  1. So sad thinking that way. We don't want the Mike Trout/Jose Ramirez bat for a bargain but let our main opponent in the division get him for a little bit worse bargain and we win !!
  2. Still plenty of mediocre guys out there to pick up. You are just seeing the upper tier moving a little faster now.
  3. Wow a baseball on the field type post. Not bad when you're not on your soapbox. So you're talking about signing 5-6 FA's , Bradley, Jr. , Rosario, Catcher , SP and 1-2 relievers. We'll have to see how much money all those guys come too. Assuming could have had Q for $9M and looking at how much the Sox have spent so far I think you end up over JR's meager budget since it's fairly apparent payroll is going to approximate last years'. Probably would have to add only 1 reliever but the better ones have been going for a lot but lets say an Archie Bradley type $6 and someone else in the $3M area. Anyway you get the picture.
  4. They said June/July. Don't know if that is the latest news or not.
  5. It would be wrong just because of the timeline. He said good news for White Sox fans in the next few days.10 days (and likely to be more) is > "a few days".
  6. I think you easily could / should have given Lynn /Sox a + or even a ++ . Severino might not be back till July and the Yanks are not going to thrust him into full time starter from the get go. Over the course of the season that's a big advantage. ATM you can't think Severino will be the Severino of old by playoff time.
  7. As long as there are still good players out there waiting to be signed, then he should wait . There's no reason why one of the best hitters in baseball should settle for $10M a year when a guy like Eaton got what he got.
  8. Maybe he is a Native American and it's his way of showing it, if you can imagine those triangles as Teepees.
  9. Or he will wait for the NL to get a DH. Those talks are not dead, just dormant for the time being. It's looking more and more like there will be another delay to the season . If the owners say they lost $100M each approx on a 60 game season you can bet they won't want to play 162 with operational minor leagues unless they get some very good news on Covid vaccinations availability very soon.
  10. I don't think its a win when your competition gets Nelson Cruz. It's a win if the Sox get him.
  11. If there are a bunch of teams all hoping for an influx of income from paying customers I don't like that strategy either. Strike now while the iron is hot. If fans are allowed in the trade deadline might get pushed back a little. Then there will be a mad scramble for talent available driving up the prices. It will be a sellers market. Now it's a buyer market.
  12. I don't like that strategy if it's true. The Sox need to be worried about their own team more than the Twins. Do what's necessary to ,make yourself better . That's the only way to beat the top teams and win a World Series . Put the pedal to the metal and leave them in the dust. We shouldn't be jockeying for position with the Twins.
  13. Imagine being here when the Sox won the World Series in 2005 !! That was the best !
  14. The threads from last off season is pretty much the same. The big discussions were which pitcher we would get Wheeler, Ryu, Bumgarner, Keuchel or Ryu. I started saying we needed 2 guys and most thought I was crazy. I wasn't leaving enough room for the kids to pitch in what many thought we a development year. I was like hey the window is open right now. Then at the end of the year everyone was pissed we didn't have another starter. I think we all agree we need another starter. We all wish it was Bauer . The Sox will get someone . They have to. They know the risks coming into a long season from a season where pitchers didn't come close to a normal workload. There are going to be problems. They will add one more guy for the rotation and probably another one on a minor league deal. It might be the last deal we see for someone who will be on the 26 man roster but we shall see.
  15. But that's OK, no big deal. Pretty much everyone knows the facts of our owner, the pandemic, labor strife etc. There's nothing wrong with optimism, you probably live longer supporting other people dreams than you do squashing them. Baseball is the sport where hope springs eternal. I was cautioning people about taking for granted we would automatically make the playoffs or that too many were penciling in Vaughn to be a great hitter too soon. You make your point and move on . This isn't a court of law where you are trying to convince a jury to acquit or convict . There was something that people used to say a lot on this board when people got overly serious. It was a movie quote from "Stripes". Lighten up, Francis !
  16. I am actually like you except there just comes a time when you say this is my team we have a lot of good players. I can't do anything about who the Sox sign or trade. I can b**** and moan about the owners, my hopes, my dreams, my understanding of all the bad. However I will enjoy all the fine talent we have and will enjoy seeing them play. Unless you get in the World Series year after year chances are you aren't going to get many shots to win it so ultimately disappointment happens. There are so many things in life that are sorrowful. Find joy where you can in the team and the sport .
  17. It's wild. I don't give a shit who has sources or who tweets what. I just come for the entertainment value of the tweets and the board collapsing like a star becoming a black hole. I pray for all the souls that get sucked into this blackhole of melodrama. #event horizon
  18. Who's fault is that? Should the owner only spend when are good because of luck or should the owner spend to make the Sox good ?
  19. Maybe he is just taking more called 3rd strikes. I don't no where to find that info. Many of his offensive stats are near career highs the last 2 years . It might just be more selective at what he is swinging at . Maybe he is using his knowledge of hitting to outguess pitchers or zone in on pitch location or using the count to a greater advantage which could also explain his very high walk percentages.
  20. But from Cruz' perspective it really hurts his ability to contribute perhaps as much as he would like to ,not to mention limiting his market. He should wait as long as he can unless he's got a $15M offer out there.
