  1. all of those things you listed are great reasons why the sox would never get value for frank.
  2. i think we need to push garland back to the fifth starter spot by signing or trading for someone in front of him in the rotation. given the rumblings about the sox wanting to improve their pitching, i just can not foresee a scenario where we go into the season wondering who's going to fill the fifth starter role. give garland a shot there, and see if he can emerge. if the same s*** persists with him, i'd deal him next year.
  3. as sox fans i think we should all drink heavily and attempt to forget this season.
  4. prior to his start against detroit ozzie alluded to garcia not having his best stuff. this is probably something they've been aware of for awhile.
  5. illinois will win more than one game this year. that's about all i'm willing to predict.
  6. ruh-roh, another sox pitcher saying he wants to pitch for the cards. keep him away from buehrle.
  7. he has had a lot of arm trouble though.
  8. morneau is their future at first base and mientkewicz's contract is up after this season. i can't say they made themselves better, but they did at least get something instead of nothing for a guy who was not going to be on the roster next year.
  9. this is the most he's ever pitched. i'd bet he's got dead arm.
  10. i have no doubt they can do it but my god, we've gone over this so many times it's ridiculous. you look at the talent on the sox and it is, even without maggs and frank, probably the best in the division. you look at the schedule and see that the team has some winnable games and a pretty favorable schedule against teams it will, on paper at least, be far superior to. yet, those things never seem to coincide. this happened last year. just f***ing win.
  11. they just need to f***ing win and quit playing like stupid bastards.
  12. that's a lot of f***ing strikeouts.
  13. the sox haven't really put together a good streak all year, so you think they'd have one in them. of course, that's what i thought last year and the year before that and the year before that...
  14. i did notice yesterday they're still running the commercial with loaiza, buehrle and garcia.
  15. exactly. when manuel came on board there was a ton of hubbub about him bringing a "national league" style of baseball to chicago. to me a "national league" style equals what we'd refer to as "ozzieball" although some would just call it "good baseball." i don't think manuel's approach was let's hit a bunch of home runs, yet by the time he got canned he took heat for the team not being able to bunt guys over or do the "little things." now ozzie's the manager and he's promoting the same kind of philosophy. yet the sox can't still do the "little things." i'm of the belief that by the time players get to the bigs, they are somewhat set in the types of players they are going to be. if a guy didn't learn how to bunt or be baseball literate through little league, high school, college and the minors, i seriously doubt they'll gain that skill because a major league manager wants them to. if the sox want to play "ozzieball" they will need to change the roster.
  16. iirc the red sox got outbid for contreras by the yankees. at the time i remember reading that epstein tore some s*** up after they lost out. i wouldn't be surprised if the bosox went out there with a little extra against him.
  17. last year it was d'angelo jimenez, this year it's uribe. the sox have to have a completely baseball illiterate middle infielder every year. i think it's a rule comiskey made.
  18. i like the fact that the rotation is generally set for the next few years, and if contreras can pitch like he's capable, this will be a nice pitching rotation.
  19. i thought he could opt out after this year, but the sox can't opt out until after next year. i can't see him opting out unless he really gets hot here sometime soon.
  20. i'd like that. the only problem is that beltran's agent is that prick boras so i could see them demanding some ridiculous contract. another thing: since attendance has been good this year so far, does anyone think we'll have to hear "reduced payroll" this offseason?
  21. i agree with what you said earlier about the core of this team taking a hit. i was in favor of trying to break it up in the offseason and trying something different and if we go into another year without the playoffs, then you have to think guys will go. my guess is that either carlos or paulie will go. they will have the biggest trade value. loaiza will be gone, no question, same with schoeneweis. a lot depends on frank and maggs as well and their futures. if we don't make the playoffs, the everett deal looks really bad because we'll be stuck with him next year at an inflated rate.
  22. i'm not trying to stir anyone's pot. i've said it before and i'll say it again here: i think the white sox are going to win the division and probably make a nice run in the playoffs. i'm not suggesting otherwise regardless of the recent s***ty play. but i care about the sox future and present and wondered what anyone else thought. i guess i'm sorry i asked. didn't know i'd piss people off.
  23. i thought this was a message board designed to talk about white sox baseball?
  24. i can't say i want to see sweeney go, but i've always liked floyd (followed him in h.s., etc.). i guess i'm torn on this deal.
