  1. Bases loaded for the Sox , no outs, Leury Garcia at the plate. Leury hits a little tapper that only Burnes can field . Moncada is streaking home from 3rd and knows he can score standing up. While bearing down on the plate the catchers foot is smack dab in the middle of the plate. It doesn't look to me like Moncada adjusted his stride to avoid the catchers foot. As the ball is thrown and the catcher removes his foot from the base seeing the throw was uncatchable. Moncada crosses the plate but his stride comes up short and he misses the plate and the errant throw from Burnes hits Moncada then deflects and hits the HP Umpire Rehak and drops at his feet. He then signals safe and I can see Moncada turn his head to look at Rehak and he sees the safe call. At that point Moncada probably goes to the dugout thinking he was called safe. If the ball hadn't hit the ump and rolled another 10 or 15 ft. away Moncada might be thinking, I'm not sure I touched the plate maybe I should go back and touch it. But because the ball hit Rehak the ball was only 6 or 7 ft from home perhaps Moncada thinking he was already safe and with the ball so close to home decides not to try to go back and touch home. If it had rolled further it's possible another run scores and it's 2 runs scored and men on 2nd and 3rd with 0 outs. The Brewers have a meeting on the mound and Burnes retakes the mound and the catcher puts down signs. Burnes then steps off the mound and they appeal the play at the plate the normal way and the ball is thrown to the catcher and he steps on home and Moncada is again called safe. From the 1st safe call through the meeting on the mound to the 2nd safe call takes 1 minute 53 seconds. At that point then comes the replay request and all hell breaks loose. So many things happening on that play from the double deflection on the throw to the 2 safe calls . It was another 3 minutes 25 seconds from the 2nd safe call to the replay out call. Then Larussa comes out states his case the umps go back to call New York again. Everything gets explained to both sides and when Collins steps in the box almost 6 minutes go by. All together from the 1st safe at the plate call to Collins getting into the box to hit it takes a little more than 11 minutes. I guess we could blame Moncada for not sliding or for taking one long stride towards home and coming up short or for not being aware he didn't touch home or for being aware he missed home and not retouching it. We could blame the umps for calling Moncada safe twice especially since ,if Moncada had any doubts he touched the plate, the initial safe call more than likely erased those doubts. Apparently Rehak was distracted from seeing Moncada step on home when he was about to get hit by the ball and just decided to fake his way through the calls figuring 99.9 % of the time a runner touches home. I'll just blame Murphy's law for how things have been going on the road against good teams. Not enough hitting, errors , poor judgment and bad umpiring.
  2. It was his 2nd night in a row pitching. I was thinking I hope he isn't put in for a 2nd inning because of that. Outside of him grooving a low fastball on a 3-2 pitch he still looked strong that inning.
  3. Called him safe twice. Once on the initial play, then again on the appeal when they gave the catcher the ball and he stepped on the plate. Of course Yoan could've just slid across the plate and all this doesn't happen.
  4. As far as I can tell Umpire Scorecards has put up 9 of yesterdays 15 games so far. The White Sox/ Brewers game isn't included yet.
  5. Even getting mediocre ones is better than sticking with some of our bad ones. But I'm sure anyone can make the argument if you are going to do that you might as well hope guys like Heuer turn it around in the 2nd half.
  6. I said this back on Feb.24 in the 2021 Plan for Kopech Aand Crochet thread. "I'm a bit skeptical that the pen is a strength because some emerged during the short season and against weak competition. Kopech and Crochet are likely viewed as hedges against the other young relievers experiencing the highs and low of a longer season, stronger opponents and the very nature of the year to year travails of relief pitching in general. "
