  1. two-and-a-half games out in july is nothing to s*** your pants about.
  2. i don't expect anything major, but i would like to see the sox add a complementary piece.
  3. am i wrong, or haven't the twins been favored to win the division all along? i only really know of two guys (rob neyer and rob dibble) who picked the sox. even once the sox picked up garcia i heard a lot of commentators say this improves the sox's chance in the division, but i didn't hear anyone say it made them the out-and-out favorites. on benson, i agree with many above. i could definitely see us b****ing if the sox traded for him. i'd rather have garcia any day of the week, plus we got garcia for three more years, while benson will go to the highest bidder (most assuredly not minnesota) this offseason. but the twins have improved themselves with this signing. make a move kenny.
  4. my initial post was more out of frustration from the game and the appearance of guys attempting to pull and jack everything out of the park. wilson can be a lot like that kind of player. now, if the sox go ahead and get him then i'll sit back and hope he gets hot and hits a ton of homers. comiskey is a better home run park than coors this year, so i'm sure he'd hit his share if he's healthy. i just guess that if i had my druthers i'd like to see someone who is more of a high-average hitter than a slugger. great avatar, btw. dee brown is the man.
  5. i believe that was taken from a george offman report on the score. we'll know by saturday whether that was true or b.s. hopefully the latter.
  6. preston wilson is for the most part an all or nothing hitter — home run, or strikeout. he struck out 139 times last year, and 140 before that. he'll hit a lot of home runs, sure, but i'd rather have a player with a high obp than a guy who will hit a fair amount of home runs, but not get on base when he's not. i think we have plenty of those guys already.
  7. tonight's game was a great example of why preston wilson would not be the answer.
  8. 21. sox 22. detroit 24. kansas city 26. cleveland 27. minnesota attendance stats
  9. fwiw, the sox have the best attendance in the central division this year. they're 21st overall in the league right now.
  10. they knocked out 6,600 seats. capacity before was 45,936 and it's a little more than 39,000 now.
  11. attendance declined when they lopped the top rows of the upper deck off.
  12. this will be the seventh sell-out of the year. there were six sell-outs last year. let's go!
  13. if you could get him for next-to-nothing, go ahead. otherwise, no gracias.
  14. can't say i'd want him here. i'd rather trade for a guy with a nice obp and a high average than an all-or-nothing slugger.
  15. i'm comfortable with the rotation, but i'd agree that the starters not named buehrle or garcia need to pick it up. if the sox get to the postseason i'd bet schoney goes back to the pen as a long man, and they split up buehrle and garcia so one of them starts at home and the other on the road. my guess would be buehrle-loaiza at home, garcia-garland on the road.
  16. it's interesting. i've spent a fair amount of time stressing about maggs leaving in the offseason. but if he does leave, you have to figure the sox will have a nice chunk of change to spend on some parts. i'd guess you could add a fourth or fifth starter (i'm assuming loaiza is gone and diaz is in the rotation next year), an adequate outfield replacement and perhaps some more bullpen help. this team could be even better next year without maggs, although i'd still rather have him.
  17. bring your predictions here: i say the sox get danny bautista and guardado without giving up top-tier prospects. at least that's my hope.
  18. it's pretty obvious they didn't have the players, or their offer would have been better. who's cashman crappin'?
  19. i think bautista is a good option. a vet with playoff experience who's a better bat than what we have right now in rightfield, as well as someone who could probably be had without mortgaging the whole farm system.
  20. key win, too, imo with maggs situation today. a loss, coupled with the negative maggs' news could have been devastating.
