  1. Sheets ,Cease, Reylo, Eloy,Kopech Hendricks. I like it .
  2. Well that sucks. The good thing about Scherzer is that this years salary is deferred until 2028. If Rodon's arm is about to go topsy-turvy who better to replace him than Scherzer ? That last outing by Rodon was a bit concerning. Not sure if he is trying to preserve his arm on his own by throwing in the low 90's in the 1st 4 innings or if it's a sign that he's going through a dead arm period or something even more concerning. It's a long shot without thinking Scherzer prefers the west coast anyway.
  3. Wondering what it would take to grab Scherzer. MLBtraderumors says the whole $11.8M left on his 2021 salary is all deferred until 2028 . That sounds like a Jerry type contract. I'm not sure how much that helps unless Rodon's innings pitched has started to effect him. Scherzer could take his place in the rotation and Rodon could be moved to the pen. You take on the whole salary and maybe the Sox have the pieces. It all depends on if the Nats would insist on 1 really great prospect that we are lacking or a piece on the 26 the Sox wouldn't want to trade. Scherzer could be hard to trade because of the full no trade protection because of his 10 and 5 status. I think it's been stated he'd be willing to waive it but also use it to pick the most optimum place to be traded to. Where that might be is anyone guess. Lots of obstacles to hurdle but still fascinating.
  4. Um he's going to get less time as soon as the Sox trade for a 2nd baseman and he'll also get less time in the OF when Robert gets back. He also won't get hardly any time at 3rd.
  5. Um Leury looked sharp at 3rd when he's played there. That's why the Sox have him.
  6. Don't forget Lynn being resigned. But yea that would not be good.
  7. That's a tough one to answer since it's solely dependent on who the Sox get. Basically anyone in our Top 40 or 50 guys.
  8. And despite the recent cold spell he's still .384 OBP and .932 OPS against RHP in limited AB's. You might have thought with just 99 PA's against RHP the cold spell might've hurt his numbers more but he's still well above average.
  9. We are used to seeing Hamilton Robert and Engel in CF. Not many can live up to that standard . He's now basically a corner OF who gets put in CF mainly because of his bat stil above average speed though not what it used to be. He gets blamed for a lot of balls he doesn't catch around here that Statcast or other defensive metrics might not grade him as poorly on. You know how it goes when a guy nobody wanted comes in and looks less than perfect. All their faults get magnified. When Robert is back Goodwin won't be seeing too much CF any more since he will be the 4th best CF on the team defensively then. Even though he's been hitting RHP very well it will be very hard to decide who winds up getting cut among the OF's between Goodwin, Lamb and Hamilton. Engel and Leury should still be here . It's also highly unlikely any of Goodwin, Lamb or Hamilton get traded since they are all guys any teams can pick up after being DFA'd. It just might come down to which of those guys is willing to play in the minors or go on a phantom injury list.
  10. Zack Collins for Jonah Heim ( Switch hitter good framing stats) of the Rangers. Worse hitting and OBP . 70 OPS+ to Collins 98. Jose Trevino another good framer ( this year) on the Rangers was just activated and they DFA'd John Hicks who was hitting well in a SSS but must be a terrible catcher . Last time I could find framing stats on Hicks it was 28 (2019)while Collins is at a 0. Higher is better but 28 isn't great either.
  11. Referring to Kelenic ?
  12. No it's not just you. Not many really want to see Eloy out there in LF. Vaughn has been very solid in the field and on fire at the plate. He's definitely a better fielder than Eloy based on his steadiness there and over the past month he is also the best hitter on the team easily.
  13. Not blaming anyone. I am saying he was handled the way most MLB teams would have handled him. He might have been sent back to the minors by a lot of teams, especially teams in contention. He was kept on the 26 only for 2 reasons, his vast potential and injuries. I'm thrilled that he is now hitting RHP so well now. The fact that you cannot comprehend substitutes need to play in order to make future decisions about your team is mind boggling. It's also mind boggling that you cannot comprehend that the best prospects even those with with vast potential can do poorly when first called up and might have to be sat every so often and far less talented players may get playing time ahead of them. It only happens every year many times in the long history of baseball.
  14. Yep, I highly doubt the concerns about his health that I see being bandied about have much to do with why the Sox haven't acquired him.
  15. Scouting will have more to do with trades than prospect rankings . I don't follow a lot of teams prospect rankings but not very many have been updated since earlier this year. Remember there was no 2020 season so in Feb it was a crapshoot ranking prospects. Now that there has been a 1/2 season of minor league ball perhaps performance is a little bit ahead of the toolboxes some of these prospects carry . Based on performance the Sox don't have a lot of their youngsters doing so well. The team everyone wanted to watch in the off season was Kannapolis and maybe Winston Salem. Both have been pretty bad . Only Birmingham is doing ok. But if you look at Birmingham's lineup yesterday all you see is a bunch of 24-27 yr. olds. If you include the pitchers only Pilkington is under 24 . He's 23.
