Cubs claim Podsednik; Pods still here (for now)
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 10, 2007 -> 08:39 AM) Francis? I didn't see that one, so I had to really make a big deal of it, you know. Back to Pods - anything you can get for him is fine at this point. With the Cubs willing to probably overpay a bit, it's good to get something for him, if the Sox can. Francis I believe is a reference from the Bill Murray , John Candy comedy "Stripes" > A Bill Murray classic .

Will the Sox finish at .500 or better?
62 games left 35-27 the rest of the way. Eh why not ? Doesnt hurt to stay positive contrary to popular belief.

White Sox vs. Indians, 8/07/07 (L)
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Aug 7, 2007 -> 08:17 PM) why the hell didn't he let owens try and steal, then sacrifice?? I was thinking why sacrifice at all when you're 2/2 in stolen bases already with neither being close. Giving away outs in the 9th inning is not something I like when you only have 2 hits to that point. I was begging for the steal of 3rd after the sacrifice and Owens would've scored on the Thome fly ball had he done it.

THIS DATE IN WHITE SOX HISTORY: AUGUST 6TH/Bonura, Pierce, Fisk
I'll assume around 10 pitches an inning and thats rather low so at least 160.

Buehrle: Sox aren't going into rebuilding mode
I'd love to see someone like Rod Carew brought in to work with Owens on his hitting. Carew was a great bunter and slap hitter much like Ichiro who got out of the batters box extremely quickly. I think Owens has the potential to bat .300 in the majors , steal 50 bases and play a decent CF. I've seen him make a lot of diving catches recently. He's got no arm at all and doesnt walk much but if he earns a little more respect by hitting better the walks will come because he does seem to have a good eye up there.

Iguchi Traded to Phillies for RP/SP Michael Dubee
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 28, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) You cannot ignore the turn the market has taken. You cannot judge Kenny's trades at this moment on what he or other GM's could have gotten in past years. That's comparing apples to oranges. Unfortunately for us, we chose a really poor time to be a seller at the deadline. It's a strange coincidence that when we might have been buyers in the free agent market the salaries go out of sight and when its time to rid ourselves of players the market is poor. Broken promises broken dreams. Wait til next decade.

It's Official: We Are Now Tied for Last Place in the Central
I got flamed pretty good in the off season when I started comparing the Sox to the Marlins. I wish I knew how to find wtf I actually wrote but every time I try the search engine is off. And even if it wasnt I'm not exactly sure how to go about it. I love the Sox and don't hate any players because not everyone can be a star. However that being said its time for KW to pull the switch on some huge trades. I have no doubt we'll see some major changes. High salaried players and oft injured players will depart and we should get some athletic youth near major league ready. It would be a shame to see anyone on the starting staff go besides Contreras and it sures seems like Dye will be gone too. Doubt those 2 will bring as much talent as we need so others will also be gone. I wouldn't be shocked if even Konerko, Buerhle or AJ is traded. Kenny can't half ass it like he did in the off season. Promises were made by Sox management to keep improving the team if the turnstiles kept turning then they reneged when they professed shock over the rising costs of free agents. Thats when I think I knew we were in trouble. Very rarely can you compete when you go cheap and rid yourself of talented players. Kenny caught lightning in a bottle with the moves he made to bring us a title. Every move he made seemed to pan out well. As many have stated before me I'll be forever thankful for 2005. But its time for follow the Marlin blueprint and see if we can get back to the playoffs in 3-5 years. I know that seems like a lifetime to some of our youthful posters. Many of our forefathers lived n died rooting for hapless White Sox teams. It isn't that long when you keep it in perspective. So Kenny pull the trigger and do it right . There's a lot of holes to fill.

As if Rowand Lee and Ordonez in the All-star game wasnt bad enough
Geez lighten up guys. My post was not a commentary on the departures of those players. Its more of a Murphy's law thing. I've been around too long and seen too many bad Sox teams to cry over spilled milk. I 'll take the World Series win anytime.

Albert Belle interested in owning White Sox
Interview with Albert Belle who had 2 great years with the Sox. He looks back on those years fondly apparently.

And thats a White Sox loser !
Dye struck out in 2 key situations in the 7th and 9th. Sox shut out for 8th time. 2-0 .

The Legend of Tom Drees
Good job I remember Dree's probably from a rookie card and because his last name is the same as Jack Dree's one time Sox TV announcer.

