wow, thx Heads. I don't know why it's taken everyone so long to realize the magnitude of this sutation. Four days ago, I said N.O. was done. Oh, by the way, the Holiday weekend is here. I'm sure everyone is just gonna jump up and give up a 3 day weekend to help these people.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 12:12 PM) I just heard Nagin's comments on CNN. WOW What'd he say??
-
QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) That's very true, but the Clash always took those types of risks musically, as far back as something like White Man In Hammersmith Palais or covering Police and Thieves. I'd say one of the more "punk rock" things they did was to record a straight-up pop song like Train In Vain, although it kinda backfired when the song became a hit and the punks backlashed on them big-time. They'll always be one of my Top Ten bands, for sure. Train In Vain is my least favorite Clash songs.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 11:46 AM) Perhaps, but I didn't like either of those songs. The more "urban" they got, the less I liked them. Give me the 3 minute blasts of guitars and spitting lyrics and I'm fine. I see your point and mostly agree, but in terms of their sound taking a turn in that direction, it was a very punk rock thing to do. Just as everyone got comfy with the 3 minute blasts, they said, oh yeah? well try THIS. That attitude of, f*** you, I'll do what I want, how I want, IS punk rock. Those guys branched off and damn near made dance music with their later bands. Whether you like the sound or not is a matter of opinion, but I always dug their willingness to change and lack of fear of failure.

QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 11:09 AM) Yeah, but I'm a poor student. Five dollars at the regular theater is a bit much when I can wait a month and see it for a buck. Ah, ok, didn't understand your sutation. My bad.
-
Ha, just wait for the political s***storm as people begin to wonder what we'd do in case of another major terrorist attack? You think these people have gone nuts? Wait til the next disater of any kind, think will people have faith in Gov. to help them out. Hopefully, from now on people leave, if they can, when asked to.

A FEMALE? CAN IT BE? Welcome.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 10:52 AM) I just don't understand how the state government of LA and the federal government can be so unorganized. Wasn't there an emergency plan for if one of the levees broke? Have you seen their Gov. on tv these past few days? She's clueless. Apparently no plan was in place. Not only that, but for years and years experts have been asking to have the levees rebuilt and nothing got done.
-
QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) Maybe at the dollar theatre. Can't see myself paying much more for it. Although I think Rachel Weiscz usually does very good movies. Man, tough room. One dollar won't even get you VHS rental nowadays. They're saying Oscar buzz, so it's probably above average to good.
-
Exactly, there are only 4 real rock bands and everyone else has just been ripping them off chord for chord for all these years, right KG? wink-wink.
-
Anyone gonna see "The Constant Gardner"? The critics are all over it's nuts.
-
QUOTE(Spiff @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) Yeah they're purely instrumental, I found it at Newbury Comics. Any mid-sized record store should have it. YEP, I saw them about a year ago. Kinda strange to see a purely instrumental rock band in a live setting. I wasn't blown away, but I'll never forget them.
-
A shortage of money is NOT the problem. Being unorganzied, having no plan in place, passing the buck, and flat out not giving a s*** is the problem.
-
'The Maginficent Seven' and 'Radio Clash' were THE most punk rock things a punk bad has ever done.
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) It embarasses me as an American that this situation has become what it is. Shameful.

Sox added a bat at the deadline.............

If Juanito can do this for 3 consecutive weeks, I might be convinced. Until then, I'm not gonna starch my shorts over it. -

QUOTE(Spiff @ Sep 2, 2005 -> 12:45 AM) 1) I read an article in AP about Ian Curtis's last days a few months ago. Really chilling stuff, comments from the band about how they didn't have any idea what was going on with him. I don't care if Joy Division/New Order gets a ton of pub, they spawned a whole (latent) generation of imitators. 2) Pelican - The fire in our throats will beckon the thaw = awesome album. I think I saw Pelican about a year ago open for someone else at The Bottom Longue. Are they purely instrumental?? Where'd you find their latest record?

Spoke to a friend who lives in Houston last night. She said some of the residents down there are not exactly thrilled to have these people there. Supposedly some of them have been roaming around asking for beer and cigarettes. It'll be interesting if things get tense or violent down there, because you can pack heat in Texas and a lot of people do. That's Bush country, there will be no anarchy down there.
-
I'm with you Kelly Wunsch, err, I mean Ross. Pack it up and go be a .300 hitting starter elsewhere, where they appreciate you.

After a 7 hour ride on busses without A-C during which people were passing out, they are now being turned away at the Houston Astrodome....wow.
-
QUOTE(56789 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 11:00 PM) CNN is reporting the Astrodome isnt letting anyone in and there are no where near the 25K they said they could take in. They also reported a death has occured inside. Yep, did you see the tourists who said they got out by crossing a bridge on foot only to be stopped at gun point by police telling them they had to stay? WTF is going on down there? They said 60% of the N.O. police force walked off the job. ...and we wonder why people are going nuts down there. I tell you one thing, if I haven't had food or water in 4 days and my family is dying and the gov. can't help me, you better believe I'm kicking a store window in and taking food and water. And if I walk through s*** water for 4 days, finally almost get out of town, only to have police tell me I can't leave, AT GUNPOINT, they're gonna have a situation on their hands. You'd best believe it.
-
I understand the anger towards the violence, but there is this vibe now of almost let's make these people look like they deserve all of this. First by saying they should have left and secondly, by painting them as ghetto animals. Makes you wonder how this country would react to a bio terrorist attack. Apparently, some places are NOT ready.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) what's the federal government doing? reporters on the ground are saying that people are beginning to pass out from dehydration and dysentary. If the reporters can get there... What about dropping food and water from planes or helicopters? Do they mean to tell us that people who survived the actual storm are now going to die from lack of food or water basically stranded on an island formerly known as New Orleans??!!

QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 04:01 PM) for me, crooked rain, crooked rain slightly edges out slanted and enchanted...then it goes wowee zowee, terror twilight, and brighten the corners...i don't dislike any pavement album...which is pretty ridiculous when i think about how few bands i can say that about. I agree Crooked and Slanted are both solid. What's new that I should get my hands on? Any recommendations?
