Mets & White Sox Have Been Talking...
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 05:23 PM) I'd say Mark Buehrle. Jim Thome. IIRC, both have pretty complete NTC's. I knew I should have specified it by saying anyone without a full NTC. However even full NTC's can be waived by the player if the conditions are favorable .

Swisher, Dye or PK will be traded
QUOTE (BearSox @ Nov 6, 2008 -> 10:46 AM) would a trade of Dye to Tampa Bay for Edwin Jackson and Willy Aybar make sense for both teams? Doubtful . TB 's highest paid player for 2008 was Carlos Pena at $6 mil. Dye made 9.5 mil in 2008. Don't anticipate TB changing their frugal ways any time soon.

Mets & White Sox Have Been Talking...
I'd bet that a popular Sox player gets traded maybe 2 or 3. Is anyone really untouchable if the right deal was offered ?

Phillies interested in Dye?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 05:06 PM) The option for 2010 makes him a lot more attractive IMO. If he has a really good season and is basically injury-free, why wouldn't another team want to keep him? There are quite a few outfielders making more money that are much less productive than JD, and he comes with the added bonus of being great in the community, with kids and is a quiet/understated clubhouse leader/veteran presence. While Jenks, Buerhle and the Big 4 would be more valuable on the open market (maybe even Vazquez), I don't think we'll see him traded. KW knows that his leading the majors in homers since 2005 from his position gives him a net "plus" at that position every year. Unless he gets injured or his defense/range become so atrocious he's a problem, which certainly wasn't the case in 2008. I think JD will be playing in 2010 just not as a RF. It's probable he has 3 more years as a productive (albeit numbers declining) hitter. However his defense already, shall we say, leaves something to be desired. LF/DH much sooner rather than later.

Phillies interested in Dye?
QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 11:49 AM) Dye being a future DH really doesn't hinder his value, seeing as he is only signed for one more year. He will make a very solid one year stop gap piece. By future DH I pretty much meant 2009 and beyond. I think he should be a DH immediately . If some teams see him as an OF that's fine by me but if other NL teams envisions him as a 1 yr. "stop gap piece" wouldn't that limit what they'd be willing to offer ? He's more valuable to an AL team who could convert him to DH if they think his defense becomes less than what they can stomach. 1 year RF/LF piece for NL teams , 1+ yrs. RF/LF/DH piece for AL teams. If he's still playing OF in 2010 I'd be totally shocked.

Mets & White Sox Have Been Talking...
QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 03:49 PM) Somebody needs to help me understand how a team gets better by trading its best relief pitcher... one of the best relief pitchers in baseball the last 3 years. In the periods where our bullpen turned to crap the last few years, he was consistently the only guy who could get people out. And he's young and still cheap. So... why is this even remotely a good idea? I'm skeptical, but open-minded and willing to be persuaded by a good argument. Yes he's young and cheap and talented. Precisely why he might be traded. The Sox need some every day players , they need youth, they need defense, they need speed, they need... well a lot when your roster is turning into a bunch of old, injury plagued DH's. The Sox might figure with a screw in his elbow and getting 3.5 good years out of him while he was cheap they got just about all Jenks has to give before his salary jumps into the stratosphere and/or his arm explodes.

Phillies interested in Dye?
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) The Phils would be willing to give up Victorino but I read that the Phils were interested in Matt Holliday and since Victorino is signed for a few more years could be involved in a swap with the Rocks. I think if the Phils had much interest in Dye they wouldn't want to include Victorino. Oh and please we all hate titles that make it seem like the trade occured. I'd love to give you my opinion on Golson however it would be ignorant. Just seems unlikely Dye would end up in the National League. He's a DH waiting to happen as is Korneko and we already have Thome. The Sox need to get rid of 1 possibly 2 of the 3 at least while they still have value. Dye is the most valuable piece but also most likely to stay with the Sox as a future DH. But if we want quality we have to give it up and any good position player IMHO is worth more than a future DH.

Phillies interested in Dye?
QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Nov 7, 2008 -> 09:38 AM) Listening to ESPN 1000 this morn and one of the updates said the phillies are interested in JD, no speculation as to who we'd get back so lets start the speculation who do you see us getting back. First id try throwing in whoever to get Victorino, i believe it was levinne that said the phils wouldnt trade him but if we throw in say broadway and maybe another spec i think theyd do it. if not what would you guys think of them giving us a package involving Greg Golson??? who would you want??? The Phils would be willing to give up Victorino but I read that the Phils were interested in Matt Holliday and since Victorino is signed for a few more years could be involved in a swap with the Rocks. I think if the Phils had much interest in Dye they wouldn't want to include Victorino. Oh and please we all hate titles that make it seem like the trade occured.

What will be Kenny's signature move of 08-09?
KW will be very active IF he can find some takers for his high priced vets and get a boatload of talent for Bobby Jenks. I've read the Sox want Dye at DH . That could mean somehow getting out from under the Thome contract if that is even possible. That contract is the noose strangling trade possibilities and free agent signings. There are always decent outfielders available, examples being Ryan Ludwick and Rick Ankiel. I know Vazquez is the center of trade rumors but would that really be the 1st move KW makes creating 2 holes in the starting pitching ? Don't look for any signature move too soon most free agents will be signed by Jan. 1st to avoid the expected Obama tax hike on people with high salaries. Konerko might be an option for teams who lose in the Texeira sweepstakes. IF Getz and Fields start the season at 2nd and 3rd I'd be shocked. If that happens then KW would have failed in every A-Z plan he tried to make and believe me he will be out there wheeling and hopefully dealing.

Arizona Fall League
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 8, 2008 -> 04:07 AM) I'm gonna be in Lake Havasu City for 10 days in November. Would that be near anywhere where they play AFL games? Thats where my ex lives and I don't think it's near anything, it's a tree-less barren wasteland . But it is filled with drunken trailer trash during spring break.

Starting Outfield
QUOTE (almagest @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 10:41 AM) The Gomez triple that went off Wise's glove, and the double last night by Cuddyer on almost the same ball that Delmon Young was able to cut off told me all I need to know about Wise's defense. I'm not going to defend Wise' defense but to compare what Delmon Young did on the Dye hit and what Wise' did on the Cuddyer hit is ludicrous. Do they have the same speed ( the hit ball and the outfielders)? Were both outfielders in the exact same spot when the ball was 1st struck ? Did the ball roll in the exact same line of travel ? Did both balls have the exact same spin ? Unless you can answer yes to those questions you can't compare why Young got to the ball and held Dye to a single and why Wise couldn't cut off the ball and Cuddyer got a double.

My thoughts...
QUOTE (mreye @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 05:59 AM) I rarely start threads, so if this has been said, screw off! I am so proud of the fans last night. The "blackout" was outstanding and should become an every game thing - like a college atmosphere. I absolutely love a crowd that gets going every time there's two strikes and they didn't disappoint last night! Did anyone else notice what was supposed to be on Comcast during the Sox postgame? A: The Cubs Rally replay. I had a good laugh at that. How many freaking Viagra commercials do they have to play? I think I was singing that damned song in my sleep last night! Yes I noticed that and also noticed the TBS post game was sponsored by Captain Morgan. I mentioned both in the Winners thread.

QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Oct 1, 2008 -> 02:22 AM) Joe Mauer, "He had a lot of things going right for him tonight, you know. I know me, personally, he made some great pitches on me, I couldn't really figure him out." When Mauer can't figure you out, you know you've turned to the next page in your career, just my opinion And for those asking why he bunted , see above.
