  1. what do you guys see happening? i would not be surprised to see a major roster overhaul. given some of his quotes during the year, i have a feeling that this isn't ozzie's kind of team in terms of roster composition. do you think kw would get shown the door? who stays, who goes?
  2. as i said, take it fwiw. here's the clip. it's from this morning's columbus dispatch in their "rumblings" column. i'd link but it's a pay site: "The Texas Rangers have been looking for a starting pitcher and one call they made was to Reds general manager Dan O'Brien. But the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports that O'Brien told the Rangers he wouldn't part with Paul Wilson or Cory Lidle, who are free agents after the season. Chief operating officer John Allen told the Cincinnati Enquirer last week that fans needn't fear a repeat of last season's fire sale, during which seven veterans were trade in July and August. "The situation is totally different than last year," Allen said.
  3. loaiza's been the master of sucking lately, that's about it.
  4. in the newspapers out here today the reds gm said he's not trading lidle or wilson. take that fwiw.
  5. i actually think you'd have to give up similar kinds of prospects for kendall, hairston and catalanotto. even though kendall is probably a far better player than the other two, the pirates would probably give him away due to his brutal contract. honestly i could see kendall getting through waivers after the deadline.
  6. no doubt jim rome's a douchebag, but to be fair i've heard him give the sox some props when no one else was talking about them.
  7. hopefully not the one from naperville. he's like 55 years old. helluva pinch-hitter, tho.
  8. i pretty much heard about the board from a couple of guys who post here, mainly chisoxfan, bmags and the cheat. i'd posted with those guys on the bears boards and nfl-fans. for whatever reason i never checked it out, but last week i was bored and came over. pretty cool outside of all the reactionary people, but you'll have that.
  9. i wouldn't trade him yet unless it was a helluva deal and someone really wanted him. he reminds me a lot of garland — really good stuff, but a lack of focus sometimes gets him off his game. having been through the whole garland thing (waiting, waiting, bueller...) i have reservations about hanging around and waiting for cotts. at the same time, he is a talent. my thought is this: make a decision in the offseason whether you want him to start or relieve. if you want him to start, start him in spring as a starter and leave him there until he fails miserably, or succeeds. if you put him in the pen, define his role and leave him in the pen. i've not seen anything out of him that tells me he's prepared to shift roles midseason, at least at this point of his career.
  10. well, the white sox do have a winning record against the twins this year. 7-6, iirc. i would say the sox have a better starting rotation. yes, radke and santana were nails down here, but the sox beat both of them up there, so at this point it's a wash. down 3-4-5, i think the sox are better, even though loaiza, garland and schoeneweis have been inconsistent. you'd find the same inconsistency if you look at the numbers of greisinger, silva and the various fifth starters they've used. of course, this could change if the twins get benson, although i have my doubts about his effectiveness against the american league. elsewhere, i think the teams are fairly even. when the sox are hitting well (and no doubt they've been extremely streaky) there are few better hitting teams. even without maggs and frank the sox have shown the ability to have some good offensive showings. to be honest, i think it remains to be seen who's a better team. last year was last year and i don't believe it's an accurate frame of reference. there are six games remaining between these teams and ultimately i think those will decide who is better. i believe it will be the sox because when the evidence is fairly equal, i'm going with my guys.
  11. i was too busy looking at torrie wilson's cans to pay attention to anything those douchebags were talking about.
  12. silver and black baby. gotta love it.
  13. fwiw, here's the remaining teams the sox and twins will play. i think it's worth noting that the sox have two more series left with the twins, and those will probably be more crucial than this last one. here goes... twins get: boston, anaheim, oakland, seattle, cleveland, yankees, cleveland, texas and anaheim, texas, kansas city, baltimore, detroit, chicago, baltimore, chicago, cleveland, yankees, cleveland. sox get: detroit, kansas city, cleveland, kansas city, boston, detroit, boston, detroit and cleveland, philly (one game), oakland, seattle, texas, anaheim, minnesota, detroit, kansas city, detroit, kansas city of particular note is the fact the sox have four more series with the royals, possibly the worst team in baseball right now. the twins see kc once more.
  14. you know, i'm slow like that. rolleyeyes.gif boy this series f***ing sucked.
  15. is this THE chisoxfan of nfl-fans/bears board fame?
  16. the sox have had a hard time doing the little things for the past four or five years. they fired two managers to get them to do the little things, to no avail. a common theme going into every season is that the sox will do the little things better, yet this goal never seems to have any sustained life. it seems to me that the white sox have a fair amount of players with low baseball iq's. they are talented, no doubt, but that talent gets drained by the mental errors that get made on a regular basis. this is what this team is and i really don't think that they're going to learn to be smart ballplayers at this point. i still think the sox can win this division, but it worries me that i am seeing the same mistakes over and over and over again. really, i've been seeing them since about 2001.
  17. there's a lot of blame to go around.
  18. i wonder how aaron miles would have fit in on this team. i think the uribe-miles trade was pretty equal, but miles has had a nice year with the rockies. he doesn't have as many home runs as uribe (13-4), but he does have less strikeouts (27-64), a better on-base percentage (.332-.323) and a better average (.304-.266). admittedly, miles has 18 less at-bats and has played in six fewer games. i always liked him as a prospect, though, and thought he'd fit well with this team because he somewhat offset the power-hitting with a small-ball style of ball.
  19. i'm not surprised to see diaz's name listed. his biggest trouble when he came up was with his command, which is what you'll see from a lot of young players. i think he has pretty good stuff, though, and imo you can probably pencil him into the rotation next year in loaiza's spot.
  20. i don't think it's a lack of heart. i think it's guys pressing and trying too hard to make something happen.
  21. although i have confidence in this team and think they'll be fine, i can understand where people are coming from. the past few years haven't exactly given sox fans reason to have faith when things get ugly. it's difficult to have supreme confidence when you don't have a lot of recent history to base it on.
