Opening Day Starting lineup questions
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) Hopefully this is a typo by Phil Rogers. So we have a guy named Pablo who hits .400 against CC, and gets on base over .400 OBP with a .953 OPS. And we are starting Uribe who has a career .200BA against CC and a sub .600 career OPS against. Help me with this one . Thome is 0-11 lifetime against CC including 7ks. The only one with success in the lineup on Monday against CC is Swisher who hits him at .385. Guillen also mentioned Thome batting 5th against tough lefthanders so that didn't go down either. He shouldn't even be in the lineup against Sabathia. Just assuming it will be a low scoring game why not have the extra righty and very good defense of Anderson in center and Ramirez or Quentin DHing ? I'm stumped as well about Ozuna not in there. Plus Swisher is in a terrible slump right now with 4 hits in his last 45 AB's.

Stoney new guy on the Score-somebody should tell the Sox
QUOTE(TLAK @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 05:01 PM) Pravda! Its a real link. Love ya Balta! Even the commies know about it (although they are probably following Brian Anderson). Great post. I like the story about the Illinois shaped cornflake that sold on ebay for $1350.00

Alexei Ramirez to start at CF on Opening Day?
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 06:06 AM) Something different, yes. To worry about, no. 7 k in 11 ab, that's the zenith of futility. I know it's not gonna happen, because it would considered a dis, but it's got nothing to do with baseball strategy. You can't look at Thome's history against Sabathia and think there's anything useful in having him in the lineup. But it should happen . Thome is a pro . He's got to know he sucks against CC. He's getting older though still highly effective but not nearly as much against lefthanders. He's got to know he won't play 162 games a year. If every win counts Ozzie has to explain he only wants to win every game. Put the best damn lineup out there all the time. I don't give a rats ass if it's opening day. If you always worry about "dissing" someone or getting someones value up then you're sacrificing wins and in a win now mode that just doesn't suit me. If it's a close game there will be opportunities to PH.

Alexei Ramirez to start at CF on Opening Day?
QUOTE(JFields27 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) I would pout Fields in there instead of Crede .... oh wait Freudian slip ?

Crede
QUOTE(JFields27 @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 09:24 PM) He'll have more then a leg injury if I ever see him Take it easy Josh. You were supposed to take the demotion gracefully.

Alexei Ramirez to start at CF on Opening Day?
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 06:48 PM) I'd rather see Thome and his career 0-for-11, 7k line against Sabathia riding the bench, personally. Obviously won't happen, I know. I agree. Opening day be damned. Hell why not put BA in center and have Quentin or Ramirez DH and have them up higher in the order. If Ramirez is in there because he's a good fastball hitter put him where he can do some damage. Why have him hitting last behind the lefthanded AJ and Rusty Crede ?
-
Crede
QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 09:02 AM) I think a rehab assignment is limited to two weeks. But yes, it happens quite often. I know. I just don't see why it hasn't been considered more in the zillions of posts I've read re: Crede/Fields. If the point of keeping Crede is his defense , he hasnt looked all that sharp , mostly his throws are off. Wins at the beginning of the season count just as much as wins at the end. Keeping a bad hitting bad fielding Joe can cost wins. Joe should be on a rehab assignment. Even if Crede does fairly well what's the most the Sox could get for him in trade ? A AA or AAA mediocre prospect ? Kenny's eventually going to have to bite the bullet with Joe . The only way he can save face is for another teams' 3rd baseman going down with an injury while Joe is heating up if that ever happens. Boras has got to be the happiest guy around knowing the Sox are doing him a favor by playing Joe.That way he can prove he's healthy and possibly prove he can still play too.

The Last Roster Spot
Logan pitched 2 perfect innings tonight . Might be a sign that a few of our 1 inning specialists might have to go longer without Masset.

QUOTE(flavum @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 08:22 PM) No love for Hermanson and Politte? There were plenty of career years. I did think of Hermanson just didnt add him in there cause so far thats pretty much Cotts only good year. Hermanson had been a decent pitcher before that and so had Politte.

Where The Corn Is As High As Greg Walker's Eye...
QUOTE(flavum @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 08:13 PM) I just looked through the box scores. Since the off day on March 13, Swisher is 4-40 (.100), with 8 walks. Sox win, but I think Carrasco hurt his knee on the final play of the game. Was a lineout comebacker to Carrasco. Hope he's OK. Spring ERA down to 2.19

Where The Corn Is As High As Greg Walker's Eye...
Carrasco give up a walk then a lineout DP , gets save, Sox win 5-4. Anyone seriously think Carrasco is in the mix for a BP slot ?

Where The Corn Is As High As Greg Walker's Eye...
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) His OPS hasnt been awful. He should rebound, although im not sure the lead off spot is where he should be. I dont think he's comfortable with it. His BA is down to .230 . Sox go 1-2-3 in the 9th. Carrasco n to pitch the 9th.

Logan with a 1-2-3 8th . Hmm pitched 2 innings . A sign that Masset is a goner ?

Where The Corn Is As High As Greg Walker's Eye...
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 07:49 PM) wow....what to do with macdougal. It was his 1st bad outing in a while he had gotten his spring ERA under 5.00 which ,considering the bad start isnt too bad. Dotel's been sucking much worse lately. Sox go uneventfully in 8th against Robinson Tejeda. Hall and Anderson K while Ozuna PH'ing for Royce Huffman grounds out.

Where The Corn Is As High As Greg Walker's Eye...
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 07:27 PM) Ramirez is just plain good. Isnt he leading the team in RBI's? The kid needs to play at least 120 games this year, hopefully more. Thome is leading ST in RBI.

The Last Roster Spot
QUOTE(Reddy @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 08:37 AM) yeah he's really done well so far this spring, being healed and all... I know that was sarcasm even if its not in green but his last 5-6 outings he's been stellar .
