  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 05:09 PM) Pretty cool. I was rather disappointed that I wasn't mentioned but I've always thought of myself as being underrated anyway. Start at steroid rumor.
  2. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2007 -> 02:06 PM) Phillies fans must be laughing that White Sox fans are excited to see Gavin Floyd pitch. Although when he was with the Phillies, White Sox fans would have been excited to see him pitch against the White Sox. Are these the same Phillies fans who were excited about seeing fastball freddy save their playoff hopes this year. Now thats funny.
  3. To me its related to his DL trip, and his back issues of last year. He was a pretty dominant pitcher in the first 2 months of last year. In fact, he was striking out people silly throwing 95 to 97 at times just filthy. Then his sciatica/back acted up. He went on the DL. When he came back, he started to throw side arm a lot. Now two things will happen with a pitcher with back issues, either they fail to follow through due to the pain and leave the ball up a lot, or they try and compensate by dropping down. Now this comment about his age, just doesnt hold water. He is old, but he was old last year in the first 2 months. Throughout his career he has had 94-95 mph fastballs and a filthy fork. When he came up with the Yanks, he was afraid to throw the 95 mph fastball, which seemed to boggle everyones mind. He got forkball happy. Now he is throwing a sub 90 fastball, this year I have seen him anywhere from 90-91 and I have seen him every so often pop it in at 94. The last pitcher we had to have such a drop, was Freddy who had some labrum wear. So to me its either, he has a shoulder/arm issue which is a bad problem because of passing a physical for a trade. Or his back is still causing him issues and he cant drop and drive. There has been a linkage before in major league baseball to leg issues or secondary injuries causing pitchers to change their mechanics to compensate creating arm and shoulder problems. Its starting to smell like Freddy fastball from last year.
  4. Arm angle is up this inning so far. His splitting is dropping more. Maybe Coop gave him a kick in the ass between innings.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 07:24 PM) I think that ship sailed a long time ago. We're looking at some B/C prospects if we expect anyone to take on his contract. well if he took a chance to look at some tape, or had a clue, he could see that he was much more effective throwing with his arm angle up. I dont know how anyone is expected to get bite on a forkball when you are slinging it sidearm. When his arm is up, he has better velocity, he has better location, and he has a better downward stroke on the forkball. This sidearm s***, is either masking an injury, or he is just lazy. You dont just decide to change your mechanics all of a sudden this far into your career.
  6. Basehit to right field, and the Speedy pauly cant score. Secondary leads mean nothing to our team.
  7. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 07:19 PM) Trade Contreras for Milledge and additional prospect and end his time on the Southside. He keeps taking a dump on the mound, and we wont be talking Milledge anymore.
  8. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jul 4, 2007 -> 07:11 PM) If Contreras' removal is entirely dependent upon Buehrle, more the reason to speed everything up. The Buerhle situation should have no affect on the Contreras removal. This guy is going to be on the bill for 2 more years. If we can get this off, it will allow us to take that money and use it elsewhere. The Count is having huge velocity issues.
  9. Maybe its about time for Grandpa Contreras to start throwing over the top again. This sidearm s*** is killing him. He is f***ing us, by playing like crap, and he is killing his trade value because the scouts have radar guns, and can see what we are seeing. He is 88 and down, it seems like Garcia all over again.
  10. Andy comes in and makes a catch. Ozuna, Pods and now Gonzales. We have had some leather thrown in left this year. The Olson kid is piddling the bed right now in his first start. Bad call by the umps, Corey traps the gooch ball, 1 out.
  11. Andy Gonzales looked silly on a fly ball with the sun at twighlight. Its imperative that Contreras has a good showing today. The trade value needs to go up more.
  12. QUOTE(BobDylan @ Jun 28, 2007 -> 04:46 PM) If you're thinking about buying Rainbow Six Vegas for the PS3, rent it first. The online play is absolutely terrible. works just fine on the 360.
  13. Rainbow Six Las Vegas : Black Edition expansion pack is download able for free on xbox live now. 5 more maps. 3 brand new, one old one Presido from RSL original. And one redone. Streets is now at night. Thats 10 new maps in 4 months. This is what most games should do, keep adding download able content, with new maps. If they added some new weapons that would be awesome as well.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 10:51 PM) So Joakim Noah was at the Sox game tonight sporting the AJ jersey... Its so a preview of things to come. His quotes about giving 150% on everything, no matter what sounded just like the character from Bedazzled.
  15. Dye f***s up. Come on, get hot for a week so we can get more than bag of baseballs for you.
  16. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 12:05 PM) Miss PA is now Mrs PA. Just FYI. The word "Magnum" probably has little meaning around these parts Congrats to you and Mrs. PA. I wish the both of you health, wealth, and happiness.
  17. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jul 3, 2007 -> 12:34 AM) Taking out Buehrle was an idiotic, stupid ass move. You don't take the ball out of your pitchers hand in that situation. He went 7.2 strong up till that point, and was getting the righties out more effectively tonight. If I was Buehrle in that situation, I wouldn't have given Ozzie the ball. I would have said get the f*** outta here, this is my ballgame. Who the hell cares if he threw 117 pitches? He isn't getting paid to be babied. I am sure 1 more batter wouldn't have killed him. If he gets the out, great. If he gives up a hit, then take him out. Hey, I am glad to know that if it was Contreras on the mound though, he would have stayed in, even if he was struggling all game... Are you for real. 117 pitches in the game, 8 warm up pitches for 8 innings, his pregame long toss session, and his pregame bullpen session. That is a hell of a lot of work on the arm. This is a sub 500 team near the allstar break. Why the hell are people so bent and worried about 1 more batter in this season over the harm it could of done to a pitcher in the long run. He is a 28 year old soon to be FA. Do you really think that he was thinking to himself, one more out and I can defeat the mighty Baltimore Orioles. Or that hey we have a pretty big lead here, the bullpen should be able to get a few outs and lets call it a night. 4 outs, thats what the bullpen needed to get. 4 outs. The he isnt paid to be babied is a dumb comment. Buerhle is a guy who toes the rubber every 5 days and goes deep. He is everything you ask in a pitcher, in fact our starters have busted their asses all season long. Making comments on a guy not going deep enough in the game is a bit myopic.
