  1. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 11:14 PM) So Duhon is starting, thats good. the trib had him as a question mark today because of a bonebruise on his knee that he got after going knee to knee with Ray Felton the duke-carolina battle never ends.
  2. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 11:00 PM) As for me...I'll wait until these freshman aren't playing Division III athletes before I judge their potential. I know a main player on IWU, and for anyone to judge how the Illini players were against him is pretty odd to me. i'd agree with this. no matter what the talent, there's no way to judge how individual kids react as they move from one level to the next. i can understand criticism of weber's recruiting, but as an illinois fan its frustrating to see him hammered for this when all he's done at the school is win. down the line if the program tapers off and he can't sustain the recent run of success, then fine, criticism will be warranted. but to base criticism now on the largely inaccurate ratings of internet "gurus" is just crap, imo. as far as weber alienating people, i'd say it's a stretch to say weber has alienated any large group of aau or cpl coaches. he doesn't get along with butler, and he doesn't really like longstreet. other than that, i'd say he has a good working relationship with those guys, certainly not as bad as kruger's was. ask simeon's coach what he thinks of weber and illinois.
  3. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) I've heard very good things about him. Even though most Illini fans I know want him to fail, I've heard he's looked great in practice and has an excellent chance at starting sooner, rather than later. yeah, some illini fans aren't too happy. but oh, well. kids make decisions for their own reasons and i have a difficult time faulting them for those decisions. i know i would not want my actions as a 17 year old up for analysis on a message board.
  4. how has bobby frasor been faring so far for the heels? i'd read somewhere he was going to start. hat's off to a fellow southsider if that's the case.
  5. QUOTE(fathom @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) So you're saying he just started to recruit illegally once he went to Kansas? The thing I don't get when Illini fans b**** that Self is cheating now is that it would also implicate that he cheated in signing Deron, Dee, etc. at least this illini fan does not think self cheats, or is cheating. he's just a very good recruiter and i think he works the system very well. here's how i see it: bill self's recruiting>bruce weber's recruiting bill self's coaching bill self's recruiting war bucknell.
  6. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Nov 5, 2005 -> 01:02 PM) f*** f*** f*** f***... Here is what I kind of mentioned, but wasn't sure on the details... http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti.../511050439/1069 that sucks for indiana. white is a nice player, but i do agree they have better depth to handle something like this now.
  7. i had an uncle with parkinson's. it is not pretty near the end. the sad thing is that much like lou gehrig's disease, parkinson's does not extensively affect your mind, just your motor skills. you end up trapped in a deteriorating body, aware of everything yet powerless to help yourself. i wish ali nothing but the best. my prayers go out to him.
  8. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 08:42 PM) The biggest concern with Jamar is defense and size. He has as polished an offensive game as i've ever seen from an incoming freshman out of HS, but he's skinny as a rail and not a great defender, so I worry about if he can handle the punishment he will surely get in the big 10. the good thing about that is he can easily add those things through a weight training program and coaching from one of the better defensive coaches out there in weber. his offensive gift cannot be taught.
  9. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 05:57 PM) To be fair the Weber can't recruit argument is mostly the fact that he hasn't landed highly ranked guys. The guys he has brought in do look like players and how the gurus missed on Jamar is beyond my comprehension. When he puts on some muscle and learns to play defense we have something very special. As for Chester I like him because he plays tough D and handles the ball well, although he is pretty limited offensively at this point, but for a backup PG he is fine. that is a good point. i guess it just gets frustrating to see so much stock placed in the opinions of internet "gurus" who compile these rankings. i am not saying they are meaningless, with a widespread and national pool of players to rank, accuracy is a question, imo.
  10. QUOTE(SnB @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 03:33 PM) both jamar and chester frazier were really impressive last night. Both so athletic and seem to have good basketball instincts. Both those freshmen are gonna get a ton of minutes this year. i was encouraged to read that both of these guys played well, particularly since neither were particularly high-rated prospects, and both have been used to support the old "bruce weber can't recruit" argument. if these guys turn out to be solid contributors this year, people might have to give credit where it's due. that said, it was an exhibition game against illinois wesleyan. i will withhold my excitement until they play well against some legitimate D1 teams.
  11. what a move by paulie. hope that douchebag mientkewicz was taking notes.
  12. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 06:44 PM) OMG!!! PAULIE JUST GAVE IT TO JERRY!!!!! f***ing awesome. what class.
  13. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 05:34 PM) I am getting my Uncle who made me into a Sox fan from a Cub Family..A Home jersey that says his name and 05 as the Number.. He was 9 in 59.. As for myself, I am regretting signing up for SI, Gettting the E-topps, Shirt, hootie and hat. a hat, shirt and probably sweatshirt. i'll probably ask for an ozzie jersey for christmas.
  14. QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 04:33 PM) Even though this team had great chemistry, a lot of times the worst thing a franchise can do is to bring back every single player from the championship team out of fear that losing a player would disrupt chemistry. totally agree. we are not going to capture what just happened next year. not saying we can't repeat or anything, but every team is different every year whether you bring everyone back or not. i want to see this club improved, and there are ways to do it. losing carl would be one, even though i totally appreciate his efforts. his place in sox history is permanent. his roster spot isn't.
  15. this is good s***. what a great way to blow off a friday.
  16. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Oct 28, 2005 -> 12:22 AM) If boosters were paying football recruits, what must the Illini baskeball team's payroll be? No wonder Dee Brown didn't go pro. recruit, not recruits. it was clear in the ncaa's investigation this was one player and one booster.
  17. just seeing that video with the tag at the bottom that says "world champions" is awesome. it just keeps hitting me in waves. we finally f***ing did it.
  18. jesus christ. they were paying players and still couldn't recruit good ones? what the f*** ron.
  19. i received a few grudgingly complimentary emails from friends who are cub fans. they are probably more happy for me than the sox, though. i do wish i was still living in chicago, though, because i can think of at least five cub fans i know from home who i'd like to tell to eat s*** today.
  20. it was something unintelligible - part scream, part cry, part laugh, part gibberish. i also jumped in the air and wrenched my back which kinda sucked. it hurts like hell today but it's a good pain.
  21. they are going to discuss kusilias on carmen and silvy after the break.
  22. they should have put a team photo on the box.
  23. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Oct 27, 2005 -> 03:45 PM) I remember this asshole over the summer bashing the Sox and saying on tape that if the White Sox were to win the World Series, he'd pay out of his own pocket to come on ESPN 1000 and be verbally assualted for 5 minutes. Is this guy still filling in for Dan Patrick? I would love to see one of us put this loud mouth Red Sox loving prick on the spot. he fills in for patrick from time to time, but he's a regular on the sports bash, an espn show that doesn't air in chicago. hopefully that turd burglar comes out and admits the error of his ways.
  24. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 26, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) Rubbing Alcohol with listerine mixed in for flavor. good times, good times.
