I will play devils advocate here for a second. If we do go to Universal Health care, and we are paying for insurance through taxes. Then should smoking and other choice vices be outlawed. Everyone knows the medical issues with certain choice vices, so why should the community as a whole have to pay for a choice that someone made on their own. In fact, lets take it further. Should you be forced to keep in some sort of shape. I mean why should the community pay for you because you decide that the hearattack menu at McDonalds and sitting on your couch is the best way to go then come in at Age 45 needing a quad bypass. How about when you are born, we do a genetic map of you to pre-determine what your diseases and tendancies will be so we can dictate a program. See where this is going.

2007 Post ASB White Sox Catch-All Thread
southsideirish71 replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Why Deluca+ is a moron. Maybe Chris should consult the Billy Beane guide to stealing, or the stay on first and never steal manual. Just because a guy doesnt steal in Oakland, doesnt mean he is slow. The only slow one here, is Chris. Why Chris Deluca is not so smart. -
QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 06:34 PM) I'm just wondering what evidence/ data you base this on. Well I can simply base it on the 18 diabetics in my extended family outside the united states, and the 11 that are here in the US. The treatment plans and the medicine we get here is above and beyond what they get there.

Lots of good stuff in this thread. Diet is your first line of defense. Cut out the crap in your diet and work on your portions. Add greens to your dinner, like a salad. This will help your body process the food better as well as help fill you up. Make sure you eat slowly. When you shove the food in quickly, your brain doesnt have enough time to trip the "I am full" switch so you wind up piling on too much food. Cut out pop if you can and add water to it. Try and eliminate candy and sweets as much. Add fruit and vegetables to your diet. Pretty obvious stuff. Taking the time to stretch. It gets the blood pumping a bit, and prepares your body for exercise. Running is the best exercise for weight loss. Any cardio that is high impact, raises your heart rate is good. The best thing is to extend the cardio for longer than 20-25 minutes if possible. This way your body mines the long term reserves of fat instead of burning just the glucose in your body. The best thing is that when you finish, your body is still mining for a period of time afterwards. Stairs at your place, running up and down is a good idea as well. Make sure your neighbors know what you are doing before they think you went mad. You can do crunches until you are blue in the face. The key is different ab exercises and to alternate them. Crunches, bicycles, side crunches, frog flys, etc. A small ball like a bosu ball or a small exercise ball is a key as well. You can then extend your ab excercises into the negative and stretch out as well. You should do a google search on different ab exercises, and then alternate them so you are not working the same muscle group everyday. Pushups and dips. Dips using a chair can help you.

Congrats to Goose for this. However one of my favorite Whitesox moments was Rockin Robin Ventura crushing a slam off of gossage with 2 strikes and 2 outs to win it. Nothing more exciting than a Walk off slam. The place was electric, and the place shook. The place never hit that type of frenzy until I saw Konkero hit a slam in the 05 series. I was lucky enough to be at both events. Its the beauty of the game of baseball. You have memories of certain moments that are frozen in your memory forever.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Jan 9, 2008 -> 10:16 AM) Who to believe, orioleshangout or mlbtraderumors...... Well lets ask the guy from Angelswin.com who stated that Konerko and Crede were traded in a 3 way with the Orioles the other day.

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 10:20 PM) Disclaimer, I dont like Hillary... Ok, so we hear Hillary attacking Obama on his experience and knowledge. Yet, tonight she said it took NH to "find her voice". It took her almost a YEAR to find her voice? yea, not someone I want in charge. Well Bill was out doing a number on Obama saying that Obama says he was the first to be against the war and thats not true. I blame Monica for this. If she could of cleaned her dress, ditched the tie, and not told her gossipy friend about the swimmers making a splat we might not have the blackmail, I mean loving husband based support of the Bill for Hillary campaign.

QUOTE(joeynach @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 10:19 PM) A long time ago someone was posting White Sox Spreadsheets with team payroll with a very good format. It was a color coded format where the different colors represented Team Buy outs, options, Arbitration Eligibility, or Guaranteed. I was wondering if the creator or another user still has this format and if they could post it and contact me via private message, thanks fellas. That would be Kalapse.

QUOTE(Rex Kicka** @ Jan 8, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) Michigan has no delegates. And Obama isn't even on the ballot there. NV is important for Obama, less so than SC though. If both these states keep them neck and neck however, we'll see this go through Super Tuesday. Clinton will win NY, probably NJ and CT as well... Obama will do well in IL, WI, MO and a large part of the South. Partially because of his IL roots, partially because he is African American and southern primaries for the Dems have a super high African American component, and partially because he does very well with church going Democrats, according to NH exit polls. I think Clinton/Obama 08, Obama/Clinton 08 is becoming much more likely as this contest continues to draw on. Trivia: Hillary Clinton now officially becomes the best performing woman candidate for President in US history. Who held this spot previously? Ferraro?

