  1. No he mostly falls because the projection models aren't kind to him. He's a very unique player. High BABIP with low walk rate which these models don't expect him to maintain . But he keeps doing it.
  2. Robert 94, Moncada 90, Lynn 75.... to be continued. Have to figure the Sox have a chance for at least 4 more amongst Hendriks, Giolito, Abreu , Anderson, Eloy ,Keuchel
  3. I haven't seen one post where anyone is sad. Benintendi isn't a failed prospect . He's already accumulated a decent amount of WAR in his short career. But Boston never put him in RF so I would imagine he doesn't have the arm for it.
  4. 3 for 1 is a dangerous trade to do hoping AB finds his mojo again . If he doesn't Engel is actually more valuable then the current Benintendi is to the Sox and then there are 2 prospects that they get to find some upside with. Much easier for the Royals to do that trade where that team currently is. I can't really recall the Sox making a similar move during the rebuild but always hoped they'd make.
  5. Not a big surprise. 2020 was just an odd year with 2 1stbasemen winning MVP and over a full season they normally wouldn't expect those guys to keep up the WAR accumulation especially Abreu who also probably had his best fielding stats of his career also. They are just being projected to their mean seasons. Some of the other guys on the list had career years also. They stand out as outliers that again for a full season aren't likely to be replicated. Still Cruz is projected to have a higher WAR than Abreu playing DH at 40 years old. And Timmy is a nightmare for any projection model.
  6. Interesting discussion. There are those who believe in this team as we all should and there are those who point to depth and strength of competition as factors to say we were not as good as our record suggested last year. It's pretty easy to straddle the fence here and see both sides as having valid points. There is a lot of variance involved in young teams and it's very difficult to project them. We all want to believe that Moncada is 2019 Moncada , Abreu is still an MVP, Madrigal will still hit .300 and eliminate his mistakes, Keuchel and Lynn regression isn't as bad as predicted, Robert will be worth 6+ WAR, the young relievers are as good as we saw last year, Eloy and Timmy continue to be a monster hitters, Vaughn can hit as well as McCann did last year, Crochet can stay healthy , Katz is capable of miracles and LaRussa is a positive. I am very much looking forward to see how it all plays out. There are no "for sure" outcomes in my head. “Walt Whitman once said, ‘I see great things in baseball. It’s our game. The American game. It will repair our losses and be a blessing to us.’ You could look it up.” “I’m just happy to be here. Hope I can help the ball club. I know. Write it down. I just want to give it my best shot, and the good Lord willing, things will work out.”
  7. See. I told you that before Pecota did . They have the Cubs finishing with a better record than the Sox.
  8. Trevor Bauer addressed Mets fans on Sunday to apologize for the merchandise glitch on his website that led people to believe he was signing with the Mets shortly before he agreed to a deal with the Dodgers. "Mets fans, I owe you an explanation and apology," Bauer posted in a Twitter thread. "My intention was never to mislead your fan base, nor was it to troll you in any way." On Friday, a link for Mets merchandise went live on Bauer's Linktree page on Instagram, and a page for a Bauer-signed Mets hat giveaway went live on his website, TrevorBauer.com. Fans who signed up for the cap giveaway received an email saying "I can't wait to take the mound in New York!" The links and screenshots of the Bauer Mets cap and giveaway email spread quickly on social media, with speculation swirling that the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner and top free-agent starting pitcher was on the verge of signing with New York. Instead, Bauer announced just hours later that he was joining the Dodgers. Bauer attempted to clear the air in Sunday's Twitter thread, explaining that the merchandise pages and links were prepared for multiple teams in advance and that none were supposed to go live until Bauer had announced his decision. "It was an embarrassing and emotional moment for me," Bauer said in the thread. This seems to be why Nightengale probably concluded the Mets had signed him. https://www.mlb.com/news/trevor-bauer-apologizes-to-mets-fans
  9. Yikes this thread a ghost town . Hawks doing well against a tough schedule so far.
  10. And we all know those Captains didn't mind bending the Prime Directive once in a while ( prohibiting its members from interfering with the internal and natural development of alien civilizations.) I am the Captain ,I control this ship ! If you mutiny your lifetime job is over ! Starfleet Command doesn't exist in JR's universe.
  11. It's all good and I am a firm believer in this and often think it's my usual perspective. I think that anybody who spends the time to learn about anything always comes off as pretty moderate and boring because they tend to come to a balanced perspective. the more you learn, the more confusing things are so that the more, almost more conservative in the presentation of the facts one is.
  12. 100 % agree and although some do miss the point , I don't think most of us do. However you might not see this since you are one of 2 people to block me. I don't even remember why but i was never blocked by anyone in 15 years but 2 in the last year. Sure arguments get heated some time but I almost never call anyone names or say their opinion is dumb or stupid or words i don't like said to me. Do unto others and all that.
  13. So that makes you a Klingon, clinging to that hope and I'm usually right there with you but Captain Kirk/ Picard, aka JR , phasered me into non existence.
  14. You know as well as I do that no one of any significance is coming to the Sox. The roster is what it is now.
  15. Late April 2018 TJ surgery not 2019. He missed almost all of 2019 when he had a rehab start and had a capsule sprain. But his 2020 showed he was finally healthy. 11 starts 2.70 ERA and 1.163 WHIP and even better second half in 6 starts with a 1.37 ERA. I always like pitchers, who after injury, have a strong 2nd half. Rodon pitched 4 games 2 starts, 7.2 innings total, 8.22 ERA and 1.565 WHIP. There isn't a world in which Walker gets less than Rodon. According MLBTR Walker was the 23rd ranked FA this year. Guys like Rodon who were non tenders , injured and sucked are probably all lumped together at over 100. He's lucky the Sox gave him $3M.
  16. Yes I was just thinking of editing my post to say he could sign for 2yrs around $15M
  17. Walker is probably left because after last season he thinks he is worth $10M a year but with his peripherals teams are offering $5M. If he gets $5M I'm going to cry that the Sox didn't consider him. He can still bring the fastball at 94/95 , he's 28, he throws strikes and knows how to pitch.
  18. Amen. Half the people here, if they were young professional athletes who chose to reveal more about themselves would be thought of as douches too. Does everyone really have to act the same way and hide their inner self to please everyone ?
  19. Discuss anything you want. All I was saying is my opinion doesn't matter. I am also saying choosing to believe things because people say them in Twitter is something I don't like to do. How does anyone know for sure the Sox made a $10M offer to Pederson ? There's so much manipulation going on in that world. Why should I or anyone believe that crap ? Take it all with a grain of salt , discuss the hell out of it, but in the end I use my mind and my knowledge of baseball to come to conclusions before most of the discussions take place. I said Cruz isn't coming here early and I said Folty isn't coming here. But I discussed the hell out of how fun it would be to have Cruz and encouraged others to do so. I wanted that thread to catch up to another thread discussing another player. I'd have to look back early in the Cruz thread to see what I said. Edit: I just looked . On Jan. 21 I encouraged everyone to make the Cruz thread as long as the Burnes thread , which it eventually surpassed. AT the time it was around 30 pages behind it. I've been around here a long time. I just don't go running to Twitterers and insiders begging them for info because if I don't care about anything they say except for its entertainment value. I'm too old to be acting like a giddy school girl.
  20. But but we forced MN. to up their offer to Cruz . Sox win ! ( this is sarcasm)
