This ball game is Ovah. 6-4-3 and Bobby gets the save. Konerko kicked ass tonight. Nice job. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 10:05 PM) Oh jeez....Jenks has nothing yet again. Uh his velocity is fine. He is throwing strikes. One ball that Dye should of caught. And a ground ball that would of been a 4-3 if Gooch wasnt deaking the guy at 2nd. -

In all reality this is what should happen. The game should end Whitesox 9 - Royals 2. The whitesox should be held to 4 runs over 6 by Meche. Then the Royals bullpen comes into the game, and bombs away. -

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 11:20 AM) I hope Hawk doesn't use the "sometimes you just need to tip your cap" excuse. I just dont want to here the Cy Youngification of any of the Royals pitchers. Wow, look at the break on that. Thats 1000 mph on the black, you just need to tip your cap. I know the ERA says 12.34, but that isnt what we are seeing tonight. This guy has at least 9 pitches with the different arm angles, and he throws strikes with all of them. Ooh Pauly just missed one, mercy. The 2nd baseman comes in near the pitchers mound to catch the 3rd out. -

QUOTE(pale_hose @ Apr 23, 2007 -> 12:06 PM) we cant take the Royals lightly. He have a good line up that can put up some runs. If they had any pitching at all, they would even contend for the central. They did just win the series against the twins... Lets not overstate their case. They have a few good hitting guys. They are still a team you should beat and beat just about everytime. Take a gander at their bullpen, and wave to Riske and then think sweep. -

Hail Hail the Celts are Here!!!! The Bhoys won the SPL, hopefully will win the Scottish cup and had a pretty good champions league run. A double I can take, a treble would of been sweet. Another great season for Hoops football. -
QUOTE(whitesoxgirl0838 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 09:36 PM) ....and thank u for that, but im still sticking with what i said. hopefully this is just a slump for PK and everyone can get off his ass He slumped for April and May in 05. Hopefully we are not waiting till June to see Kong breakout. He tinkers too much with his swing and gets into prolonged slumps. One lasted the entire season in 03. Hopefully he gets his head out of his ass, because we need his bat so Thome gets good pitches to crush Dye gets good pitches to crush. If one guy is struggling like Kong, then they walk Thome to get to Kong. If Kong crushes the ball then great, if he hits 200 or below then we are in for hard time scoring runs. The 3-4-5 beast can be a monster to overcome for a pitcher. But we need them to be firing on all cylinders. The amount of walks Thome has seen is just a representation of the struggles of Kong. They are bypassing one of our sluggers completely just to get to Kong. Thats not good.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 06:09 PM) you guys do realize your precious twins just lost a series to the Royals and scored a whopping 1 run today. No team is perfect offensively and every team is going to have bad nights. Lets see how we do against the Royals, who have played us tough and have cost us in the past before we talk about the Twinks. The twins and the Tigers last year have made a history of beating bad teams, and playing decent against good teams. The key to this year is beating teams like the Royals. If we play like we did against the Tigers this weekend against good teams, and roll the bad teams we are gong to the playoffs. If we struggle against bad teams this year, its going to be tough. The royals are a better barometer of how we have progressed. Our killer instinct against bad teams has be poor. As far as Aardsma today. How he got beat, thats okay to me If you get beat on a fastball or pitching to a hitter. Tip your cap. If you get beat by walking a bunch of people and then giving it up. Then you feel like you got punched in the stomach. With our pitching we should have the twinks record if not better.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 06:01 PM) wrong? lol. I'll use the Twins for example... They have a collective total of 9 homers, but 168 singles (not counting doubles or triples). So please tell me how I am wrong when I say there are more triples and doubles and singles then there are home runs? The stat you are looking for is Total Bases. TB Total bases Hits + 2B + (3B times 2) + (HR times 3) Whitesox have a 189 TB, while the twinks have 239.

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 05:38 PM) I see a couple of you mention Anderson. What the heck did he do in the game that was real bad? Its hard for him to get into a rhythm right now at the plate. I am sure his head is a bit messed up, and probably he puts a ton of pressure on himself to produce every AB when he is up there now. To make his case. The ball that turned into a double was a mistake a lot of people would of made, the swing of the bat was long, it came off the end of the bat. And he broke back, and it fell in. He threw high on the play, and the runner was safe at 2nd. Maybe a good throw is an out. Every mistake this kid makes is maginifed due to the inactivity, and to Ozzies opinion. I think its better than Tererro is brought up, and Brian can reload and get more ABs in the minors. He is in a no win situation now.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 05:34 PM) Why are you whining so much? The first 2 games we scored runs without relying solely on the longball and we scored enough runs today to win too. When you have a 2 run lead into the 9th you should win, we lost because of Aardsma not because of our offense. After facing a 3-0 deficit to begin the game we were in position to win, so stop Whatever, you are right. Our offense is fine. Our offense is fine. The last in baseball in offense is just a mirage and has nothing to do with any of our losses this year. If only our pitchers would completely shut down every team we could win. Its on the pitching and not the baseball team of runners left on base today. That insurance run in the 9th would of softened the bullpen, and made their job too easy. Whatever

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 05:29 PM) The thing is, the Tigers are team that can pretty much only hit fastballs....its shocking that teams continue to come in and throw that many fastballs to some of there hitters (Monroe/Thames especially who are dead pull all the time, just throw the stuff outside and let them get themselves out). Monroe's bat is slider speed. You can beat him with velocity. Thames is a pull only home run hitter like a lot of our guys. You sit low and away and he is out a lot of the time. You challenge him over the plate and he will rock you.

