  1. Rather have the RH Gomes. The guy is a professional catcher and still a decent hitter and has a 115 OPS+. He calls a good game and frames decently. Of the 3 Sox coming back from injury Grandal is coming back last and the knee is crucial to catching. The last thing I want to see is Collins catching our pitchers in the playoffs. He may be the worst framer in baseball and isn't the best at blocking pitches . While the Sox can make due in RF with good defense and acceptable hitting they cannot under any circumstances allow Collins to get significant playing time in the playoffs should Grandal need a lot of rest should his knee bother him after his return.
  2. I checked Ramos is a decent framer at least from his stats this year. But the hitting is putrid. If you are right now looking at the worst position currently on the team it's catcher by far.
  3. But Gomes is still productive and an upgrade on Collins. I'm not looking for an uprade over Zavala. I want a backup who calls a good game and can actually catch and frame better. Ramos is a -0.2 fWar while Gomes is a 1.0 .
  4. I am assuming they did anticipate it and are working to fill any remaining depth problems. Plenty of names still available.
  5. It's completely plausible that they are looking to do more. Certain posters has said they are looking at something big. I never actually believed it but it can happen. Also other minor moves can also happen. @Backwash07 had a comment about Yan Gomes that didn't get much attention but with Zalava and Collins the catching is terrible now and could use an upgrade. Gomes hits decently and is pretty good defensively and there shouldn't be much competition for him. Grandal is injured and who knows how he is going to hold up once he returns. Gomes would be an ideal backup. Who really wants to see Collins (-3 fWAR) getting significant time in the playoffs ?
  6. You asked a question. I answered it . It's their job to know what's going on. If they don't know ,they aren't doing their job.
  7. They'd be the stupidest FO around if they didn't expect all the good impending FA's or guys with 2 years left to be moved.
  8. I haven't really considered catcher among our more pressing needs but this is a good idea. Of course he just was reinstated after an IL stint for an oblique injury so there's the build in meds excuse right there. However he is considered a very good defensive catcher. He's RH and hits LHP better than RHP pitching but definitely an upgrade on Collins (-3 fWAR) who you wouldn't want to see in a playoff game catching our starters or relievers the rest of the season for that matter. Whatever helps our pitchers the most should matter a lot. There probably won't be a lot of competition for him. I only see the A's and Jays listed in MLBTraderumors.
  9. Kimbrel would qualify as an impact or difference making player just as Scherzer, Gallo, Marte and various others that have been traded or will be traded today.
  10. I think any trades ahead of the deadline trades should be counted because the Blue Jays have actually got 3 relief pitchers and Adames drastically changed the Brewers. We 1st hand got a taste of Tellez and Freyereisen kicked our asses too. Just because some teams had the guts to improve their teams a bit earlier doesn't mean they weren't trying to improve their clubs . If you are talking about contenders improving themselves through trades then all trades during the season should count because the deadline is just a date to give teams a time after which there will be no more trades. If the Sox had got Escobar a month ago that only means there is 1 less trade to make at the deadline but it still counts as much as a deadline trade does.
  11. The games Mercedes hit a HR was a make up game. He's playing in the regularly scheduled game.
  12. His 8th in about 85 AB's. Too bad he lost it for a while and hurt himself in the process. I don't know what his support group around him told him. Could be a bunch of hangers on telling him stupid stuff but anyone with any real knowledge should've been there to try to explain to him that acting emotionally or erratically will only hurt him and destroy any chance of getting back into the game at the MLB level.
  13. I think you are forgetting some trades. Blue Jays got Adam Cimber and Corey Dickerson. Plus you are leaving out the earlier trades were the Brewers got Adames and Trevor Richards then traded Richards to the Blue Jays for Rowdy Tellez . The Rays got J.P. Freyereisen and Drew Rasmussen back from the Brewers.
  14. There may be another move but it won't be earth shattering. When we take inventory of what the other contenders did we will fall far short. About the only impact guy I hold out some hope for is Kimbrel but I'm guessing another contender will value his services far more.
  15. I will 100% agree with this if very little happens before the deadline tomorrow. But the sentiment seems to always have been here that it wasn't necessary to make any strong moves or give Rodon a break and that the future means more than this year. I have been somewhat scathing arguing that the words put forth by Hahn and the previous actions of Reindorf always promises a better tomorrow while ignoring the present and for some unknown reason many here trust them.
  16. Ha ! Damn I had a link and everything waiting for you. You get it anyway . https://www.soxmachine.com/2019/11/01/white-sox-continue-shedding-international-money-while-rebuilding-for-some-reason/
  17. I wouldn't say prior to 2018. I can't even say after 2018. 2018 they did it and also in 2019 they traded away International money.
  18. The Sox fuck themselves over.
  19. Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears; I come to bury Cesar, not to praise him."
  20. They finally got one of the guys I mentioned. Of course I mentioned every Cub reliever in that one post.
  21. They seem to like guys with control over guys with overwhelming stuff if you are getting a pitcher who can be taught other things who might have some upside with the FB and secondary pitches. Plus outside of that it wouldn't take a genius to think that if you had to choose among some of our guys like Stiever and Lambert who the Sox might not have given up that Pilkington was having a good year and that seems to be a deciding factor in the prospects that are getting traded now. Of course I know you are just asking me this so you can shoot me down . Let me then ask you this ? Why is it such a big secret for you to say who the Sox were targeting in a Samardzija trade. It happened 6 years ago. What's the big deal there ?
  22. Considering it took Semien to get Samardzija you would think so but I guess its a mystery that requires a DM for anyone to know even though it was 6 years ago. Had to be to a contender so if we are looking at the 2015 standings , Cardinals, Pirates , Cubs, Mets, Dodgers, Rangers, Astro's, Blue Jays, Yankees . Not counting the Royals . Urias of the Dodgers probably ranked too high . Same for Syndergaard, Bryant, Correa, Corey Seager, . Gallo , Pederson, Glasnow, Taillon, Judge, Marco Gonzales, Josh Bell, Aaron Nola. Of course lots of guys from the bottom 50 of the top 100 who never turned out very well.
  23. I'm just informing anyone looking at the rankings that they don't mean much now. It's not a commentary on the trade. When I saw the trade going down before I knew who it was Cleveland was getting . I figured it was a minor league starting pitcher and if I had given it much thought before I actually saw Pilkington's name I probably would have guessed that it was him just based on this seasons results as the kind of pitcher Cleveland likes.
  24. Yea but even the 2021 preseason lists are very old considering there were still guys like Vaughn , Kopech and Crochet on it and 2020 season didn't even happen. We see a lot of the prospects given up in trades are having good seasons which seems to be outweighing rankings now.