  16. Don't think it's so cut and dried. Kopech batted because they wanted him to pitch the 8th but with a short leash. If he got the 1st guy he'd pitch to the 2nd guy.. Instead he walks the lead off hitter and he's out of there. It's not like Larussa left him in to walk Adames like you make it sound. He left him in to get outs and since he didn't ,he rightfully took him out.
  17. It's preferring Merrifield and giving up Madrigal that doesn't make sense.
  18. How big of a moron can you be ? LaRussa's MO all season has been to use subs and play matchups. It wasn't doing Vaughn any good to play him so much early in the season just learning a new position and facing the best pitchers in the world. It was a huge step up for him. God forbid he sit a few games with 145 games left in the season to have a little time to slow things down and observe while he was struggling. Nick Williams time didn't work out. Not a big deal . That's how teams learn what they have . In the meantime other scrubs like Goodwin, Hamilton, and Lamb stepped up when people were whining about them just as much as Williams. Because you play them some exceed expectations and some don't. The fact that many of them succeeded is why the Sox are where they are now. You can never convince me that a scrub shouldn't be playing ever. If you are on the 26 man roster you play and someone has to sit. Maybe if Vaughn had played every day he starts hitting RHP earlier or playing him against only certain types of RHP helped him. No one can say for sure. I think the Sox handled him the right way so when you say consider the source I guess you mean consider the whole Sox brain trust because they handled him exactly the way most major league teams probably would have handled a struggling young player making such a huge leap. Maybe Vaughn himself will some day shed some light on if he thought he was handled the right way, but for you to think it was the wrong way is very presumptuous. At least I can say it I liked how it was handled but leave open the possibility that playing every day could have worked better or turned out worse.
  19. When everybody was saying Eloy should only DH , I was saying that he will be playing LF because you cannot just DH him. So he will be getting OF time . All we can do is hope discretion can be the better part of valor. No one, including himself, want's to be on the sidelines more than he is in the lineup. Being on the field in any capacity is more valuable to the team and himself than being an invalid.
  20. Will be very nice to see Eloy again.
  21. While it's true that Escobar's overall numbers are better against against LHP, here's something to consider. He has exactly 3X the number of AB's against RHP but his extra base hits ( doubles, triples HR's) are also almost exactly 3X higher as are his walks. So while his batting average , OBP and slugging are all worse his BABIP is higher against RHP (.274) than LHP (.250). He also K's a lot more against RHP. What he loses in HR power against RHP he makes up for it with more doubles and triples. Also he has 15 HR's against RHP which easily would lead the Sox by a large margin (Grandal and Abreu 10 each ) .
  22. Both will be given if not the full 20 days pretty damn close to it. The injury is the issue with Robert , not whether he played at all this year. He had a serious injury and just walking again took time. Now he has to do everything expected of a MLB player with great speed while slowly seeing how that hip responds.
  23. Here you go . It's not just the Brewers series . The Sox play terrible against playoff caliber teams on the road and have for a while So yes we need Eloy , Robert and Grandal, yes we need some BP help and yes another power bat from the left side would help at 2nd base. Those are the most obvious and cheapest options available. A good team expected to make a long run in the playoffs has to play better against good teams on the road. I can live without having the home field advantage if everyone comes back from injury and deadline help enables the road record against good teams to improve in the 2nd half. Then ,if they can also nab HFA, I'd feel very confident in this team's chances to win the pennant and give the NL team a good World Series.
  24. LOL That was just my explanation for what happened without blaming Moncada. I think if we put ourselves in the same situation, since we all know so much, we probably react the same as Moncada ( if we had accidently missed home and wasn't really sure if we did). I never said the Sox were a good team on the road. In fact I said the opposite , that they play like crap on the road against good teams. It's why I want reinforcements at the trade deadline. I just also threw in that it doesn't help to screw up and for the most part they made their own Murphy's Law luck.
  25. I've been talking about home field advantage and not being able to beat good teams for weeks and probably was one of the 1st here to say the Sox needed 2 relievers when all I kept seeing was 1 reliever and still do and somehow all I hear is appreciate the team is in 1st place and that I'm unhappy and shouldn't want the Sox to go all in. Also the need for more power but I still see people clamoring for Frazier because a good contact hitter is needed somehow for 2 years. I know I'm offending a lot of people telling them their ideas suck but yea if I have to worry about 3 hitters combining a walk and 2 singles and a 4th hitter not hitting into a DP then yea I'll take 1 swing of the bat for multiple runs or a single run any time. Look at today. Leury made contact . A blooper , a dribbler ,a bad throw by the Brewers and it should've been 2 runs scored. Instead of the ball rolling away it hits the ump and our runner misses home plate.