QUOTE(Wealz @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) If you want to construct a team of line drive hitters that's one thing, but to expect this Sox team to become that is folly. That's not they way they were built. By the way off the top of my head, the Sox have faced Sabathia twice, Santanna, Harden, Verlander Millwood, and Robertson so far this season. That's pretty tough and that they are where they are so far is a pretty good sign, imo. Its not having a team of line drive hitters. It called balance. You can have a few thumpers. But you need a tablesetter someone who can get on base for your leadoff guy. Your second guy should be a contact guy who can hit the ball to right. Your 3-4-5 guys need power. Your 6-7-8 guys should be line drive doubles types. And your 9 guy should be similiar to your leadoff guy. Currently we are 3-8 home run guys. Guys who lift and pull and pray.

Greg Walker with more fine quoteable material after the game. "The numbers on the back of the card dont lie.' Sure Greg, players cant have good and bad seasons. They just hit the same year after year without a hiccup, so I guess you dont have to do your job. Can we get someone else that can assist a hitter, when they start to get mechanical problems. This throw your hands up and just pray they snap back into mode doesnt seem to work.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 05:19 PM) Lee wasnt gone because of his HR swing, you do remember the 28 game hitting streak he had. And he hit for a good avg. too. The reason he was gone is because of Ozzie. He was gone for his all or nothing approach. He had a 28 game hitting streak, then he and our benevolent hitting coach were upset that his power numbers were too low. They changed his approach towards the end of the streak. His power numbers went up, and his situational hitting went to s***. He was personally called out in a post game tirade by KW after a loss against the Twins in August. Remember when he struck out trying to hit homers when we needed singles or contact. He was as good as gone then. Ozzie didnt get rid of Lee, that was KW.

QUOTE(Wealz @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 05:03 PM) They were third in the league last year in runs scored using the same exact approach. You would of loved our O pre 2005 then. It was near the league lead in homers, runs scored and no playoffs. Again the tale of 2 halves. Pre-allstar we scored 520 runs good for first in baseball. That was all world there. We had a team .288BA. In the 2nd half we were scored only 328 runs. Which was behind the Royals. But again chicks dig the long ball. If you are so for this approach, lets bring back Jose Valentin, maybe we can dig Rob Deer out of retirement. And go with a team hitting .240-.250 and hitting 200 homers and we will win about 75 games this year. QUOTE(Wealz @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 05:10 PM) They Twins were 8th in the league in runs scored last year, the Sox were third. Were were third in 04 with similiar numbers. Remember KW said he needed to overhaul the all or nothing offense. Thats why Valentin, Lee were gone.

Power numbers look good. 4th in the AL in Dongs. Ah yet the bat on the ball thing isnt working. Last in batting average Dead last in singles Here is what I call the line drive stat. Line drives down the line, and in the gaps are doubles. Dead last in doubles Sure they are just going for a line drive approach. The endless popups are just are imagination. And for the proof that the line drive approach is better. We 2nd to last on scoring runs. Scoring more runs than your opponent is still the way you win the game, unless they changed it on us.
-
QUOTE(Wealz @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) Provide evidence of this please. Sure this team is known for its line drive approach, and not going for the dong. Oh BTW water is pink, the sky is orange and Ozzie loves Brian.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 04:12 PM) I have a bad feeling that KW will do something idiotically drastic at mid-season to get Rowand back. Like trading Anderson and Day for him. You dont trade guys who have a 70/80 slider on a scouts scale. Thats just dumb. I love how they cherry pick the same overly optimistic fools to talk on the PFB show. Wasnt Tom from Desplaines that same overly optimistic fool who called into the PFB show last year, and talked about how negative everyone was and how we still had a chance to win it. Then PFB told him, uh no Tom we were just mathmatically elminated today.

I just want to know when this team will hit something outside of a homer to score. It did happen this weekend. But its not happening enough. Its warm out, unless they think 70 degrees is cold. Now I know that usually means lift and pull is back into full production, but our sitatuional hitting sucks. If we are still hitting like this come May 1st, and we are homer or nothing and most of our lineup is lost. Hopefully KW will have the balls to fire Walker, and get someone in here who can teach them out to level their swing out, and maybe help with a long looping swing.
-
I just want to know when we will hit with RISP outside of a homer. We had 2 good games, then back to the homer or nothing crap again. Everyone swinging for the fences, and waiting to board the plane. Hopefully they will ge their heads out of their asses, and play good in KC.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 22, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) Once again, Amazing how losing this last game can shade your view. If the Sox won Game 1, lost yesterday, and got the W today, everyone is happy. We win the 1st two, and lose this one, and it feels like a bad weekend. I'm not calling anyone out, I feel the same way, just odd how it works. The loss of this game doesnt irk me. AArdsma isnt going to be lights out all the time. He pitched well this year, and had a bad game. It happens. He was one out away from a sweep. What irks me is the fact that our offense is still all or nothing. And we have members of our 3-4-5 combo that are completely lost. I wonder what Walk does to fix him, besides saying he is a major leaguer and got here with his swing . Konerko tinkers too much with this swing, and is completely lost. He will be this way for a while because our coaching staff cant help on this one. Brian Anderson needs to go to AAA and get rebuilt. He is a mess now. Bring up Terrero. -

So when is Walker going to earn his keep and fix our hitters who break for months on end. I have never seen so many hitters just suck for months at a time. How about breaking down his swing a bit, and having him shorten it up and get it back with going to right center. When Kong is most dangerous, he hits a ton of bombs to right center like in the 05 playoffs. Popup Paulie needs to go away, and line drive paulie needs to return. -
