  1. I was at a bar the night Pauly hit the slam and the place was up for grabs. It wasn't until months later that I heard Farmer's radio call of: "IT'S A SLAM, LIGHT IT UP!" That call still geeks me when I hear it and that's saying a lot cuz I hate Farmer. Pauly's was better.
  2. Brownstone, no doubt. I used to do a little, but a little wouldn't do it, so the little got more and more I just keep trying to get a little better, just a little better than before. We've been dancin' with Mr. Brownstone, he's been knockin', he won't leave me alone.
  3. I was at a party last night where some Latinos (including friends) were shocked to find out that I won't be attending the rally on Monday.
  4. I can't wait to see THIS! Warning, sensitive topic. http://hardcandymovie.com/
  5. QUOTE(Brian @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 02:39 PM) Went and caught "United 93" this afternoon. Very well made. The majority of the film is 9/11 from the view point of air traffic control which I thought was interesting. The first hour is them edited with United 93 boarding, waiting on the runway, etc. The film only contains events that we know happened on the plane based on phone calls and such. For the first hour, I had an uneasy feeling in my stomach. Just the suspense building up from what inevitably was going to happen. I agree with all the critics in that it is well done, does not exploit anything, and is a movie, if you can handle it, should be seen. Is it just a re-enactment on a time line? If so, how is it different than say a Dateline piece? I haven't seen the film and I'm not challenging you to defend your liking it. I'm just curious.
  6. QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 29, 2006 -> 08:42 AM) Nirvana ( and I liked them A LOT ) get too much credit for the death of "hair metal". The thing is, hair metal was killed by the recording industry, the same way the industry kills every other musical trend. By signing every single hair band out there, no matter how terrible, they oversaturated the market and made everyone sick of the genre. (Let the record show, however, that I personally was never a fan of the "lighter" metal. While others were going to Bon Jovi and Poison shows, I was seeing Testament, Metallica and bands of that ilk.) Nirvana just happened to have the first really catchy song of the next trend. When Nevermind first came out, every metal and punk fan that I knew had the album and loved it. It's only in hindsight that this hatred gets put on Cobain by metalheads. and I must repeat, big hair or not, GnR was NOT a hair-metal band. Not in any way, shape or form. Oh I totally agree, Nirvana was just symbolic in terms of the changing of the guard. 'Alternative' or 'grunge' or 'underground' or 'indie' or whatever you wanna call it had always been around, it just never sold. In terms of commercial success and finally putting it on the board, Nirvana was the hair metal killer. Henry Rollins put it best, "it was revenge of the nerds." I agree about GnR, 'Appetite' is a classic.
  7. Thx for the help everyone. You guys rock
  8. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) I'm just surprised that so many people have not heard this phrase used before, I've heard Hawk use it during Sox broadcasts on numerous occations. C'mon, really?
  9. I seem to remember him making commnets along those lines last year, but I don't think it'll happen. Ozzie has a lot of respect for the game and it's players.
  10. I cannot remember the last time Jenks Kd a guy with the hook. Very, very good to see.
  11. QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 09:59 PM) Great topic. Guns N Roses is decidedly not a "hair" band. Best band of the late '90s. When I think of hair bands, I picture Kip Winger. I think you mean best band of the late 80's. 'Appetite' came out in '87 and it was all down hill from there for them. 'Bleach' by Nirvana came out in '89 and thank God that was the beginning of the end for hair bands.
  12. 4 k's for Jimmy eh? How soon til the 'We want Frank back' thread goes up?
  13. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 11:37 PM) Turn off your TV and go about what you were doing 20 min ago. if I do that, I'll be too drunk to tune back in and get a final.
  14. 'Makeup or not, I'll still pee in their butts.' I've had a s***ty Friday so far, thx for the laugh.
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 03:48 PM) Thats the thing, sometimes you just have to lay down the law. Tell her your point of view, and tell her that the coddling will stop, and that she needs to make a choice. Sometimes thats what it takes. Of course leave that up to your own discretion. But I have a friend who was getting beaten by her boyfriend, and it took us stopping our friendship for her to finally snap out of it. Thx Rock. You're allright, I don't care what everyone else says about you in PMs.
  16. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 03:39 PM) People like that never figure it out, until they figure it out. Its a life lesson she has to learn by herself. I was in a relationship for many years where people would tell me it was no good, and that I should get out, but I never saw it for what it was until I did it myself. I think you're right, but my problem is that I honestly get tired of the same boo-hoo crap from her probably twice a week. I don't know how to be a friend to her about it.
  17. Help. What advice would you give to a woman who is involved with someone who she shouldn't be involved with? My (female) friend is single, he is married. He of course continues to string her along with the usual BS that he's 'in the process'' of leaving his wife. This has gone on for years. She is an otherwise extremely bright person, who has fallen deeply in love with a sumbag. How can someone so frickin bright be so frickin stupid? I suppose with matters of the heart there is no bright or stupid, we just fall in love, or am I making excuses for her? I have on a few ocassions told her to wake up and realize that the relationship will never happen. Mostly though, I just let her cry on my shoulder. I'm torn between telling her that I don't want to know anything else about this particular part of her life, but I feel like that's not what friends do. What would you do?
  18. QUOTE(Wanne @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 01:49 PM) Great read....good stuff! Is it just me...but don't you think they could find a better greeting party? Holly Madison, Bridget Marquardt and Kendra Wilkinson. Guess I'm just not into blonds. I agree, wash off the war paint and you have three slightly above average looking women.
  19. QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 12:26 PM) Another chance to break out the old spandex??? I know that would be Kid's reason..... :finger LMAO. Every day is a good day for spandex.
  20. QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) That band does BIG business. It's cheesy as hell, but people seem to want to hear that stuff. I'm not one of those people, but whatever, good luck to 'em. Oh I agree 100%, I'd go see them again, but for my own reasons.
  21. I saw a cover band called 'Hairbanger's Ball' a few summers ago at some street fest. They went through all the hair band hits. We laughed our asses off the entire time at not only the band, but at the people really, really getting into it.
  22. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Apr 28, 2006 -> 10:51 AM) Where were all the other playmates. I always pictured the mansion with like topless women walking around 24/7....swimming, playing volleyball and such. Are you telling me BA couldn't get a game of volleyball going or at least teach them some of the finer exercising techniques of the modern day ballplayer. Running....Feet over head stretch...or HELLO...JUMPING JACKS?? Now I know why the dude keeps striking out...he has a bad approach. Yep, the whole whipping the ball over her head was lame.
  23. GnR was NOT a hair band, 'Appetite' is a f***in' classic, Slash rules, Axl blows. Hair bands all suck.