KW Speaks about Buehrle's NTC
QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Jul 1, 2007 -> 08:09 AM) No, the Sox have one more way to get talent: cheap free agents undervalued because injury, etc. Seriously, the thing that is most depressing about the Sox is that they have so limited the way they can acquire talent. I don't know of any other team that does this or is so risk-averse. No Boras clients (draft or FA), no arb offers to FAs that might bring extra picks or could be accepted, no drafting hard signs or players demanding more than slot money, no big FAs signed at "crazy" market price, no pitchers signed longer than 3 years, no keeping guys by giving put NTC for full contract, no keeping guys whose 5/10 rights kick in. The Sox are counting on brilliant FA signings and a strong minor league system. And this year that strategy has given the Sox Erstad and Andy Gonzalez. The future isn't bright. Great post. Just another way of saying the Sox are cheap and really for the history of the franchise have always been cheap. Its that frugality that created the Black Sox scandal and got us 1 championship in 90 years. I know others will site how much the payroll is but really if 4 yrs 56 mill. is all he wants to stay we get him at the prime of his career at money and yrs. way less then market value. If Williams can't get this done then anything he says when he trades MB will just be spin control which is a nice way of saying utter and total BS.

Owens sent down
Anyone want to do a little bit of digging and see what the Sox record is with Erstad leading off and what the record is so far since he's been gone ?
-
Well a few positives I noticed at the yard yesterday...
At this point I guess all u can do is look for a few positives in individual players because as a team they are sucking badly. It's a sad sight to behold and I hope they can get healthy and turn it around. The Sox desperately need the MacDougal of old to reappear and for that matter the Dye and Konerko of old too.

And Thats a White Sox Loser !
QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ May 28, 2007 -> 03:37 PM) I watched the Twins post gameon FSN North and I guess in AJs 1st AB, he tagged 1st base awefully close to JMs foot...then after the 2nd groundout (DP), again Gardy felt he had the whole base to hit and damn near clipped JMs foot again...I guess that was Gardy protecting his MVP but I would be surprised to see AJ plunked in the right situation later in the series Also on the Twins postgame Gardenhire talked to AJ and said its over and forgotten. He accepts AJ's explanation.
-
And Thats a White Sox Loser !
Typical Twin win in the baggydome. Infield hits, Tyner, Punto ,Castillo ,and Bartlett on base 13 out of 19 times. Hunter robbing Thome of a HR. Conteras not covering 1st, beaning a hitter 0-2, 2 outs starting a 3 run rally. 2 errors. Gooch stepping on a groundball. AJ supposedly attempting to step on the heel of Morneau twice pissing Gardenhire and the Twins bench off. Dewon Day debut looking like the rest of the bullpen. Aardsma wildness. Did about as well as you can expect off of Santana. Now that we seem to be scoring 4 runs a game the pitching takes a turn for the worse.

White Sox vs. Twins, 5/28/07 (L)
QUOTE(Vance Law @ May 28, 2007 -> 09:27 AM) As lefties hit Santana better than righties, I'm glad AJ and Erstad are in there, and I hope Mack in left too. So far this year lefties hitting .169 against him.

QUOTE(Hideaway Lights @ May 28, 2007 -> 10:49 AM) shouldn't that be in green sox have had virtually no chance against santana when he's at home I do not feel good about this one There's hope , thats why they play the game. Think Masset against Zambrano . Anything can happen. Don't stop believing.

McCarthy Watch
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ May 26, 2007 -> 05:21 AM) Time is running out for underprepared and inexperienced GM Jon Daniels. Maybe someone should email the Ranger organization and tell them about all the potential GM's here at Soxtalk.

History since the Cubs last won a World Series
QUOTE(RME JICO @ May 27, 2007 -> 09:28 AM) Pretty good list, but I think there are about 100,000 more you could add to that list. Thread probably belongs in The Diamond Club. For the sake of brevity couldn't list the history of the world for 100+ years. I hope it doesn't get moved. More Soxtalkers will see it here. I never even look at the Diamond club and the Elia tirade alone is a must hear ! QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 27, 2007 -> 09:44 AM) The original post has been made 23,325 times since the last time the Cubs won the World Series. People just can't be nice can they ? I've been around here almost 3 years so excuuuuuuuse me . I haven't seen it before.
