Also one more thing for this comment .If you use 30 teams and only 4 starters per team that's 120 starters. The fact that so many of those 120 didnt even qualify for that stat means they got what they wanted. 63 out of 120 1-4 starters couldn't even qualify ? Seems pretty odd or just reinforces the fact there were very few innings eaters they could've got for just a year. Rightly or wrongly that's the way they wanted to go.

It's not like I fully endorsed the guy. I just recognized the reason the got him Hahn said as much. He said he wanted a guy to eat innings. I said eh they could do worse for a year. I mean hell I preferred they sign a good FA pitcher and Miley or Pomeranz. But they signed Nova and that's the kind of guy they wanted. They didn't want to sign injured pitchers or a high priced FA. They got what they wanted not what I wanted.

I have argued in the past I don't like NL pitchers and hitters so I was hoping for the best and I still am hoping he has some positive regression. Obviously doesn't look good now but there's really been nothing in the last 3 years to indicate he'd be this bad. Basically all he was doing was replacing SHields and I did expect a Shields like year without the all walks. I'm not always right but I'm not wrong yet until we see how the rest of his year goes. If he lasts a whole year

A 4-5 ERA for a 4th starter is pretty average in the AL. Remember they wanted a healthy guy to throw strikes and eat innings . Weren't a whole of those guys out there for a year. There were plenty of injured pitchers from last year they could've signed for less but then you're starting the season with 2 guys or even 3 guys say if you signed Pomeranz and Miley who were injured and Rodon and a guy who was the worst starter in baseball last year in Giolito. That leaves you Lopez Banuelos Fulmer Covey to cover for 2/3 starters coming off injuries. Not exactly a lot of depth and also an injury prone staff.. It's still a rebuild year when all is said and done