  18. QUOTE(greg775 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) This game may be remembered as the most disappointing of the season. Nice road trip, signs of life. Some offense tonight. Then this pathetic showing. I know the season's already over, but this may be the game remembered as the worst considering the opponent. You must have a short memory. Last weekend and the entire showing against the NL should of sickened you. This is the AL, at least this is the majors.
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:52 PM) I don't know. Someone will be available. KW should have some starters to dangle around. As I said, I would need to know the return before dealing Jenks, who still is effective, but a guy who they run ads about boasting about his ability to throw a ball really hard. I'm very concerned. He reminds me of Bob James. They both threw very hard, both had some weight problems, and James went from great to horrible very quickly. I'd even think about making Vazquez a closer although I'm sure KW wouldn't consider it considering his salary. I'd think he could be excellent going 1 inning a night and cutting down on the number of different pitches he throws. Vazquez a closer. He has more value as a starter. The I dont know, someone will be available is bulls***. Jenks is cheap, dirt freaking cheap. He is under control for a long time. So the risk is minimal. Who is this mysterious golden arm that will come in here, and be our closer. Mind you for dirt cheap because rebuilding teams dont spend a ton of money on their closer. After this year of crap in the pen, people should be looking to keep what is good in our pen, and jettison what is bad. Yet it seems that we want to get rid of our good closer, because of bad memories of past players. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:58 PM) I am not saying that you should trade him for blowing 1 save, I am saying trade him because odds are that he is going to have more and more nights like tonight in the future. Did you read my post earlier in this thread? Bobby Jenks is going to go the Billy Koch route. Straight high 90s heat disappears; closer gets shelled every time he gets a save opportunity. The ONLY reason that he hasn't been shelled is his nasty uncle charlie and he rarely throws it for a strike. I said it once and I'll say it again, It baffles me that Jenks has had as much success this year as he has because all hitters need to do is sit on his 93 mph straight fastball and he'll be toast. I think that hitters respect Bobby's fastball too much for some reason because it is nowhere near what it used to be. I'd trade Bobby by the deadline mainly because I think he'll be toast next season when the new scouting reports on his fastball are out. If Bobby was so easy to figure out, the scouts would of been on to him by April and they would of been shelling him like crazy. This isnt 1950, the scouting reports and radar gun readings are available real time. Tonight look at the hits, all bloops. Its not like they figured him out and were putting the ball to the wall. In Tampa, he had some saves that the ball was hit a hell of a lot harder than tonight. And I dont recall everyone talking about how he is finished and needs to go. Oh he got the save, and thats all that matters.
  20. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:41 PM) As I said above, I would wait until the offseason to trade him, or the Sox could lose 100 games the way the rest of the bullpen performs. The current bullpen is horrible. It needs to be blown up. I thought last year was bad. Considering Jenks has 20 less strikeouts in 5 2/3 less innings than his rookie year though, you would have to admit his stuff isn't as intimidating, and not on the curve you would find ideal. Who is going to close the games next year. Give me a name. Just saying, it needs to be blown up. Sure thats easy. Who is his replacement.
  21. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 09:48 PM) Fair enough. Now explain to me why we have to make fun of or bash Pods for getting hurt? That's all I'm saying. And why do people make fun of the cubs for relying on Prior and Wood. People before the season where placing bets in the ST threads about how long Pods and Erstad would be healthy. How many groin surgeries, or other injuries before he is an often injured player. He is a speed guy, that has had 4 groin surgeries. Thanks for 05, they should trade him this offseason.
  22. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:32 PM) These things probably don't happen if he's got his good gas. Well praytell, who should we put in if we get rid of Bobby. Trading him sure, teams would jump at it. But if you get frustrated with him, wait till his replacement toes with rubber.
  23. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:24 PM) Definitely agree with you on this one. You'd think some people had never seen a blown save before. I'm personally all for dealing him if the right offer comes along. Well the only problem for us is that the 2 teams in most need for a closer are the Indians and the Tigers.
  24. QUOTE(Phil McKrevice @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:22 PM) That has so much sarcasm dripping from it that it looks like Freddy used it to wipe off. If you want to turn the season around at all, not even to get back in contention, but at least to just finish with a winning record, you have to start somewhere. The Sox have started to make it happen of late, but this is the kind of blow that's absolutely demoralizing. You play the season to make the playoffs and to win the world series. The only difference between the 90 win that misses out of the playoffs and the 56 win team is a draft position. I want them to win because I am a fan. Rebuilding teams worry about momentum going into the next season. Championship teams, will look at this year as a blip in the radar, and will try to come out proving that the critics are wrong.
  25. QUOTE(southsida86 @ Jul 2, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) 7/2/07-exhibit A on why you trade Jenks. OMG HE BLEW A SAVE, HE MUST BE TRADED. Some of you people have no concept of reality. If you want to trade him because he has a ton of value and you are worried about injury risk sure. But to say that he is a bad pitcher, or bad closer is stupid at best.