  7. A DP from our sinkerballer would be nice.
  8. Nice job Lucas . Take a seat and hope the BP and hitters do their job now.
  9. Is Vera there now ?
  10. Because in the scheme of things all they get is a minor league catcher who there was probably one thing they liked about him maybe 2. He has power and if his defense is good who knows what can happen but they got some years to find out. That's for the trade they just made. But he's a young body and can be used in numerous ways whereas a 41 yr. old pitcher is out the door and gone soon. TB does it this way to survive as a franchise without money. Most big leagues teams and their fans just think throwing money at a problem works. Now try suggesting around here that you trade Eloy. Most people would call you crazy even though he's injured all the time and is a shitty fielder. Now lets say Eloy comes back from injury , hits very well and is World Series MVP. TB would probably trade him at the height of what they could get for him . Now that's not the same as trading a 41 yr old pitcher for a minor leaguer but they aren't afraid of pulling the trigger on selling a guy like Blake Snell in the off season after reaching the World Series. They dump guys before they get expensive and are constantly keeping the farm system loaded because of it. Plus they take advantage of being a small market team on things a big market team like the Sox don't get like more draft money, more intl money, higher comp. picks. I don't know all the advantages or even if I got the ones I listed right. Big fan bases don't like to see their favorite players go but you see what happens to teams that rebuild and spend big money or hang onto players. Royals were in 2 straight World Series in 14, and 15 now they are rebuilding again. Cubs ran out of money. Only Houston is hanging on longer. But once the Sox window closes maybe its back to sucking like the Royals or the core gets too expensive to keep. If you want to keep contending and not be at the top of the salary lists you pretty much have to sell some of your stars when they are worth the most and trust that your scouting and player development is top notch.
  11. Unconventional is a better word. They do what they have to do always making sure to buy low on good prospects not too many seasons removed form good prospect status. They got 2 players for a 41 yr. old pitcher who they signed for 2.5M who was a FA next yr. Getting 2 nothings for 1 old nothing is how you should be doing it.
  12. Or Lopez or Adolfo which pretty much any team isn't going to want.
  13. 50 minutes and 33.6 miles away. Not too bad depending on the time of day. Probably drops the dog for road trips and lives nearby. St. Johns is supposed to be a very nice place.
  14. So your dogsitter is Kopech's dogsitter ?
  15. Just biding my time to see what happens with trades. It would be extra nice to win 2 of 3 in Milwaukee but I'm not expecting it unless the Sox pitching staff can hold the Brew Crew to 10 runs or less in 3 games.
  16. I know the list is subjective but are you seeing any pattern where guys like Kopech, Jimenez, Robert, and Moncada's values shrank due to injuries, Covid problems or in the case of Kopech, as you pointed out, missing a year and being unable to build value as a SP. After all, when value is concerned being on the field probably means more than anything along with consistency of performance when on the field and when you become a free agent. In other words, sometimes it's a matter of circumstances like Alvarez got hurt but it was in 2020 and anyone who played 2020 couldn't really build much value because of the 60 game season. 2020 seemed like it could've been a breakout year for Eloy but 60 was not enough to establish that and in 2021 his season will be comparable to 2020 with perhaps worst stats coming off an injury. That's 2 of his prime value years. So really all he has is his rookie year ,a bunch of injuries, and negative defensive value while having a year less control than Alvarez while Alvarez has 2x the amount of WAR. If he does stay healthy is not what has happened so far.
  17. There's so much going on with fielding whether it's the lights , the sky , the wind that I try to stay away from how OF's or infielders look in a small sample sizes generally. Even with hitting and pitching things aren't always as they appear. I was listening to a Willy Adames interview recently after being named NL player of the week. He's been on fire since he was traded. He talked about how he just didn't see the ball well at home in TB. The lighting or background just didn't sit right with him. I started thinking that would make me hesitate on getting pitching from TB if that was a complaint heard often from TB hitters or visiting players.
  18. I am retiring for the evening was probably said many times when people spoke gooder English.
  19. He can catch. He hasn't strictly DH'd in the minors. Terrible teams often take chances on helping someones defense. Semien got better, Narvaez got better. Good luck Yermin a lot of people are wishing that you pursue your dream and stay focused .
  20. I guess we will find out how important that comp pick is. They can trade him for more than the worth of a comp pick I'm imagining. Or if they don't want to give him the QO and risk him accepting it then just don't offer it and lose the comp pick.
  21. A lot of supposition in that extra content you posted.
