Gavin "Pretty Boy" Floyd vs. D-Train, Going for three!
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 01:39 PM) No offense, but this is the type of post which I feel has really deteriorated this board. And your posts about over rated defense and slow bat are good posts ? He's a very capable defender and hitter yet you say what you say to constantly try to support your dislike for the Garland trade. Let it play out.

Question for old timers....
QUOTE(SoIL @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 05:52 PM) Born in '58 also. The Sox were on 32 and some years 44. Possibly both channels during the same year. Harry used to do Falstaff commercials from the booth with (cf?) camera on him. From what I remember, he took many swigs from those cold cans while on camera. yea with Jack Drees announcing but i know Brickhouse and WGN would do Sox games to. I was born in Dec 57.

Question for old timers....
QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 03:45 PM) Born in '63 so not quite old enough, but I remember Harry doing Falstaff commercials (and seemingly drinking half the brewery). I remember the Hamm's commercials more during Cubs games. (My Dad hated the Sox, so we watched more Cubs games when I was a kid. He called Comiskey Park "that boneyard", as in "I'll never take you to that boneyard!" lol) Yea i was probably watching the cubs games too since they were on wgn but so were the sox and they might have run them during the bears games too.

Question for old timers....
QUOTE(G&T @ Apr 4, 2008 -> 03:31 PM) Actually they would be 58 if I'm not mistaken. 18 year old drinking age? right? I was thinking 21 was the drinking age but since I was 10 i dont know what it was back in 68.
-
Question for old timers....
if you were old enough to drink in the 60's lets say that was 40 years ago that would make you at least 61 now. do we have any one that old posting on here ? I'm old but was just a kid about 10 in 1968. I do remember the Hamm's commercials with the bear. Hamm's the beer refreshing. Hamm's the beer refreshing. Hammmm's.

ESPN Sunday Night Baseball April 6th
QUOTE(Linnwood @ Apr 3, 2008 -> 04:08 PM) At this rate, I wonder if the Tigers will. I'd much rather hear the announcers talking about the Tigers bad start than ours . So yay for todays win !

Alexei Ramirez to start at CF on Opening Day?
QUOTE(lostfan @ Apr 1, 2008 -> 10:30 PM) This supports my position that Alexei, talented though he might be, did not really look like he had any business out there yet. If he should've been starting over anyone, it should've been Uribe. I think it just supports that CC is a great pitcher. I would've preferred to see Anderson in center but think Ramirez and Anderson will probably split time in center. Weather Ramirez can make the jump to the major leagues and be successful will not be discovered in one game against a quality pitcher. As far as starting over Uribe, 2b base is arguably the position which he is the least adept. But again we might see him there at times depending on the match up. We're going to be seeing a lot of mixing and matching with Uribe , Ramirez , Anderson and Quentin which is fine by me. You don't produce you sit or get sent down.

Alexei Ramirez to start at CF on Opening Day?
QUOTE(lostfan @ Mar 31, 2008 -> 04:48 PM) I hope that's what it was. Cuz he looked like .5 seconds too late on every fastball, and it'd either blow past his bat, or he'd just stand there. You have to remember CC wasn't just throwing fastballs to Ramirez . He was setting him up with the changeup. CC didn't win the CY for nothing. He's a helluva pitcher not just a flamethrower. He K'd Ramirez on one AB with a perfect pitch (fastball) on the outside corner the ARAM swung and missed but most hitters would've just went down looking at that pitch.

April Fools Day Thread: Joe Crede and Nick Masset dealt to SF
QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 1, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) Pretty solid trade! Rickrolled !! BWA HAHAHHAAAAAA !! Never gonna tell u lies and hurt u ..... Weird. I never wrote pretty solid trade. Did some one else write that and get embarrassed that they fell for the joke and delete it because I can't find it. If it was a reply to a quote why isn't it in a quote box ? If you respond to a quote and the person deletes their post does the quote box vanish ? I need coffee !

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Mar 28, 2008 -> 03:12 AM) How's that Sesame Street song go? One of these things is not like the other...one of these things just doesn't belong. Sounds a bit like the Foofighters ,The Pretender. What if I say I'm not like the others? What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays? I knpw it's a bit of a stretch but I'm trying to get to 1000 posts

The Last Roster Spot
QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) I have a feeling you're with me when I say I disagree with just about every personnel decision that's been made over the last few weeks. Fields over Crede when a rehab assignment for Crede would be best. Masset over Wasserman. Thome not only in there against CC but batting 3rd. Ozuna not starting against CC. Anderson not in center against CC. Ramirez could DH. These are the ones I disagree with. I'm sure your list is longer.

Alexei Ramirez to start at CF on Opening Day?
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 06:54 AM) On Thome, these were his overall numbers against lefties last season; .196/.314/.350 So pretty average. It's be great for the Sox if a Quentin or BA could really step up against lefties and give Ozzie that 2nd option as a DH. Jim still got 289 AB's against righties and crushed 29HR's, that's 1 every 10 plate appearnce. Whether Ozzie would ever platoon him though, I don't know. It's something he needs to consider though. He's got to consider it . Thome is no spring chicken and should be rest once every week to 10 days when a lefty is on the mound. This would seem to be an easy decision considering his age, injuries and averageness against lefties. I love Thome against righties and he would be the best option to PH once we get a righty reliever into the game.

Alexei Ramirez to start at CF on Opening Day?
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Mar 30, 2008 -> 06:33 AM) Weird how Swisher was to be starting at CF, and now all of a sudden, Alexei has won the CF job. I think it's going to be a muddled picture all season long, unless Ramirez produces from the get - go. The only thing muddled is Ozzies mind. He talked about Ozuna starting and Thome batting 5th against tough lefthanders then did neither. Against the Cy Young winner you have to have your best defense on the field. If you want Ramirez in the lineup just DH him and put Anderson in center. Thome batting 3rd with his 0-11 & 7 K lifetime line against CC . Ozzie puts the most plodding team in against a guy who if he allows base runners won't even need to worry about holding them on. Ozzies convinced by Ramirez' spring that he deserves to play but not Anderson's spring ?

Opening Day Starting lineup questions
QUOTE(scenario @ Mar 29, 2008 -> 09:34 PM) I wouldn't be surprised to see Ozuna as a game time decision at 3B... giving Crede another day of rest for his ankle. I would be surprised since Crede started at 3rd against the Mets.
