Rafael Palmeiro
QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) it says he's suspended 10 games.... are we sure it's for roids? i would not be surprised if is was a supplement of some sort. if he tests positive for straight steroids, he's a huge f***ing idiot. i'm surprised they could find this through all the viagra, tho.

Rafael Palmeiro

after the deadline
considering the lack of activity in the trade market so far, i'm really wondering if we are going to see much more activity than normal after sunday's non-waiver deadline. the prime reason given for this lack of activity so far is the fact that so many teams are still in it, or at least think they are. it stands to reason that in the ensuing weeks following the deadline, teams on the fringe are going to fall out of the race and start trying to get rid of the guys they probably should have dealt beforehand. anyhow, what is the likelihood of the sox adding players later, and who could conceivably be available. i think the sox would have the last pick because of their record, which could keep them from getting someone who's already gone past 30-plus teams. i could be wrong on that, however.

Is anyone else getting tired...
it's probably a good thing to only have computer access for eight hours a day at times like this. it keeps the obsessive angle to a dull roar.

Burnett to be dealt for wagner?
QUOTE(palesox38 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) The Phillies have stated as late as today that Wagner is not available at all. i have a hard time believing anything coming out of the mouth of any organizational employee at this point. it's all spin, imo.

Phil Rogers on Trades
i hope phil has something to say that hasn't been kicked to death on this board for the past week, but i doubt it.

Shingo Time
QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 04:39 PM) I know, I know, playing armchair GM here, but I wonder if Kenny could package Shingo along with Willie for Ryan Freel. Why would the Reds be interested in Willie? He provides smiliar numbers and could slide into 2B on the depth chart for the next few years. Why would the Reds be interested in Shingo? Beats me. Perhaps they wouldn't mind taking on that contract if they felt it would help lead to more W's by setting up or closing out ballgames. freel would be a good fit. strangely enough i was thinking about him this morning when i heard he stole five bases last night.

Jenks
QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 12:27 AM) Yeah, pretty much whate they both said. His velocity was a bit down but he was snapping his curveball and it is good to know he has 2 phenominal pitches. He was still able to blow some away and then drop a deuce. i know what you meant but that's still funny.

alvarez leaving wisconsin?
scuttlebutt from the badger board is suggesting alvarez will resign today and coordinator brett bielema will take over as new head coach. alvarez will stay on as athletic director. the timing is very strange on this. no one seems sure if he's leaving now or next year, but why have a press conference today to announce something for next year?

This quote bugged me
the remainder of the quote (him talking about guys missing flights, blowing garland's win) leads me to believe that was a more remorseful statement than a complaint.

The calm before the storm?
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jul 28, 2005 -> 01:22 PM) The White Sox could really use some more bullpen help, and some more offense. I've never seen the point of acquiring Burnett............unless he nets you Wagner. i agree with this. although it would be nice to have a guy like burnett, numbers-wise he's negligibly better than the count, and that's pitching in a pitchers haven. to me, burnett and contreras are very similar - guys with great stuff who for whatever reason haven't had that stuff translate into wins or dominance. i'm not saying contreras is better than burnett, but i haven't through this entire process understood why we were so hot after him, unless as you mentioned he was subsequently spun to the phils for wagner.

Trade Cliff Politte?????????
QUOTE(VAfan @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:36 PM) Well, I guess some of Cliff's luster came off today, but I still wouldn't trade him this year. everybody has bad days and makes bad pitches. it does seem that lately he has not been quite as good as he was going for awhile.

Jayson Stark
this is what start had to say about burnett and the sox in espninsider. if posting this is a no-no i apologize in advance:

Is Kenny manipulating the market
i would hope he is working it. if he drives up the price of a few guys he really isn't interested in, then good for him. f*** those other teams.
-
Tick tock tick tock....
i still think that moves will be made, but i think the uncertainty over burnett is kind of holding other things up. i wish either kw or the marlins would s*** or get off the pot on this thing.

For those who complain about media perception
QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) Most of the sports media doesn't respect us in the morning or any other time for that matter. In the end what happens on the field is the only thing that matters. I'm not being original here, SS2K5 and others have said much the same thing. Ignore them and enjoy the ride. The White Sox could string together several WS championships and they still won't be "trendy" in the twisted world of sports journalism. So what? What time is the game tonite? Go Sox! i disagree somewhat. i think once you win a series you are naturally higher in peoples' perception, and the media in many respects reflects what the people think. a few years ago the angels were just another team, but since winning the series i do think they are viewed differently by fans and treated differently by the media.

For those who complain about media perception
QUOTE(UofIChiSox @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) I had to put it up, too many threads about national media disrespecting us, and not enough about them respecting us. nah. i wasn't addressing your thread. no worries.
