SS2k5 fam. Its amazing how tough these little babies can be. It will be nice when you get her home so she can be fawned over properly. What a great way to end the year.
  17. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Dec 29, 2007 -> 04:31 PM) It doesn't seem to compute. Reaction, location of pitches, the type of pitch, the field, who is bating, etc, all come into play for a fielder. I think spin might actually be in there somewhere Well in all my years of playing baseball I never heard one coach or player discuss spin as part of the fielding skill set. I have heard a few complain on a ball that got away, that it knuckled, or spun away. But never heard that they attacked a ball based on the spin, especially at the corners. They usually use to base their attack pattern based on the height of the bounce, and the speed of the ball going through the infield. If it was crushed, it was a reaction. But I have never heard anyone say, that when the ball came off the bat that the ball was spinning counterclockwise and it would skid at a 5 degree angle and get a kick off the lip base on that. Here is a clue, all balls that are hit on the ground spin. All of them. Its the bounce and how the ball skids through the grass is how they attack the ball. Now knowing if the grass is cut or long, how the lines play(will a ball stay fair or foul) thats part of the scouting report. Where to position the player is called by the coaching staff.
  18. QUOTE(shipps @ Dec 29, 2007 -> 10:31 AM) Reading the ball off the bat is completely diffrent then seeing it out of a pitchers hand. And it isnt something you can teach, you either have that ability or you dont.It is a matter of inches and mila seconds at 3rd base and that ability is very important. So hitting a moving 95 mph fastball from 60 feet 6 inches is something you learn, but catching a ground ball 90 feet away is pure instinct. Wow I learn something new everyday.
  19. QUOTE(BureauEmployee171 @ Dec 28, 2007 -> 06:28 PM) Anyone who DOES NOT go to your primary and vote Ron Paul is making an enormous mistake. You want money? There will be no Federal Taxes. You want out of international disasters - he is 100% for neutrality. He is a Constitutionist. Electing Ron Paul would be the start of a golden age in America. Elect him for 8 years, and we'd reap the benefits for 30 years thereafter. Price of milk would be NEARLY the same in 8 years as it is now. Inflation would level off dramatically. The price of gas would drop SIGNIFICANTLY because there would be no Federal Tax placed on it? Why does he not get more press? Because he's actually a Libertarian and god knows - Republicans & Democrats can't let another rooster in the hen house. . Okay I will bite. How exactly does a government function without tax revenue. Do we still have an FBI. Do we have a military. The idea of isolationist is not something that I want to be part of. Do you really think that if we just sit here and stick our head in the sand that the bad guys are going to go away. It hasn't worked in the past with countries. Neutral countries have been invaded before, and some of them have been drawn into war no matter what they have tried. Do you think that Paul and his isolationist theories will stop the chinese government from cyber attacks against our government and industrial companies. Do you think that the Islamic extremists will give us a pass because we have tucked tail and have run home. Unless Paul's plan involves the imposition of Sharia law and that every citizen converts to islam I still think a certain part of the world might want to hurt us.
  20. QUOTE(shipps @ Dec 28, 2007 -> 03:32 PM) I take what you say into account and it makes some sense but then you keep on bringing this mitt thing up and it makes me laugh. Well they had him change the glove to what Josh calls an infant sized glove. Why would that be. Was it just to f*** with him. If glove type doesn't matter then why exactly do they have specialty gloves for outfielders, infielders, first basemen, and catchers.
  21. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Dec 28, 2007 -> 02:04 PM) Heck no. Jesus turned water into wine and wine is a central component in the Christian mass. Christian Conservatives are just wound too tight for their own good. The irish consider drinking to be very heavenly and the path to the truth. The only reason Jesus made water into wine was that Guinness wasn't invented yet.
  22. QUOTE(shipps @ Dec 28, 2007 -> 03:05 PM) Iam being serious. You have to be able to pick up the spin on the ball or the way the ball is hit off the bat.Its hard to teach someone the eye for that. Fielders don't pick up spin patterns, the look for hops and how the hop plays. The only way you can tell that there is a special spin to a ball hit is if its a slow slow bouncing ball. All balls that you hit spin. You know what will help Josh, a coach yelling keep your ass down, a crap load of ground balls and a new mitt.
  23. QUOTE(shipps @ Dec 28, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) His hands arent soft, his reaction time is slow, and if he does dive and pick one he doesnt have the ability to smoothly get in a solid throwing position to make consistent accurate throws.I can tell each play takes 100% concentration on Josh's part from beginning to end.But he will be a hell of an offensive 3rd basemen put up atleast 30hrs so why be so critical about his defense? His hands are fine. He has no problem making throws. His problem has been the decision to either come in on the ball or to stay back on it. The in between hops are what has killed him over. When he comes in on the ball he should stay back on, he gets the in between hop, or the hop coming off the lip the infield. When he sits back on the ball he should charge, he can again get the in between hop but he also has to rush the throw. His throws for the most part are strong and accurate. What he needs to keep in mind, is to keep his butt down on the ball, and to recognize the difference between the ball you charge and the ball you sit back on. A smaller mitt will help with some of the issue of him finding the ears on the ball when he needs to catch and chuck. It will also force him to have better mechanics on his fielding.
  24. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Dec 28, 2007 -> 11:24 AM) I would like to sign Joe Crede to along term extension Call Joe up and tell him to suspend logic for a bit. Tell him that coming off of his back surgery he shouldn't take a contract for max years or max money he should immediately sign a deal in his least favorable(coming off back surgery) negotiation stance. Tell him to fire his agent, and take a sweetheart home deal because he likes the sox. If he does that, he is a white sox player. But in reality one picks Boras because one wants financial stability for his family because as Joe Crede has found out, scary injuries can threaten ones career. If I was a MLB player, I would call Boras in a second. The guy gets you max money, and max years. Joe Crede didnt pick Boras's name out of a hat.
  25. QUOTE(shipps @ Dec 28, 2007 -> 09:57 AM) Iam not disputing the fact that Joe is gone,I just do not ever want to see Fields as our everyday 3rd basemen. He is a 1st basemen or a left fielder. The sox need to find a diffrent succesor to Joe and they could possibly get one if they wait to mid year to trade Crede. Thanks for your astute assessment that Josh cannot be a 3rd baseman. Lets pretend that he will never get better and is done as a fielder. He kicked the ball a few times, he is done. Can never get better. In the history of baseball people have never been a poor fielder and have become a decent fielder. Lets forget the fact that he was for whatever reason playing an infield position with an outfielders mitt.
