  1. Walk offs are cool. I like the new side slingin' Shields. Way to battle team !
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 01:27 PM) The eye test tells me he is quite good. I am shocked the defensive metrics don't agree. Why would you be shocked ? Many of these metrics are not an exact science especially the defensive metrics. I have quit mentioning (except for now) how I feel about framing pitches but I almost cringe every time I see people talking about them as if its some great matter of concern. I have written about that til I'm blue in the fingers but no ones minds will be changed including mine. So I have chosen the "why argue about it" stance until framing as a big concern ( maybe a minor concern) fades away into the baseball obscure stats dustbin.
  3. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 01:05 PM) I think when he threw those first couple of curves 2 feet in front of the plate, he decided it wasn't happening. Unfortunate but maybe he was just too jacked up Maybe. But we have to remember they get warmup pitches before the inning starts so that seems like a good time to try to get the feel for it. Again I will plead ignorance because maybe he did do that . I have no idea how they approach warmup pitches before the start of an inning. But again I was impressed . He's supposed to have a great curve and good changeup. I still think he can be a TOR starter with fastball (2 and 4 seam), curve and changeup. He's not even close to a finished product. Even for those worried about his FB speed. (avg 93.2 for the game) commanding it is more important. Once he gets enough reps with all three pitches and can consistently repeat his mechanics he will be very good. But no one should expect that soon.
  4. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 11:32 AM) Good stuff. Obvious improvement from early in the year where he could go 3-4 innings with only 1-2 swinging strikes. But he really needs to get offspeed stuff going or change speeds a lot more with the fastball. I have no idea what the game plan was against the Twins. He threw very few curves when it seemed like he should throw more to see if he could get a feel for it. Could be the game plan was to use the fastball quite a bit. stay ahead of the hitters and keep walk totals down. All three HR's came on fastballs. I think it was a very impressive start. game-wise and career-wise. But when you are used to Holmberg, Holland, Shields and Pelfrey just about anyone who goes 6 innings seems impressive. Giolito became the first White Sox pitcher to not walk a batter and go six or more innings in his team debut since Orlando Hernandez on April 8, 2005 against the Twins per whitesox.com
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 20, 2017 -> 05:11 PM) Just remembered the Sox host the Giants in September. Start Volstad, Danish, and Beck. Scot Snodgress
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 05:50 PM) Good lord. Why did so many people want a rebuild if they can't handle a few months of bad play from a rookie? I think it's fair to criticize if it's fair to praise him. Criticism for poor play even from a rookie in a rebuild is going to happen. Best you can do is make a folder and store those posts in it and recall them later when it turns out you are right or to destroy if you are wrong. I get the feeling their is at least 1 poster who does this who shall not be named.
  7. Carson Fulmer makes his MLB starting debut as the 26th roster guy and will return to the minors after the game. Sox will be looking for the sweep after winning game 1 7-6 for their 2nd win in a row. Dillon Gee makes the start for the Twins .
  8. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 04:37 PM) Let's just hope that Boston scout wasn't right about Moncada being a bit of a head case at the plate. Hmm never heard that before. I do wonder why he wears the face protector. Don't see many wearing that. I mean I guess you can see good with it on and does protect your face but hard to describe how I feel about it. Seems logical but out of place.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) BUG MUSIC?! http://www.fakebands.com/wiki/images/d/de/...Flintstones.png Look's like a little Flintstones parody of the Beatles.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 02:36 PM) Good job Avi Yeah , yeah , yeah ! (Beatles Nite tribute )
  11. Smith's swing reminds me of Mike Piazza . Never or rarely lunges at outside pitches. Just stands there and swings . If he is late or the pitch is outside it goes to RF . He just hits the ball where its pitched. Obviously not the same juiced up power but the swing path and plane is very similar .
  12. QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 09:23 AM) Cool little nugget of Sox history. Thanks for that. Pretty big 24 hours of pitching going on here. Rodon and Fulmer tonight, Kopech making his AAA debut tonight as well. Giolito tomorrow for the Sox, and I believe Alec Hansen also pitches tomorrow for the Dash. He has been absolutely stellar. Not expecting a lot out of Fulmer tonight as he has largely underwhelmed in AAA this year, but he might surprise. Still obviously a lot of growing and developing to do. Like many , I see him as a future reliever. You're welcome . Also the solar eclipse is tonight. Could be a wild night on the south side.
  13. QUOTE (yesterday333 @ Aug 21, 2017 -> 08:19 AM) As an obsessed Beatles fan, and obviously a chisox fan, Id love to see one of these hats and would like to know if there was a way to get one... I found this link on the Sox Facebook page about the promotion. It is pretty limited . Only 1000 caps so it may be sold out already but go to the link and follow the instructions. You can only pick up the cap at the game with a voucher http://m.mlb.com/whitesox/tickets/special-events/beatles If it is sold out or you aren't able to attend then I would look on ebay as soon as possible , even tonight or early tomorrow, if you are interested in paying for one on the secondary market.
