  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 07:58 PM) The 6-8 record in August is what should concern you. so is that enough evidence to dismiss everything else we've seen this season? fourteen games in one month is enough to discount four months of the best baseball this team has played? and again, i'm not claiming they are playing well right now. they're not. but just about every team - championship or otherwise - is going to have a bad month.
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 06:53 PM) Our pitching won us the Yank series. If you think putting up the aenmic effort against the Yanks starters was something to hold for confidence then you will be amused this weekend when the Yanks invade the Cell and some of those awsome plays that Arow had crashing into dead center at Yank stadium fly deep into that good night in the cell. Lets see if we can hold them to 2 runs this series. I think not. regardless, we won two out of three there at a time when our offense sucked. listen, i won't say we're playing great ball now because we aren't. but i'm not going to sit up here and cry because the team had the audacity to lose four straight games.
  3. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 05:47 PM) For all the glass half full people....what has happened since the ASB that makes you so confident? I just don't see it. a baseball season is long. these ebbs and flows are going to happen. no team has the pedal to the metal for 162. what has made me confident since the asb? probably the fact that even though we are playing like s*** we still took two of three in new york and swept cleveland in their park.
  4. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) Illinois is still in the running, per AAU coach. radio reports out of kc suggest rush will commit to kansas tomorrow.
  5. brandon rush and ken griffey jr. are really cutting down on my work productivity.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 01:26 PM) Yeah, what idiots to actually ask for something in return that could help their team. I never understood why the Reds would have even considered a deal centered around Young and Rogo. That team needs pitching, pitching, and more pitching. this goes beyond this deal. they are clueless on many levels. besides, the reds need everything. rogo and young would be upgrades over anything else they have in their system at first base or in the outfield. and they've needed pitching, pitching and more pitching for years, and have acquired tee-stand after tee-stand in trade and free agency. they are clueless because two prospects, hell even one prospect would to more for the future of their organization. the reds define themselves as a small-market ballclub. small-market ballclubs can not have guys making what griffey is making. it has skewed their salary structure to the point where they can not acquire legitimate pitchers, nor can they resign any of the decent players (dunn, kearns, casey) they have when their deals are up. clueless. ask any reds fan.
  7. QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ Aug 17, 2005 -> 01:18 PM) NBC sports last night, said the trade for Griffey wont happen because the Reds are asking for a #1 starting pitcher in return. reds management is absolutely clueless.
  8. QUOTE(He_Gawn @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 07:48 PM) What the hell are you smoking? He'd get more at IU than ILL. i expect indiana to be much improved next season, but i think that statement is highly debateable. regardless of their play next year, illinois is coming off of a national title game appearance and will feature one of the most recognizable players in the nation. they will start the season ranked higher than iu, and imo will get more pub early on. whether that is maintained depends on their success, but i also think people are grossly underrating the kind of team illinois will have next year.
  9. i'm a big griffey fan and would love to see him here but it's not the end of the world if we go into the postseason with the roster we currently have. they haven't fared too badly this year, after all, and no one else has gotten markedly better either.
  10. QUOTE(HSC's Biggest Fan @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) If I am the Reds owner and the GM says we are getting Chris Young and Rogo... oh and we are paying $4M a year to get rid of Griffey, I as the owner may say right now. Hell no. Then as a week or so goes buy and more diliberations go by the owner realizes maybe this is a good idea. The thing is the Reds owner really has nothing to lose by nixing the original deal, they are not in the hunt and can trade him in the offseason. Now after a couple of weeks he may be convinced that this is in the Reds best offer. My thought is JR is now involved and future money and what not is the issue. Also there does not seem to be a fan backlash in Cinncy over the idea of trading him. Another ownership concern. it does not make sense at all for the reds to keep griffey. he's a luxury item on a team that has a strapped payroll. plus they have more than enough outfield prospects where they could easily fill that spot. this move makes so much sense for them. the problem is, carl lindner is a flocking idiot.
  11. QUOTE(Whitesoxfan56 @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) what about the indians, i dont know there financial status, but adding jr to a team that is 3 out of the WC could give them the lift they need to get to the playoffs. but like i said i dont know that the status of there financial problems are. please fill me in the indians are not in position to add that kind of salary. their attendance is way down, and their owner has been crying poor ever since he bought the team from jacobs. no way they put in a claim.
  12. people always talk about pitchers going through a dead arm period. maybe pods has dead legs. anyone know if his steal rate decreased as the season went on when he was with the brew crew?
  13. no doubt. props for cotts as well. he was clutch today.
  14. QUOTE(TimB @ Aug 10, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) Thanks Southsider, That's interesting. I could have completely misinterpreted Stark (I'm not in the best shape at 7 AM...) although I do know he was convinced Griffey wouldn't move. i interpreted it the same way you did. he made no mention of the 40-man roster.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) To be honest I think some of the guys on here are more comfortable with their panties wedged firmly up their ass.
  16. i don't know why people get so fired up over guys like gammons, levine, ofman etc. chicago is a competitive media market, which means that these guys are going to roll with what they here when they hear it. some deals pan out, some don't, but it does not mean that guys are just making things up. i can promise you that a guys like levine or offman are not going to go public with information that has absolutely no basis in fact. they'd lose total face with not only the public, but with their sources who would recognize them as unreliable and probably untrustworthy. neither of those guys would have jobs if their sources were not good, because you can bet their bosses know who those sources are.
  17. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 08:31 PM) Impressive either way. Thanks for the correct year. no problem.
  18. QUOTE(Steff @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 08:26 PM) Guessing.. sometime in the '60's. the ap story said that was the sox first four-game sweep in baltimore since 1954.
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 08:03 PM) If the Sox go 3-55 the rest of the season, Steve Phillips' prediction of a 72-90 season will be correct. LMFAO!
  20. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 08:01 PM) I wonder when the last time was that the Sox did that, it has to be a while. 1954
  21. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Aug 1, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) Soxtalk: Where viagra jokes come early and often. that's wrong.
