QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 11, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) Stats aren't good. He struggled in Charlotte, and his last good season was back in 2000 IIRC going 7-1 4.43 ERA. That's what I thought, the guy is average at best. Why not use B-Mac for long middle relief. It would rest our starters and get B Mac some experience in the bigs.

what's the scouting report on Walker, stats?

QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 11, 2005 -> 05:37 AM) Royals fans (what little there are) have wanted this guy gone for awhile now. I guess he was making alot of bone-headed decisions. Like GUARANTEEING (

QUOTE(The Critic @ May 11, 2005 -> 01:37 PM) Both teams put way too much importance on the "City Series", in my opinion. If anything, the Cubs should worry about aligning their rotation for Cardinals matchups. Although I think aligning your rotation for a series two weeks away is goofy anyway. You most important game is the next one on the schedule. I seem to remember Manuel setting up his rotation like a month before the Cubs series as well. It seems like the team that is making a run at winning the division cares about it less. If your playing poorly, like they are right now, the only thing left to play for in your season is Cubs vs. Sox.

The only 2 guys who don't make me nervous in the pen right now are Hermy and Politte. Cotts? lead off walk boy Marte? Walk boy part 2, is one HR away from Koch-land. Viz? Sorry, iffy on him too. Shingo? quickly turning into LaChoy, can/will he turn it around? Not cause for major alarm yet, but I see the majority of our ballgames being close in the later innings, so the pen is a concern. I say let Politte try a few 8th or even 9th innings.

I know Dye has been horrible, no one expected THAT, but I wonder what everyone was really expecting. The guy is a career .270 hitter and hasn't hit that well in like 4 years. Decline.

May be old news, but heard this on pregame

Ah, the ole secretive disciplinary wink-wink actions, eh? Now I certainly feel better about having a game (maybe 2) stolen from us in Oakland. -
LaToya=super tanned Koch.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 11, 2005 -> 02:42 AM) Trade Byung-Yung to the Flubs. We could sucker them. I honestly rather have Hawkins because Ozzie wouldn't use him in closer situations. KW would fire him on the spot if he did that. Sucker the Flubs. Ok, you must be Mrs. Hawkins, cuz that must be the 5th time this week you mention wanting to get LaTroy. The guy is probably worse at his job right now than anyopne else in MLB is at theirs. You keep saying that he's not a closer and that we'd use him as a set up guy. That's fine, but notice that just about every game we've played has been a close one. Point? Even if LaTroy was used only in the 7th or 8th innings, chances are the score will be close anyway. Right now, a close game cannot be trusted to LaTroy. Sure he's had success as a set up guy in the past and maybe he'd regain that form on the southside, but it's just too damn risky. not gonna happen.

Male 35 born and raised on the Southside currently residing 10 mins. from Wrigley. Lots of people in their 30's here, which surprises me for some reason.

Critics=people with an opinion, gee what a tough gig.

QUOTE(Steff @ May 10, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) I don't remember what the cause was.. but I remember her having to wear a patch for what seemed like months. Does it itch? Thinking about it makes my eyes itch. Very little pain to eye itself, but a mean headache for like a day. My recovery consisted of lying flat on my back (with no pillow) for at least 16 hours a day for 4 days, little by little they have you do it for less and less hours each day. I thought I was gonna lose my mind. I wore a huge gauze for 2 days and it itched like crazy and looked like hamburger for like 2 weeks. Then you begin to heal pretty quickly. Some people have it worse, they have to lie FACE DOWN.

QUOTE(Steff @ May 10, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) Wow.. good thing they caught it for you then. Weird thing.. my grama was 67 when they found hers. She never even needed glasses before then. I hope I am blessed with her vision. That's very strange about your grandma, because unless you are extremely near sighted or took a blow to the head, like boxers, they are very, very rare. The recovery sux.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ May 10, 2005 -> 04:04 PM) Ahhh.. my grama had one. She is a bus driver and she was able to hold off on having the surgery until the school year ended. Her's definitely must have not been anywhere as bad as yours. Did yours hurt..? She said she didn't even know anything was even wrong with hers.. Nope, no pain, no symptoms, I went in for a routine eye exam and (luckily) they found it. I am extremely near sighted, so I'm high risk for them. Your grandma is a tough lady, lol.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ May 10, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) Why is that..? It usually doesn't get worse.. and it doesn't hurt. I'm sure it was up to Hawk when to have the surgery. I had the same surgery in Nov. A partial retinal detachment gets worse and worse and if left untreated will lead to blindness. The catch is that they have no way of telling how long your vision will be stable and usually don't want to gamble. When the Dr. told me I had one, they wanted to operate that same night and mine was not a severe one. I wanted to hold off on my surgery and he said 'you could literally wake up tomorrow and be blind in that eye.' They operated on me the following morning. For some reason, they must have thought Hawk's was not urgent. ....but I digress.
-
QUOTE(Steff @ May 10, 2005 -> 03:15 PM) Robin mentioned it during his broadcast in ST, so I would say that Hawks surgery was known about then. That's strange that they would have delayed that kind of surgery for over a month.

I saw the video this morning, it's like out of a movie. Funny thing is, they only hit the guy like 4 times. Didn't a guy in Chicago recently get shot like 20+ times by the police... and lived.

QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ May 10, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) Yup, where Ventura was monotone, Pall sounded like a guy sitting in the stands talking baseball with one of his buddies. I guess we really shouldnt expect more from these guys as I dont believe they have any interest in making this a career and have simply decided to fill in for a few days. Pall sounds like a 105 year old man on his death bed. With coaching, you'd be surprised how much some guys improve. Remember the 1st few times Magic Johnson had a mic in his face?
-
QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ May 10, 2005 -> 02:59 PM) I thought he did alright, but has he ever heard of a rising inflection of one's voice? Hes very monotone, and if your not careful you could be put to sleep listening to the smooth sounds of the Robin Ventura behind a microphone. EXACTLY, it's not so much what Ventura and Pall say, it's how they say it. You'd think they'd get some coaching.

It would be nice to take the next two from TB and face the O's with some momentum going. Don't look now, but the O's dominated the Twinkies yesterday.
-
I've read it three times and still can't picture what exactly happened. Not that it's any consolation, but that family is gonna get major bank.

Get used to it, it will happen all year. If the Sox play well against a team, it MUST mean that the other team actually sux, no matter what else that other team has done all year. If we beat them, they must suck. If we win the division, well the division must suck. If we make it to the ALCS, well then the AL must have a lot parity this year. If we win the AL, well the AL must be watered down this year. Can't you follow the logic?

QUOTE(sircaffey @ May 9, 2005 -> 05:17 PM) Yep, that's the problem...We all talk about adding a bat, but in reality who do we get rid of? Crede possibly but a Vinny Castilla type really isnt much of an upgrade at the moment. Dye has shown signs of breaking out. It seems as though we would have tons of holes with how bad the offense has been, but we really don't have a glaring hole like last year at the deadline or the year before that. .......and remember we will also have a little decison to make once Frank comes back. So, yeah, I keep hearing a bat, but where? Too soon to tell, maybe it will keep the team even more motivated.
