QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 08:43 PM) I still say the Sox should go after Lugo long before they think about Vizquel.... If we could dump him after this year i'd say go for it but that third year just isn't worth it... Lugo is stone hands at SS. We should of kept Jose Valentin if we trade for Lugo. Get Vizquel, he is the type of bat we need.
-
This thread has me grinning from ear to ear. Vizquel is a difference maker. He is a sparkplug that makes things happen. The trickle down affect is amazing. Look at how Gooch is when he gets a chance to swing the bat. You put Vizquel at the 2 hole. He will flourish there and is faster than gooch. You have Gooch hit lower in the order. He gets a chance to swing the bat. I think he will tear the ball off the cover there. You are changing the lineup in two places with one move. He is a class guy with lots of playoff experience. GET HIM KW.

White Sox vs. Red Sox July 24 Game Thread

Bronson looks like he is either Wicked or Retahded. Dumbest sign today is the bandwagon RedSox fans who have the "I see Red People" Actually I see bandwagonning dumb people. Some 15 year old girl at Buffalo Wild Wings on Friday was professing why she loves the Redsox while we were watching that game in the outdoor patio. The entire table that was with her noticed that I and my 1 year old son were wearing the whitesox jerseys and then proceeded to tell us yup the WhiteSox suck and that they are all true blue RedSox fans and even 1917 crap. Oddly enough they did not have a New England accent. So I turned and said who is the starting SS for the RedSox, the girl turned and said well Silly its Nomah. I turned to my wife and said, I thought Cub fans were the dumbest f***ers out there. -

QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) When I see Gload hit like that I just want to punch Ozzie in the nuts because you know he still believes that Timo is more important to the team. All that G-LOAD does is rake the ball. -

Thats what this offense needs. Some G-LOAD. YEAH A lot of nice short quick swings today from the guys. I am liking it. Nobody is going for the dong today so far. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:54 AM) For those wanting a bat. My question is who gets replaced in the lineup and who do you all want? Uribe would be the most likely guy. Vizquel as your number 2. Move gooch further back in the lineup so he can swing away. I think it gets the front of the lineup even better, and improves an inconsistant back of the lineup. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:43 AM) His ERA the las 2 months is over 4.50. That's in the NL. Run support hasn't been the issue. You are right he is a bad pitcher, all those teams trying to trade for him must not have looked up those stats, I am sold now. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) To me there is only one spot the other bat can go and thats shortstop. You could make a case for 2nd as well cause Guchi is in a major major funk. But Omar Vizquel would look amazing. Problem is I don't think the Giants are interested in dealing him. Uribe is such a free swinger and is in such a bad way this year. I dont want him up to bat at all with the game on the line. Vizquel would be perfect. He is left handed, could take over the 2 spot allowing Gooch to hit lower in the order were I feel he will take off. And it gets Uribe out of the everyday lineup. -

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) If this trade goes down, I think we'll see another one. Clearly there is a need for another bat. Something left handed that can make contact and doesnt popup, K or GIDP like our current 3-4-5 have been doing with RISP. -

QUOTE(southsideirish @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 10:21 AM) Wrong on both accounts. There is not one report that states Burnett doesn't want to be here and Contreras would be the man going to the pen. BMac can bring you a middle of the order guy? Who is available and who can he bring us? If Marte is hurt and inconsistent right now then how will he become healthy and consistent later this season? I mean we are going for the World Series THIS year right? Marte hasnt been consistant in a few years. He is either lights out itting 94 on the gun and getting ahead or he is wild like crazy getting behind and then he pops a hanging slider or 91 mph fastball in. My feeling is his is gone based on the hiding the injury deal earlier in the year. He did that 2 times. HE GONE -

