  1. that's the 31st-straight time buerhle's gone at least six innings.
  2. buerhle was freakin dealing today. how long was that game anyway?
  3. likes: just about everything. dislikes: sox fans who s*** their pants every time ozzie tinkers with the line-up.
  4. not too bad for a guy with a broken foot.
  5. steve stone was on local radio here yesterday and said the same thing. basically said the sox will be a better and more consistent offensive team than anyone has given them credit for. also called iguchi the "prototypical two-hole hitter" or something to that affect. stone was very positive about the sox and thought they'd improved their defense as well. he was sketchy on the starting pitching.
  6. burke, or widger? famine, or pestilence?
  7. who gives a f*** what any of those assholes say. they can kiss my ass.
  8. just for the record, phillips did hammer the cubs pretty hard as well, although i didn't really agree with what he said there, either.
  9. he's the one who gave mo vaughn all that jack, iirc.
  10. phillips had a number of gems this morning on mike and mike after greenberg told him he was seriously considering selecting the sox to win the central. among the gems, he called aaron roward a "semi-regular fourth outfielder." did this guy pay any attention last year? to further taint his credibility, in the next breath he hailed the nationals' signing of loaiza. i'm not one to get worked up about national media, but that was just retarded. this guy is stealing money if this is the depth of his analysis.
  11. i think i'd be disappointed if they didn't get to the final four. anything can happen once you get there.

i got laid last week. it was great. definitely better than not getting laid.
  13. winning would help. otherwise it's difficult to be overly optimistic. i really like the moves the sox made this offseason and i commend kw for being creative and overhauling the team without adding salary. but recent history makes it difficult to make any grand projections as to what this team is going to accomplish.
  14. we might as well get used to this because it's what we're going to see until the season starts. i doubt anyone is going to rank us any higher than third in the division, and i'd bet even a few people will put the tigers ahead of us. the twins are the twins and have been better than us so they deserve to be ahead of us. a lot of the baseball analysts have had a hard-on for the indians prospects for the past few years so it makes sense they'd predict the tribe's imminent rise. the tigers improved last year and added two potentially big pieces. our biggest offseason move was trading away arguably our best hitter for a middle reliever and a guy coming off a bad year. as a sox fan, i realize how important that deal was, and the fact that it freed us up to make a bunch of smaller moves that probably bettered the team while staying within budget constraints. however, i doubt most prognosticators will look that deeply into it.
  15. definitely one of my favorite all-time sox. very cool guy, too. i remember waiting in line for about two hours for an autograph from him at chicago ridge mall in like 83 or 84. he was very cool for a guy who'd been gladhandling for a few hours.
  16. that's about the way i'd pick it. at this point i'd put the indians ahead of the sox, only because i have no feel for how the sox will perform with such a dramatically changed roster. i like the moves they've made, but as minoso said "you never know."
  17. i'm really interested to see how gonzalez progresses this year. if he continues his ascent and reaches the potential some say he has, he could register as a huge steal.
  18. surprising. i thought they might keep him around as insurance.
  19. i think you should be optimistic, but i also don't have any gauge at all whatsoever on how this team will fare. when you alter your roster as dramatically as the sox have, i think it's almost impossible to predict how they'll perform.
  20. larkin's agent said last week that he's most likely going to retire. the reds signed aurilia today, although i haven't seen a link anywhere. i did get an email from the reds p.r. department about it, though.