As I watch these speeches I am trying to figure out which one of this dem's will take the biggest chunk out of me with a tax increase. Very depressing.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 11:20 PM) I think Kenny is OK but that long post proclaiming him this amazing GM is simply not true. He has whiffed badly at times. He got us a World Championship and I thank him. But he does not have this amazing master plan that will keep the Sox good forever. Can you say Chris Young? And yes I'm one of the 77 percent in favor of the trade. Greg you confuse me. You are talking about Chris Young. You the same guy who gave everyone the win for today mantra from last year when we were in last place with 2 weeks to go. 3 more wins, and we go from the 3rd position in the draft to the 8th position for next year. Remember the draft picks mean nothing speeches and win for today. We traded Chris Young for Javy in the win it now spirit that you hold so dear. So there really is no reason for you to ever bring up Chris Young or anything else we trade away for win today. In fact, for you there is no point on looking at the minor leagues, because win now baby, next year is next years problem.

QUOTE(JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) No one is saying keep Crede all season, but it sure dosen't make any sense to dump him now while he has no value at all. Brian Anderson would bring more back than Crede right now. Give Crede a chance to prove he is healthy, then trade him come July. And of all the positions in baseball, 1B is the one that requires the LEAST amount of skill or athletism. Fields, however, has athletism and I am sure if Konerko can stretch to reach balls, then Fields would have no problem doing so. Basically I see it this way, Swisher is a better OF defensively, then Fields is a 3B defensively, so it would be better to stick Fields at 1B, then it would Swisher. Also, Crede at 3B would be much better defensively, than Fields in LF or Quentin in LF. So praytell when you get Crede's value up and you trade him. Who again is playing 3rd base for you. And please dont answer with the well we can move Fields back there from 1st. Nothing to help with ones fielding like playing roulette with their position.
-
All this talk of how easy first base is kind of makes me laugh. Yes playing first for your beer league softball team probably doesn't require any athleticism. But playing the position in the majors requires some skill. There is this whole footwork part that everyone is glossing over. And the ability to take short hop throws and stretch while keeping on the bag is another thing. So no you cant just put anyone over at first and hope it works. Can fields do it sure, but whats the point. Oh its the Crede-4-Life coalition who is always inventing brand new ways of keeping him on this team. They were on the move Fields to left for a while no matter how much Kenny said that isn't going to happen. Now its lets get rid of Konerko and move Fields over there. For the C4L crew remember this magical formula. Crede+2007 Season Ending surgery+Bora$$+FA Year = Overwhelming HE GONE.

White Sox Acquire Nick Swisher from Athletics

QUOTE(BearSox @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 01:55 AM) It doesn't take much to see if someone has a live arm or not, and De Los Santos' had the livest arm at the game. A live arm is not the forecast of future success. The minor leagues are filled with electric arms. I have a stinking suspicion that scouting reports, and working the count were not high on the list for the exhibition game that you watched. It was more of see fastball, hit fastball hard swing for the fence. On the pitchers side it was throw fastball as hard as you can, and impress hard contigent of GMs and scouts in attendance. No matter how great his live arm is, major leaguers can hit anyones fastball. All you need to do is to look at Verlander and Zumaya. We can hit their electric stuff pretty well. DLS needs a tertiary pitch. If he develops it, it will help him become a major league starter. If he fails, he will become a bullpen guy. Now eventually he will face some guys who will hit him. How he reacts to that, makes adjustments and develops is what will determine what he will become. Now I like DLS and I like Gio. But as a fan of this team, projecting anything out of one of our prospects is funny. My big b**** with this trade is not what we got back, Swisher will rake here its where our system is at the moment and how it can impact future moves. This move in a vacuum is fine. This move made with some of the previous moves, including Uribe and others is a bit puzzling. Its kind of hard to see what is behind the curtin. Now if we move Konerko and Crede and Uribe things start to feel better in the long run. I may not agree with all of Kenny's moves, but for what its worth. He is trying something. At least it will be better than watching last years team. -
How to spot a bogus rumor. 1.) Source is a brief radio announcement that only you have heard. At that time no one was listening to said radio station. 2.) Immediately after the trade, there is a press conference and conference call. Forget physicals, and the fact that most real trades explode on all radio stations. 3.) The Xbox factor. The trade is overwhelming in the favor of your team. So impressive is the bounty, that it gets everyone excited. The laws of logic and value have no meaning in this wierd Xboxian Utopia where your people are gold, and people cannot do anything but throw large amounts of premium players to get your guys. 4.) In fact, number 1 is not you per-say. But your drunken buddy who woke up from his hangover. He calls you and says I think I heard something on ESPN1000, something about a conference call.

Now on to the more important business of getting a major league hitting coach.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 03:04 PM) Per ESPN via imaginary radio. If he can pull this type of deal off then Kenny should talk to his wife because he can obviously convince her to okay the topless swedish maid, and the no hands bath girl as well. Ardenhart and Kendrick. Yup, now that I think about it, make sure they are swedish twins and can tuck him in at night.