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) JUST THOUGHT OF SOMETHING: We have all agreed that Paulie does not fit into 06's plan due to his very high contract demands and the horrible approach at the plate that entails...have we not? Well, Mike Lowell plays 3B. Yes, he plays 3B. A very logical transition for a 3B to make is over to 1B. Yes, 1B. ...just something to think about. DING DING DING. The man has hit the jackpot. Lowell if picked up in this trade would spell the end of a Mr. Paulie anti clutch Konerko. Marte has been inconsistant over the last few years and BMAC might be great, then again he might be felix diaz. Only time will tell. Everyone was fretting giving up Miggy Olivo last year and ooober prospect Reed. It hasnt worked out so far. Reed will be good, but I think Morse is the sleeper in that deal. Its not always the big guys in the deal that work out. -
QUOTE(qwerty @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 11:16 PM) Lee hit .299 with men in scoring position with an ops of .876? I remember KW right after the August twins series saying that if he ever saw a guy swing for the fences with men on and less than 2 outs he would puke. That was after Carlos fell over King with men on and less than two outs. Plus I thought he was moved because he was a selfish player.

I have a bad feeling that KW will offer him his contract after the season. Captain popup, master of the GIDP, Commander of the solo homer will be with us for at least 4 more years. -

Won't name names out of respect for players busting their hump for us right now. - Is confident that with the current team they can go all the way. I think I just vomitted in my mouth. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) This is so hypocritical it's ridiculous. I respect Bill Melton as much as anyone does, just cause he's an ex major leaguer doesn't make him always right. I called you a hypocrite cause Hawk and DJ were talking about how good Miller was tonight but you won't admit that, so I guess you know more then them too right?? By the way, Keith I see you reading this thread, I'm sure wanting to rip on me for the A's comment. We've had this discussion already so you don't even have to bother. Bad example. Hawk is a homer and we love him for it. But he is not very objective at all. Every year at Soxfest, this is the best whitesox team I have been around. This is the best soxfest I have been around. INSERT HERE manager is the best at what he does. Hawk is not a baseball analyst also. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:55 PM) SSI, you know I'm a fan of your belief. However, this is a pretty foolish statement. I've heard some of the dumbest things ever from former athletes. Typically, they only get the job because of their name. The much smarter baseball people are usually the ones who had to earn the job with their insight into the game. However, Joe Carter doesn't deserve to be grouped into this argument. Carter could give Albert Frankenstein a run for his money. Bill Melton is pretty much on the spot with the whitesox. He doesnt make outlandish statements and is pretty grounded. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Modeling your team to play a certain way won't work with everyone's personnel. Do you really want to see guys like Crede, Rowand, and Uribe taking pitches at the plate? If you get two strikes on those guys, the AB is typically over. The current team we have will never be patient, no matter what. Actually the As model is take pitches out of the strikezone and work the count so you can swing the bat with a good count. They put the ball in play when its in the strikezone and take it when its in the dirt. Or we could go with our method, which is to take the fastball down the middle of the plate, swing at 2 in the dirt. That has been working great. Also check our strikeout numbers for our main players. They are not the model for consistancy already. Maybe working the count is a better idea instead of Uribe swinging at the first pitch after the previous hitter worked the count. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:51 PM) Modeling your team after the A's offense is a terrible idea. Considering those kind of lineups will never win a championship, imo. I am sure Bill is wrong and you are right. He also said our offense has been bad for a while now, and outside of the injun series we have been scoring runs mainly on homers. And with that approach its hard to keep consistant. But then again he just played major league baseball and is an analyst for comcast. What does he know. -

QUOTE(whitesoxmanager @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:45 PM) this team is built to win in the playoffs...finally....we have every ingredient to close it out when it really counts....! lets just pray that we don't get hit with key injuries...! Our pitching is built to win in the playoffs. Our hitting is not. Belton Bill Melton said after the game that we should model ourselves after the A's. They are a low BA team that works counts and makes the best with what we have. But s*** the As dont hit solo homers like we do. We are going to have at least 180 homers. We rock. -

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 09:41 PM) I'm not talking about just runs scored, I'm talking about how they've consistantly scored a solid amount of runs in most games. Your right. The offense is fine. We score plenty of runs. Its swamp gas that has us losing 3 out of the last 5 series. We keep getting the unlucky draw of running into former Cy Young award winners night in and night out. Cy Miller really just took it to us.
