QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 10:04 PM) A better throw by Uribe gets the dp, though I don't blame Uribe .... it was tough play. He was hung up a bit on the feed by AArdsma. -

Aardsma, needs to relax a bit. he looks like he is trying to throw it through AJ and not to the mitt. -

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:40 PM) Borowski would K Anderson approximately 44.9% of the time. This is your barometer of having him join the staff. LOL Well let me introduce you to the bounty of pitchers we could have on this squad if that was the only requirement -

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:34 PM) Todd Jones isn't great either, but he's effective. It would be no less nerve-wracking than our current bullpen. We're setting up for blown save #7 already. The Twins won't do that in an entire season. Todd Jones plays in the grand canyon. Todd Jones in this park day in and day out would get destroyed. Joe Borowski would make Thriller seem like strike out guy. -

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:31 PM) It would be nice to have Joe Borowski. He blew the game against the Yankees with a 4 run lead, but he's been nails in all of his other games this season. And he doesn't throw 93-97, so it would be a totally different look for opposing batters. Can I have what you are drinking because its pretty potent. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:28 PM) You can admit two things though. 1.) Pitching was a bigger reason why we won in 2005. 2.)Pods was ass in the second half (only to hit out of his mind in the postseason -- he'll always be loved for that). Ding. We won in 05 because of two things. Our pitching was amazing. And in the playoffs, our guys decided to hit. -

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:26 PM) What was our winning percentage in 2005 when Pods stole a base and scored a run in a game? He stole a whole 15 of them post allstar break. and was caught stealing 14 times. -

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) It'd be nice to see the Matt Thornton from a year ago sometime. The minute Matt can throw the breaking pitch he had in ST he will be okay. he is fastball only right now. -

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:20 PM) Better player, but not better for the White Sox. Unless you think we would have won the World Series with Carlos Lee in LF and Magglio in RF instead...odds are, you'd see the same team as we saw in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. All or nothing. Pods changes the mentality of the line-up, he puts pressure on opposing pitchers, creates more fastballs for Iguchi and drives up the pitch count, WHEN healthy. If you look at the 05 season, the only 2 good months that they actually had a decent offense where the times that Thomas was in some protection for the middle of the lineup. The minute he left, the offense went in the pooper. Pods was a non factor in the 2nd half. Pods helped out in the first 2 months when the big guys were not hitting at all. But after that, its a wash. -

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) Speaking of cost savings, Garcia has a 5.65 ERA and is on the downside of a 4-3 Marlins lead. Take away Danks' 3 "unearned" runs on the pop-up against DET, and his numbers are clearly better. Danks impresses the hell out of me. This kid has stones. I think what we will see is over the year, his control get better and better. Once he can throw it where he wants it, watch out His change is plus, his curve is plus, and his delivery is funky enough to hide the ball. He could be good. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:16 PM) SSI....I guarantee you could get Cintron out right now at the plate. Cintron will be fine. He needs ABs. He was injuried in ST. And he was out for a bit here. I like him as a bench player. -

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 09:12 PM) I'm really excited about Russell With Eggs low homer total, he must have a turbo sinker or the ability to throw low in the zone with movement. For me the perfect type of sox pitching prospect is either someone with a sinker, or a strikeout pitcher. The less balls in the air overall the better. Strikeout pitchers give up a dong from time to time. but their ability to get an out without it going into play is great. Russell and his velocity and arm angles should be interesting. Massett, Danks plus what we have at AA the sox look good for a long term pitching future. They just need to start to draft arms now, guys who can throw the ball through the wall. It seems that we have a propensity to channel that type of pitcher. -

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 08:20 PM) ...and this is why the fake Johan is garbage away from the big A. His HR rate is ugly away from there. He has no clue where his fastball is going. He throws these fastballs that are high, and tail over the middle of the plate. -

Dye has has put 2 good swings on 2 balls. One was a hang wiff 'em. One was a dong. Konerko had a good swing on the first ball, it was a hang wiff'em. Now AJ turns on a high fastball. -

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 08:14 PM) As long as he doesn't walk 4-5 hitters per game and elevate his pitch counts, he can still be a very effective pitcher at 91-93 MPH. Johan Santana usually throws in that 92-93 range as well. Santana has the change, Contreras has the forkball, although he doesn't throw the fork nearly as much as he used to. Despite his troubles this year, his IP/H ratio is very respectable. He has been effective. But the dominant Jose, is an arm slot up. If he can move his arm slot to 3/4s again and regain his velocity, he is a legitimate ace. -

QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 08:07 PM) There's a 4 MPH difference between his peak and where he's throwing at now (97 versus 93), but it's very cold and it's April in Chicago. I expect him at 94-95 again, not sure if we'll ever see the peak Contreras of late 2005 and early 2006. Okay when the Count was pitching well in 05 and in 06 he was a 3/4 delivery. He would drop down once in a whle to give a righty a different look. He would pound the zone with hard moving fastballs, and would get out on the splitter. April or not, after his back injury last year he dropped down all the time. Which is something pitchers do when their back hurts You either drop down, or you dont follow through and leave the ball up all the time. Throwing side arm all the time, is not condusive to 2 things. Velocity and his splitter. For a splitter to work, it must have a tumbling action. You snap the wrists, and drive down to get the back spin and in his case it acts like a knuckler. I dont know how you get that motion on a side arm delivery. -

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 08:05 PM) What may happen.... Thome to the DL, Anderson to AAA; Fields and Sweeney called up. That's just me throwin darts at the situation. We could DH Dye in that instance as well, with Sweeney in RF. I think fields needs to be the guy who comes up. He is right handed, has some pop in his bat. We have enough left handed options on the team. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 07:58 PM) I miss the pitcher who used to throw his forkball on any pitch. I miss the guy who threw 95 and used to pound the zone with fastballs, then use his plus splitter to get people out. Mr. Forkballs everytime didnt do too much for me. And Mr. Sidearmer is on the Freddy Garcia velocity plan. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 27, 2007 -> 08:00 PM) Age caught up with Contreras. Next season may not be too pretty for him. This season certainly isn't looking too good. I dont buy the age. He started this dropping down crap, right after he tweaked his back last year. Either he is healthy and just worried about going up 3/4s again. Or he is still nursing a bad back, and is dropping down to relieve pressure on it. His velocity is more of an issue of him not dropping and driving behind the ball. When you throw side arm, its hard to get really behind it. -

When did Contreras become El Duque. He just decided to go from guy who throws 95 and up with a nasty splitter to Mr. Sidearmer with 90mph. What is it too costly to get a medical diagnosis or an MRI.
