Any guesses on what the final death toll will be in just N.O. when it's all done?

QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) i got the dears album but i haven't listened to it... brits say that pavement sounds like the fall for basically one song...(conduit for sale) and that malkmus was a huge fan of the fall. Also the fact that mark e. smith made some comment about malkmus riding in a corvette? i unno...its a dumb argument but its been made... yeah, of muse, travis, and coldplay...muse is the only radiohead ripoff i get mildly entertained my... now MEW on the other hand...is aceeeee I'm not a fan of any of that stuff, really. It just doesn't move me at all. Pavement I like a lot. "Slanted and Enchanted" is timeless.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) I will tell you tomorrow. My Limewire will be hooked up tonite Let it grow on you. It's not a grab you by throat record. Might take a few listens, it did for me anyway. Now I really like it. It's my new Sunday morning, reading the paper, drinking coffee, brousing through Sox Talk record.

Speaking of The Killers, the Cure, The Smiths.... etc, does anyone like The Dears? Their last record has grown on me slowly, but in a very big way. It's kind of Morrissey-esque, with slight hints of jazz and trip hop. Anyone?

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) Wow. Along with Dr. John, Fats is prettty much the living embodiment of New Orleans musical spirit. Harry Connick Jr. has been down there.......trying to help I guess.

QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 02:29 PM) that one doesn't get me as mad (when its used as a negative cause there obviously are similarities) when people say pavement ripped off the fall (WHich came from maybe three songs in their entire catalogue) Who says that? It's not even close.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 02:49 PM) Well, this is from the guy who always seems to show up a day or two late for national tragedies. Ouch. Can you imagine what it will be like there by Monday??

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) Yeah, it's not like they ordered the first ever total evacuation of the city or anything. In 2 days, they couldn't go neighborhood to neighborhood and drive a lot more people out by force? Time will tell that they had no solid plan in place for this. I understand that there will always be some loss of life, but this extent is ridiculous.....what's going on now is an even bigger joke. Bush says they'll have 24,000 troops in N.O. by next week, next week?

QUOTE(winodj @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) Is anyone wondering why aid wasn't better planned? How about prevention of loss of life?? N.O. has known they were a disaster waiting to happen. They KNEW the storm was gonna hit hard. They had 2 days of advance warning. They could have ordered everyone out of town and bussed them out if neccesary. Someone dropped the ball big time. This could have been a clean up mission, instead they're trying to save lives and collect bodies. Not be funny, but it looks like frickin' Haiti down there right now.

QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 02:06 PM) AHCVHRFHGHGHGHRHRHRHRGHGHGHGHGH... no, they sound like a bunch of early 80's bands not exclusively Joy division, plus they don't use synthesizers...Patrick wolf sounds like joy division cause he has a deep voice and uses synthesizers sometimes!...no, interpol was an integral part of a scene which influenced interpol but interpol is not joy division 05...and even if they are... i like joy division. I was -6 when ian curtis committed suicide. That makes me feel old. haha, in glastonbury(?), when death from above came on early for some other band, the crowd was booing, and the drummer/lead singer said "I gave Ian Curtis a backstage pass and he didn't show up...he's soooo dead" .... i found it funny.... LOL, Joy Division and Interpol fans hate that comparison. I like JD and really like Interpol.

This is getting ridiculous. You mean to tell me that in the U.S., we can't do a better job of rescuing people. Why didn't they force people out days before it hit? Why not send all the resource needed to get everyone out, even if by force? It's anarchy down there. http://msnbc.msn.com/id/9156612/

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) Hey, im 27. I was barely 2 when Ian died. here is to your "youngins" :finger I feel personally attacked, wah. Kinda related, the other day it hit me that the dude from The Killers sometimes kinda sounds like Robert Smith of The Cure.
-
QUOTE(bmags @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 01:51 PM) go get 24 hour party people...I love ian curtis' voice/lyrics, i like new order, but i absolutely love joy division, closer and unknown pleasures are just awesome...'love will tear us apart' is prolly one of the best songs ever...it kind of gets annoying how praised they are in some circles because some people feel every band post 1980 ripped off joy division ...i hate those people... anyways...i'm pretty excited to see the hold steady but the constantines live...really is just amazing. ....or pick up an Interpol record.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 10:46 PM) I'm a scumbag and I don't even approve of this ensemble that Jessica Simpson is 'wearing'...Does the whore apparel signify the beginning of the decline of her career? :headshake LOL. What happened to that nice rump she had? It's gawn. She kinda looks like Elizabeth Shue in that pic.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 01:21 PM) The strange processes of my brain: Im listening to my Ipod, and the song "Dead Souls" by Nine Inch Nails(on The Crow soundtrack) comes on. Its one of my favorites, and I remembered that it was a cover from a late 70's band called Joy Division, and that the lead singer had died somehow. So naturally i googled Joy Division to get the story on the band. Much to my surprise, I found out that when the lead singer of Joy Division died in 1980, the remaining members stayed together and became New Order. You find out something new and cool every day. I have been a New Order fan for quite some time, and I had no idea of the connection to Joy Division. Youngins. :headshake ,

QUOTE(Texsox @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 10:37 AM) The beauty of it is, they will point to all the shooting around them as justification why they needed their gun. Better to have a gun and not need it, than to need a gun and not have it.
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) I saw on CNBC where they had to stop moving people from the Superdome because people were shooting at the helicopters. How messed up is that??? Saw that too. What's interesting to me is, of all the things that could have been salvaged, someone thought a gun was a neccesity.

My only problem with the article is he says 'other trades could have been made'. Really Jay? How the eff would you possibly know that? Cuz you can say "well, so and so would really help this team, or so and so's bat would give them a lift"? Here I thought money was involved and both sides and the player had to agree to terms. Come to find out, all you have to is pick and choose whoever you want and they magically fall into your lap, just like that, deal done. Thx Jay.

Speaking of Green Day, did I hear they are going to peform the entire 9 minute version of 'Blvd. of Broken Dreams' on Jimmy Kimmel?.....or have I just been more drunk than usual at night due to our team's slump? Maybe it was on Carson Daly.

Who woulda thunk that Sept 19, 20 and 21 at the Cell against Cleve. were possibly gonna be some of the biggest games of the regular season?

Score? Notice how Hawk has that same tone in his voice that he's had the past 4 Septembers? He's a company man, so he may not say it, but he's also a former player, so we can all guess what he's thinking.

Latest update by their mayor is that 'thousands' may be dead.
