QUOTE(S720 @ Oct 10, 2005 -> 12:38 PM) Ozzie did have a whole lot of affects in persuading KW to change to "small ball" philosophy. If your players do not believe in you, no matter who you've brought in, it doesn't matter anyway. My question to you is should Manuel still be around, would KW move to "small ball" philosophy? Remember ONLY with the "small ball" philosophy that KW went out and got all of those grinding players. Give that question some time before answer it. The biggest factor in our success is our pitching. All the starting rotation and bullpen help has nothing to do with small ball. So cross about half of KW's newly obtained players off the small ball list. AJP is not small ball. Dye is not small ball. Iguchi is sometimes forced to play small ball, but arguably would've had better stats had he not adopted that method. He even said himself several times that he'd rather not play that way. Podsednik and Ozuna are the only small ball acquisitions KW made. One of them is a bench player. Pods is behind at least 10 other players in terms of total production to this team. So as you can see, we are not a small ball team. We hit 200 home runs and scored more runs off the HR than most everyone else. The few players on this team who could be considered small ball only helped a small fraction compared to those players who would not be considered small ball.

I still don't think I am wrong for disliking Ozzie Guillen as an in-game manager. Bad managers have had seasons of over 90 wins in the past, great managers have had seasons where they didn't reach 70 wins. I attribute much more of our success to KW. It's pretty amazing when you think of the new contributing players he added to this team in one year's time. Podsednik, Dye, Iguchi, Pierzynski, Ozuna, Widger, Garcia, Contreras, Hernandez, Hermanson, Vizcaino, Jenks. However, I do like the fact that all the players seem to love playing for Guillen (except Marte?) This kept our team in good spirits throughout the season and obviously had some effect on the players KW was able to sign.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) Figgins did slug better than Podsednik...nothing is stopping that. However...if I can delve into the "what if" excuse game for a moment...what if Podsednik does not injure his hamstring? How many bases does he steal? And more importantly, how many of his caught stealings now are translated into SBs due to being fully healthy? Pehaps, 80-90 SBs? I think that's a fair estimate. I tried to come up with what his numbers would be if he didn't injure his leg and I got 85 SB and 17 CS (very rough calculation.) That would bring him closer to Figgins' production.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 11:17 PM) How do you figure? Figgins - .290 AVG, .352 OBP, 62 SBs Podsednik - .290 AVG, .351 OBP, 59 SBs Well the difference must be in the SLG% and stolen base % because Figgins produces about 60% more offensive WS/G than Podsednik.

When El Duque came in, I was praying he would give up only one run. I probably doubted more than anyone the validity of him being a different pitcher in the postseason, but now I'm very thankful we have him to go to out of the pen from here on out. The bottom half of that 6th inning is something I will not soon forget.

Funny how all of them think Berman is a White Sox fan and everyone here thinks Berman is a Red Sox fan.

QUOTE(Nokona @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) Three bands I've been listening to non stop: Panic! at the Disco (they played great at the Aragon on Friday) How good is the last track on that cd? I love their twist on that verse from the sound of music.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) I haven't seen much Tigers baseball, but I have heard that Trammell is about as bad at in game managing as Ozzie. You heard right. Good move by the Tigers.