QUOTE(JFields27 @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 02:59 PM) I was just over WSI and some guy posted that his friend heard this on ESPN Radio I just say wow, and would have to let it sink it to get my true feelings about it but from first looks I think i like it, though idk if that leadoff spot was taken care of. Rodriguez isnt ready i dont think either. Adenheart is not coming over for any package we put together. Drop him from the equation.

QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 02:03 PM) I thnk the back surgery most likely has cured that problem Thanks for the diagnosis Dr. Crede.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 01:40 PM) Perhaps if we were taking on Matthews's horrendous contract, we could convince the Angels to take Contreras to lessen some of that blow. The Angels are pitching rich why would they need a 7th starter.
-
QUOTE(elrockinMT @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 11:51 AM) It wouldn't make any logical baseball sense to send Crede to the minors before you would think of sending Fields back down. It wouldn't happen and no reason to even be thinking about it. Hopefully Fields is on the team at 3rd base, and Crede is on another team possibly with Konerko for a nice package.

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 11:02 AM) Er no it has NOT been debunked just because you wish it so. 2005 Sox because of PITCHING, DEFENSE and SPEED. And I don't know what team you were watching but there were more games that I could count where we WON BY ONE RUN. Or threw the other team's rhythm off because of people like Pods on base. Or hit OPPOSITE FIELD. Or hit SITUATIONALLY. Or BUNTED. Yes we hit homers, so what? And nice strawman with the 2007 Sox being the kind of team I'm talking about. Pfft. I don't think so. That old, slow, station-to-station team had literally NOTHING to do with the kind of team I'm talking about, and you know it. My point was I'm tired of the feast-or-famine HR derby of 2004, redux, instead of playing smartball, Ozzieball, whatever it is. Sorry that you don't get that, but take your insults and shove 'em. Thanks. Actually the offense sucked in 05. I think people forget how bad it was, and how people were worried that we would get to the playoffs and not be able to score runs. The offense was good for 2 months during the season, the 2 months that Thomas was in the lineup. Our offense was so bad, that they juggled the lineup right before the playoffs just to give it a spark. We hit home runs. Now I will give Pods a piece of credit, our offense was so rotten in the first 2 months that Pods stealing 2nd was the only way we did score a run. But this was not a small ball team or a team that hit to the opposite field. Just the opposite. Its a lift and pull team, it was a lift and pull team. The reason we won so many games in 05 was the fact that our pitching and our bullpen was filthy. And our defense was great. It wasnt the stolen bases that did it for us, it was the fact that we advanced the trailer on a throw into the plate, its that we ran from 1st to 3rd on a grounder through the infield. More smart running than speed or bunting. We won the world series that year because our team for a few weeks at the end decided to hit opposite field, and not just go for the dong. Those images on your DVD was not the norm for the offense for 05. That was a very pleasant surprise.

Kenny to discuss Swisher Trade @ 1 PM
southsideirish71 replied to joejoesox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well Jumpin Joe Cowley is on greasing the wheels. Joe just stated he thinks that Crede will be the starter and Fields will be in the minors. How f***ed up is that. 23 homers, over 60 RBIs projecting to well over 30 and he will go down. Laughable. -
QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 08:26 PM) Great, Siberia has Universal Healthcare before us. I'm moving to Siberia. Wait. Nevermind. I find these cries for socialized medicine pretty interesting. I am a type II diabetic. I have been an athlete all my life, I eat healthy, never have smoked, and have run every night 5 or more miles. I am in great shape, and I am not the person you would look at and say thats a diabetic( 6'2 175). My doctor was probably just as shocked as I was. The family history is very strong, but to be diagnosed at 32 years old in the shape I was in was pretty odd. My children most likely carry the genetic cocktail that will turn them into diabetics later in life. So healthcare is a very important issue for me. I receive amazing care, I have a great medical team that helps me keep my glucose in control. I am not using Insulin, I am controlling it with drugs. The drug cocktail they give you takes time, and experimentation to get the right mix. And it always changes. One year one drug works, a few years later you need to adapt. So I can tell you honestly that the money I spend on my healthcare is money well spent in my opinion. I only have to look at my young children for a reason to stay issue free. As I have relatives around the world, some in socialized medicine countries. Their experience with dealing with diabetes and the care is not the same. They get put on a drug, and it takes a minor miracle before it gets changed if its not working. They take longer to get minor issues taken care off. For a diabetic, a minor issue one day is a major one in a few years. Do you know why a diabetic gets their eyes checked. Its not just because of the blindness issue. The arteries in the eyes and your kidneys are similar in structure. They use the eye test to gage what is going on with your renal arteries, another area that can fail over time with glucose poisoning. When you have too much glucose in your system over time, it damages these arteries. This damage can be reversed if caught in time, but if it isn't caught in time it can cause renal failure. So a simple issue can become a major one if left untreated. The idea that the care will be the same because the government will take over and it will be free is naive as well. People with chronic diseases will suffer with the level of care they will receive if we move to socialized medicine.
