Mets Interested in Contreras?
southsideirish71 replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(Tim @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 11:51 AM) Don't get ur hopes up dude. Fernando Martinez is about as untouchable as they come when you're talking about position players. The guy JUST turned 18 and is in Double A and doing pretty good. There is a very good chance that he's the number one prospect in baseball when the list comes out next year. Our realistic hope from the Mets should be Lastings Milledge for either Buerhle or Contreras, and that's pushing it considering they wouldn't trade him for Zito last year. I would be happy with a Heilman and Gotay for Contreras trade if the mets pickup the whole salary. Heilman has a chance to be a starter, and even though Gotay is kind of an old prospect, he does lead the Mets in OPS. I want alot more for Buerhle though, probably 2 A prospects and I don't think we're gonna get that from the Mets. First thing, anyone comparing a pitcher's ERA who is in the NL, gets to pitch against pitchers and plays in a pitchers park, versus a pitcher in the AL, facing Travis Hafner, Ortizes and such instead of a pitcher, playing in one of the most prolific hitters parks in baseball is downright dumb. Now for this Mets fan quote. If you dont want to give up a lot, then you dont have to. We will be very happy to see what other teams will want to give us. Its not like the Mets are the only team on the block looking at him. The next best pitcher on the market is Steve Traschel. You can go and trade for him, not burn any of your prospects and hope your offense thumps yourself to the WS. Have a nice day. -

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 02:07 PM) He's a strikeout machine that will have to make a lot of adjustments to be successful regularly in the major leagues. I don't know how anyone can come to the conclusion that he will have a high OBP at this point. I think people are forgetting Crede hit 30 homers and was hitting over .300 until his back gave way last season. If he's healthy, he's damn good. Better than Fields. If he's hurt, Fields is better, but its not like he's lighting it up right now. You realize that Crede up until last year was a poor poor hitter. -
Cardinals Interested in Buehrle?

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 26, 2007 -> 09:51 AM) It would be splendid if one of the Mets starting pitchers or Dodgers starting pitchers gets injured. Also, it wouldn't hurt if Gappard gets rocked tonight for the Red Sox. Well thank our lucky stars that Cy Gabbard isnt facing the sox tonight. A performance like last year would only encourage the RedSox that they are not that bad off. -

The more interest the better. Demand + one pitcher = lots of items coming back. I hope everyone jumps on this. If we see an injury on one of the teams we could see the price jump quite a bit. -
They asked him to take the Breathalyzer, he refused. They then got a warrant for the blood test. None of this was voluntary by Tank. For them to pull blood, they must of really felt that something was up.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:44 PM) Exciting win, but you can't feel that good after giving up a 6 spot in the 9th. Wait till these fools drop down onto the neighborhood and start celebrating their win, by urinating on the bricks and houses in the neighborhoods, vomit, scream go cubbies, cubbies, yeah f***ing cubbies, vomit again.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) I actually like to take it one step further. I'm all for abolishing the W/L record of pitchers altogether. It's a meaningless stat that does nothing but confuse people who don't know what to look for when using statistics to evaluate player performances. f*** Jerome Robertson, seriously. I don't really understand any of this so I'll clarify a bit. Who would you rather have? 8-7 w/ 4.90 ERA, 1.50 WHIP or 2-8 w/ 3.46 ERA, 1.31 WHIP If someone were going by wins, which people like Hawk Harrelson tend to do, they would probably take Suppan. There was a poster before who was blinded by a Buerhle great start, and a typical Johan slow start, and thought that Buerhle was better than Johan. I remember that Johan was down by like small percentage points in ERA, and the poster used wins, and the small percentage of ERA overage to say that Buerhle was a superior pitcher.

Dummy Baker said if our starting pitching was better we would have a better record. Now I see why this fool is unemployed.

White Sox vs. Devil Rays, 6/25/07 (W)

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) What are they supossed to do, hang their head after every win because of how bad this season has gone? The overdone celebration was basically sarcasm by our entire coaching staff, and I can't blame them for trying to have some fun in an otherwise very s***ty situation. The confetti guns, and balloon drop was a bit much though. -

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) That was pretty embarrassing. A win over the Devil Rays should be a given. 15 ks said we ran into Johan Santana and his nasty brother who we battled and beat. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jun 25, 2007 -> 09:22 PM) Wasn't it more Anderson wasn't willing to make the adjustments necessary until it got drilled into him that he couldn't effectively succeed without making those changes? Or am i wrong. No the quote was the Walk didnt want to mess with him, figured he would let his natural ability help him at the major league level. It wasnt until June, and the kid was nearly destroyed before they broke him down. Walk should of been attached at the hip with that kid, the minute Rowand was traded. -

They are hugging in the dugout like they just won the world series. How pathetic. Its the Rays, not the 27 yanks you beat. -

I cant wait till later in the season, when we see a quote, that even though they noticed some mechanical flaws in Fields swing, they didnt want to change him. Because that was the swing he got to the majors with. Thats the excuse they used last year when they allowed Anderson to die a slow and rotten death up here. -

Clue to our next minor league hitting instructors. Teach some of our hitting prospects, that major league pitchers can spot low and away. Its not a pitch that comes around 2 times a year. If you are a member of the whitesox, you will be featured it over and over. Right field is not out, you can hit it there as well. -