  14. Where's the Debbie Downer pic when you need it. Let us Sox fans have our fun and dream in a dismal yet necessary season. Right now Nicky is a legend on twitter http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...ts-are-glorious With the HR's including the inside the parker, the on base streak (White Sox rookie record) and the 3 bunt hits against the shift it's all just wonderful to behold. Throw in his good looks, great disposition and how long it's been since the Sox had a lefty masher and you can understand the giddiness about him. A HR hitter who also bunts for hits ? It's crazy and the attention he is getting is well deserved.
  15. On August 20th, 1965 The Beatles played 2 shows at old Comiskey Park and today the White Sox play 2 games . That makes this the 52nd + 1 day Anniversary of that day . I think there's a giveaway of a Beatles/White Sox cap tonight although I don't see it listed on the promotions page @whitesox.com but have seen it advertised during Sox games. Here is an article of that musically historical day w/ video http://www.avclub.com/article/fifty-years-...hows-chi-224181 The article states the Beatles opened with a cover of the Isley Brothers Twist and Shout . The Isley's made it a hit but it was originally recorded by the Top Notes . However, The Beatles version was almost exactly like the Isley's version . Twist and Shout (Beatles version) was also used in the classic downtown Chicago parade scene in Ferris Bueller's Day Off Carlos Rodon pitches game 1 and Carson Fulmer the 2nd game . Rodon has a 2.12 ERA over his last 4 starts w/ 28 K's and 6 BB's in 28 2/3 innings. It will be Fulmer's season debut. I assume if the Sox lose game 1 that I am still responsible for the game 2 thread and will be making a separate thread for that game unless someone informs me otherwise.
  16. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 20, 2017 -> 07:17 PM) I think he's had three since the All Star break but he's also missed a ton of games to. Actually 2 , both in the same game since 6/22 .
  17. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 20, 2017 -> 03:54 PM) I see Avi still hittin now at .314. It's odd to see them win a game 3-2. The way the lineup is producing it doesn't have that stink of a rebuild. The pen has no shortage of mental midgets. Avi is the King of Infield hits. Hasn't been killing the ball . Can't remember his last HR but I'd venture to say he has like 1 in the last close to 2 months.
  18. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 19, 2017 -> 05:43 AM) Scherzer to DL. Gonzalez would fill in nicely for him. Maybe Robles +? Funny
  19. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 20, 2017 -> 02:32 PM) Migo last 3 starts vs 3 top 5 offenses: 20 IP, 2-0, 0.90 ERA, 1.10 WHIP Someone trade for this man. So Big Game Miguel. Not quite the same ring to it as Big Game James but if you have a twitter it needs to be spread to all contending teams.
  20. 3rd bunt for a hit against the shift today. Not only a good bunter but a very heady ball player.
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 20, 2017 -> 12:26 PM) I'll jinx him bad I'm sure, but why wouldn't a contending team want Gonzalez? He's no world beater every time, but you get innings and a lot of good innings. You didn't.
  22. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Aug 19, 2017 -> 05:57 AM) He really stood out in spring training where I saw him live. What was his hit tool grade coming out of minors? What was Moncadas? He did and the one thing that impressed me most in ST was he hit lefties for HR's also just like he did the other day. I realize other players need AB's and AB's against lefties will in all likelihood lower his batting average but I'd really to make sure he doesn't end up a guy only used against righties.
  23. Miggy Gonzales opposes A.J. Griffin. Keep hitting good . That is all.
  24. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 19, 2017 -> 11:18 AM) That is pretty much the lineup the Sox have been using since the trade deadline and they are last in the AL, averaging 4 runs per game. So if all those players put up offensive numbers like they have been it will be pretty much the same as this season. We need a major improvement from Moncada, Avi needs another career year, Abreu can't slip and everyone else needs to improve a little except maybe Delmonico whom in fairness may be playing over his head. I think next year is another bad year where we get a good draft pick and hopefully see Moncada bust out and Anderson raise his average 20 points. Avi has been in and out of the lineup since the AS break. Davidson 's been out the last 2 weeks. Not sure he and Delmonico has ever been in the same lineup together. The thing about rebuilds when you say a guy like Davidson or Leury are playing over their heads, it's just your guess or opinion based on their past. What if they aren't ? Also someone else could step up Cordell who we have yet to see play or Liriano or Willy Garcia. Moncada, as you said, also needs to start fulfilling some of his potential or the few posts we have seen so far about his bat will grow into an outcry.
