  1. AJ Pierzynski Throwing out the ceremonial 1st pitch April 3rd.
  2. That would surprise me. Eloy can DH and what are going to do sit Colas or Benintendi ? All 3 of those guys have to get AB's and a lot of them. SUre maybe sit Colas against really tough LHP like Robbie Ray or LHP who kills lefties but those guys are few and far between and certainly not enough to put Eloy in the OF a couple days a week. Granted Colas will have some adjustments to go through but he has shown a proclivity for hitting LHP pretty well in the minors. I don't know if I've seen anyone express this thought on Colas but just from watching ST games, he hits a lot of GB. He worked hard this off season trying to cut down on K's and for the most part it's worked in ST. He's making contact but not getting a lot of balls in the air. He may have worked too hard on making contact and going the other way. He seems to be at his best as a pull hitting power guy. I could live with more K's if he's hitting more doubles and HR's. I understand what the hitting coaches were trying to work with him on in Miami but maybe it could've been more approach oriented about waiting on his pitch and having a good 2 strike approach rather than getting away from what he does best. Hitting for a decent batting average while hitting the ball far for HRs with a high K rate can work in MLB but you have to know the strike zone and take some walks for that to work.
  3. Being a LH pull hitter the dimensions aren't that much different in most parks. Anything to straight away RF or down the lines is a lesser distance. It's when you don't pull it enough and it goes to RCF where the dimensions get bigger. But yea terrible home road splits. But I think most parks are around 330 down the line and some angle out more extreme then others but you can smack a lot of HR's hitting the ball less than 400 ft in a lot of parks from the foul pole to straight away RF.
  4. The best thing that ever happened to Moncada was the bouncy ball year of 2019. Thats how he got the big extension. If the Sox had been more in tune what was happening in the rest of baseball that year with so many guys putting up career type years and HR's they might not have been so quick to give him a big payday. That's just another in a long line of FO blunders. Keep tracks of those things. Any very keen observer of the game especially those in paid positions to spend money absolutely need to recognize these things. Anyone seeing all of this happening in 2019 and staying in touch with the rumors about the ball might come to the conclusion that something was going to be done about the ball and held off on offering big extensions. Anyone who actually refers to Yoans 2019 as a level of talent that he can return to has their head up there asses 4 years later. You'd have a better chance hoping for the return of the bouncy ball than Yoan ever repeating that year.
  5. The best bat is debatable especially when his weakness is RHP. For as much as people dislike Sheets he has a distinct advantage being LH. Sheets just has to be more consistent. It's great to have a .900 OPS at home but it sucks when its a .500 OPS on the road. How the difference can be so wide is hard to understand.
  6. 4 starters missing. Vaughn, Anderson, Moncada and Colas. Vaughn and Moncada are injury related.
  7. Romy can play a better OF than Sheets or Vaughn . Plus you don't want Eloy in the OF either. But Eloy has to play every day . You still want wins and a better defensive guy who can at least run into a pitch and knock it of the park once in a while in a pinch hitting role and when in the starting lineup . The bench has to be the best combination of hitting and defense. I doubt they want to use Colas at all in CF. If he's going to be out there full time keep him in RF to learn the ballparks better . Tough choice but luckily some guys have options. It's the veteran guys like Alberto, Marisnick and Hamilton who may not accept a minor league assignment and could prefer to catch on with a MLB team and ask to be released. Alberto ,being a former KC guy who Grifol may have wanted ,might have an inside track especially since he's been pounding the ball even if he can't play OF. If we base the decision on defense and hitting in the spring along with Grifol's preference and that maybe Alberto, if not chosen for the 26 may ask to be released, Haseley, Alberto look to have an edge. I know we want some bombers like Burger and Sheets here but they aren't good or versatile enough defensively to make opening day. One of them still may though.
  8. Early on I'd play them every day when there are off days built into the schedule and rain outs. Might as well get as many games and wins as we can out of them until they get injured. When the schedule tightens up and the weather is better they'll need more days off. But I want them to find their bats as early as possible and stay in the lineup. Can't treat them like China dolls any more. Either they start producing and staying on the field or there will be massive changes .
  9. Declan Cronin 1, 2 ,3 2K's
  10. For a AAA guy Yolbert Sanchez hasn't got as long a look as one might think but he's showing he's a contact guy and that says don't you forget about me when he's got a sac fly and an RBI single.
  11. That was my other thought , that Colas fell down somehow running the bases.
  12. Its either him Leury, Marisnick, Romy, Hamilton (Sheets not a 4th OF Type) Inf. and utility it's Alberto, Romy, Leury, Sheets, Burger ? Just to be open minded about it. So Leury and Romy with increase their chances just by playing inf and outfield.
  13. Edit. Maybe it was one of those where the runner had to hold up on a shallow fly thinking it would be caught. A real double scores a runner easily from 2nd base.
  14. Bryce Willits who got 11 AB last year in Rookie ball singled and stole 2nd vs Tx. Stranded at 2nd.
  15. Seby double (scored a double?) but Colas out at home. Probably should be scored a single even without seeing it .
  16. Colas single and a double against Eovaldi
  17. I guess I just don't understand the need to immediately get up from something that hurts and possibly do more damage. This rub some dirt on it, get up walk it off macho BS should 've stopped happening a long time ago . Is sports the last bastion of male judgemental bullying of the supposed weak garbage ? We have no right to call anyone soft based on our observations of body language. It's just a biased judgement based on no inside information. We don't share pain receptors or brain function. Concussions used to mean nothing. How is that looking now ? You got your bell rung . You'll be ok .
  18. He could ask for his release and probably get it. He might get more money in Japan or get a ML contract with someone. $700,00 guaranteed has to look real good when you're about to turn 27 and its possibly his best chance after the spring he's had. Who makes it over him that the Sox have a risk of losing or does Leury make it based on his paycheck ? Can Romy perform the rest of the spring to earn a job when the regulars are back after the WBC ? The season just around the corner maybe Yoan and Eloy sit a bunch because of their recent boo boos
  19. Great hustle by Trout !
  20. Here we go ! I hope the Japanese manager's strategy of changing starting pitcher to Imanaga backfires.
  21. The more lefties the better. The Sox weakness for 2 years has been inability to hit RHP.
